First McDonald's: Now the World: Obama's Plan to Fight Obesity - 07/27/11 11:29 AM
In her continuing struggle to fight obesity the First Lady's victory over McDonald's (The victory was getting McDonald's to include apple slices in Happy Meal orders.) has emboldened her.
The federal government (read: Mrs. Obama) has realized that the government cannot force the children to actually eat these apples or to even eat sensibly. (Just look at her meals!)  ASIDE: She tried to establish the Federal Reallocation of caloric Intake Enforcement Authority (FRcIED) which would have assigned a Federal Food Agent (FFA) to every McDonald's to make sure the apple slices were eaten (and what would you do about the … (14 comments)

Dolphins - 07/21/11 01:33 PM
Dolphins at Florida aquarium.Based on his expression you would think the dolphin is sitting on his head!
I believe he was just squinting from the sun, but it looks funny. We even got to swim with the dolphins. Okay, sit in the water while the dolphins swam past us. Almost looks like the dolphin is watching us.

Return of the Redneck Slip n Slide - 07/19/11 05:13 PM
Since we were on day 18 of 100+ heat (we have now made it 21 straight days and many more to come), the children demanded that the Redneck Slip 'n Slide be reopened.
Turn out was smaller than previous years. I think 105 to 110 degrees and 50-80% humidity even stops the kids from playing in the water. I didn't slide this time, but I was so wet from sweating I looked like I did.
Going a little slow

Jay's Tuesday Free Enterprise Quote - 07/19/11 11:30 AM

I didn't see this in the Silent Majority section, so I brought it over.
My sarcastic take:
No the constitution is a living document and should change at the whim of the politicians and if the politicians can't pull the wool...er...I mean convince the American sheep...er...people of the benefits of having less control of their own lives and money then we should appoint activist judges to interpret the constitution how we want it interpreted!  END SARCASM (Just in case it wasn't obvious enough)
Some how I believe this is actually have the current administration views us, especially those of us … (0 comments)

How to Make a Pot Roast: Don't Forget to Ask Questions - 07/15/11 10:16 AM
My mother always cut both ends off the pot roast before cooking. My mother was doing this, because she had seen her mother and grandmother doing it.

One day my mother asked her mother: "Why do you cut both ends off the pot roast before cooking it?"

Her mother replied: "That is the way my mother always did it."

So, my mother asked her grandmother: "Why do you cut both ends off the pot roast before cooking it?"

Her grandmother looked at her a little funny and replied: "Daughter, I cut both ends off the pot … (11 comments)

I've lived too long - 07/14/11 04:02 PM

Okay, this is really cool. Makes me think of the Replicators from Stargate SG-1or any of the sci fi novels that talk about going to a machine selecting the tool and the tool being extruded and ready to go.
I would guess that the orignial manufacturer of the wrench might frown upon it being scanned and reproduced. So, did they violate a patent when they made that wrench?

No Children Where Hurt in the Making of These Photos

But these weren't:

Beer Theories - 07/12/11 04:48 PM

If this doesn't make you feel better about having a beer (or several) then nothing will! Besides, you should at least get a smile or a laugh out of it!

All things in moderation is what I say. The problem is that each persons definition of moderate can very greatly!
Funnies start now:
Sometimes when I reflect on all the beer I drink, I feel ashamed.  Then I look into the glass and think about the workers in the brewery and all of their hopes and dreams.  If I didn't drink this beer, they might be out of work … (8 comments)

Four Ways To Spark Inspiration In Yourself - 07/12/11 02:37 PM

We all need a little inspiration in our lives.
The finding of solitude/taking a break is what works best for me. It is the something I seldom find time to do. THere is always one more thing to be done, completed, fixed, found or modified.
This leads into Set the Environment: quiet, relaxed, little to no background noise (like I said solitude)
Have you found what works for you?

Redneck Slip-n-Slide or Redneck Water Park - 07/12/11 12:48 PM

This works quite well on flat to gentle sloping ground for the big kids. The little guys need a hill to get going. The younger kids run and plop down and lose most of their forward momentum.

Honor those that have Served - 07/11/11 06:00 PM
Once a Marine always a Marine.
I am proud of our service men and women and grateful for all they have done and sacrificed for our country.
Click on the link below to see the video. It is only 3 or 4 minutes long and well worth your time to watch.

Trimming Trees is not for me....Anymore.....PART 2 - 07/11/11 01:23 PM
If you are interested in the first part of this, unfortunately, true story just click the link below.
Trimming Trees is not for me anymore Part 1

Continuing the story:
I am now in the emergency room at Norman Regional Hospital and after a round of x-rays they have determined that I have several broken ribs and a partially collapsed lung. When you have a collapsed lung you do NOT get pain medication.

The Doctor was waiting to see if my lung would re-inflate on its own. The entire wait was about 6 hours.

So, we are "killing" … (5 comments)

11 Days 100+ Degree Tempuratures...Wishing for this Right Now - 07/11/11 11:07 AM

Catching a Little Air

Ramp it Up!

Here's wishing for some cooler weather around here. Eleven straight days of 100+ temperatures and 20 days counting June! The record for July is 24 days over 100 degrees. The weatherman is saying we are looking at another 5-10 days before we get a break, so.......yuck!
We haven't had rain in quite a while either. Any moisture would be welcome.

Baking Cakes to Relax - 07/08/11 06:07 PM

A"simple" request. Half a basketball. The letters and lines are all hand cut fondant. I like the taste of it, so I use it when I can. Started using a marsh mellow fondant which is easier to work with and the rest of the family likes to eat.

What Should I Look For in a Home? - 07/08/11 01:14 PM

These are some good suggestions to look at when buying a home---whether a first time buyer or repeat buyer.
I would add that you need to watch out for the "OOOHHH, PRETTY!" syndrome. (The original blogger lightly mentioned this at the end of his post.) It is very easy to walk into home, especially new construction, and get caught up in the new carpet, fresh paint, no scratches or dings in woodwork or flooring, shiny tile and perfect grout joints.
Additional Questions to ask or look at:
1: Attic insulation (and new construction ask about wall insulation too)
2: Signs … (2 comments)

The news of my death has been greatly exaggerated! - 07/07/11 11:27 AM
I really like the way he tied the movie into his post. I work in a fairly rural area with 5 small towns within 5 miles and several more within 15 miles. One of those within 15 miles is Norman, OK (where Oklahoma University is located). The Norman market is stronger and gets $10-15/sf more, while Purcell gets $5-$10 more than surrounding towns.
The point? We have all heard "real estate is lcation, location, location", but real estate TRENDS are local, local, local.

Kid's Self portrait - 07/06/11 02:21 PM

He won't smile for us, but does when he takes his own picture. I have never seen a kid that can change his expression or hide as fast as this one when the camera gets pointed his way. (He comes buy it naturally, his mother won't let me take pictures of her either.)

July 4th, Baseball game and fireworks - 07/05/11 10:35 AM

Hot dogs, no Apple Pie and Baseball!
It was HOT and HUMID! We got just enough rain to make the humidity around 100%. It was just like being in a sauna. We had nine people at the game, so we got our group announced and everyone got a free Redhawks hat. Redhawks won 3-2.
We had a good time eating junk food watching the game. We had a gloves ready, but there wasn't a foul ball within 75' of us.

There was a fireworks display after the game to celebrate the 4th. I tried to take some pictures, but … (4 comments)
