Thoughts for Today - 01/31/08 11:44 PM
In keeping with my new attempt to strengthen my attitude I have spent some time looking at motivational quotes. I came across this one from Henry David Thoreau:"Go confidently in the direction of your dreams. Live the life you've imagined." This is a good one for me, it tells me that I need to plan and to work to making the dream (plan) come true. In this business if you don't have a dream and work confidently towards it, you will never accomplish them. I am not saying that dreams need to be unrealistic, yet they do have a place in (8 comments)
Fireplaces - 01/31/08 06:42 AM
There is something warm and inviting about a wood burning fireplace or wood stove, but as winter continues to grasp much of the country it it's icy grip, please be careful. Here in the Cedar City area chimney fires are way down this year but they still happen. Please remember to clean your fireplace and wood stove as often as it is recommended. This is advice to to tell your sellers also. No one wants to buy a house that has been on fire. In our state it is something that by law has to be disclosed if there is prior (3 comments)
Thought For Wednesday.............. - 01/31/08 12:27 AM
I got thinking that it has been several weeks since I wrote a thought blog, so here goes. Todays thought comes from Will Rogers, it says: "Even if you are on the right track, you'll get run over if you just sit there!" This is a great quote for me, I tend to let myself become lazy and need to be reminded that I need to get out and take some action. Several years ago I worked in a truck shop with a mechanic that used to end breaks by saying, "better go and do something, even if it's wrong." I (7 comments)
Self Esteem - 01/31/08 12:08 AM
I learned or remembered an important lesson this past week. That lesson is never let anyone dictate how you think of yourself, or better said, never let anyone set your level of self esteem. It is something that I should have known, but let myself get taken in again. I let a co worker spout off his opinion about me (without fully considering the source), and I let that incident affect my self esteem for over a week. It was only after talking to Darcy, whose opinion I respect and know that when she lets me have it, I need to (16 comments)
Market Conditions in Cedar City - 01/29/08 11:43 PM
Hello again, well we have almost gotten dug out from the latest storm to hit here. Nice to have the moisture could have done without the wind, but it does mean great snow for winter recreation! We are supposed to have some more later tonight, with smaller totals as storms that are smaller come through. That usually means that when the weathermen say this, we get dumped on! Like I mentioned earlier, we could always use the moisture, anyway back to Real Estate. The market is doing well, we have had some great starter homes come on the market in the (0 comments)
Virtual Tours and Safety - 01/26/08 11:13 PM
I have talked to several Realtors and read a few blogs about their concerns for the the homeowners protection doing a Virtual Tour. I am saddened by the need for these concerns, it speaks poorly of our society. I am also saddened because I believe that Virtual Tours are a great marketing tool. In many cases, they help draw interest in a listing. I wonder if we, as the listing agents, are doing our clients right by not teaching them to protect themselves. I think that we do our clients a disservice when we don't teach them to put all valuables (5 comments)
Cedar City Real Estate - 01/24/08 03:27 AM
Great news! Governor Huntsman in his State of the State address mentioned that the economy in Utah is flourishing! This comes from a Governor that was a businessman prior to becoming a politician! That is good news! We are turning the corner on Winter and heading towards Spring, which always makes me feel good. The annual rebirth of life in all of it's miraculous splendor, reminds me of my place in the world. That being said, there is still a lot of snow available for Winter fun, whether it is skiing, snowmobiling or just viewing! We generally receive a lot of (0 comments)
Computers and such - 01/23/08 02:59 AM
Well, the week is into full swing, and I have spent parts of two days trying to get my computer fixed. It never fails, just when things seem to be improving, something else gets in the way. My laptop has been infected with a virus. We spent nearly an entire day getting the anti virus program to run through all of my programs to make sure that we had everything isolated and removed that was infected. What a pain! It worked great for a while then BOOM there it was again this afternoon, so another several hours spent running through the (6 comments)
More on Cedar City - 01/17/08 12:55 AM
Well, the Christmas decorations and light are all down, but the views here are still nice. We have had some snow, so the ski resort is happy, and so are the skiers. It is kind of the inbetween time of year, the early excitement for the snow has dissapated, and spring is still a couple of months away, yet it is still beautiful. We have around 300 days of sunshine each year, so even this time of year the sun is still out and beautiful, although the past couple of days, we have wondered if the sun is just a mirage, (0 comments)
Been away from blogging for a few days......... - 01/16/08 01:36 AM
Hello again everyone! Sorry I have been swamped and been away for a few days. I have missed it. Is anyone else out there addicted to blogging? Just kidding, it feels good to be back. We had a small emergency in our family, thank heavens, nothing serious! Everyone seems to be doing well now and things are looking up. I dislike it when I have myself extended in so many directions that the slightest thing throws a wrench into the entire works. So far, other than what has been going on the past week or so, it has been a great (0 comments)
Studying a New Book - 01/04/08 01:13 AM
I have just began studying another book. I have read some of his writings before, I am starting "Awaken the Giant Within," by Anthony Robbins. I was wondering, has anyone studied with Mr. Robbins before. I have read the 1st chapter and so far it seems pretty good. I like the philosophy that change starts with one's self, and that success depends again on one's self not on other factors. I know that Anthony Robbins used to to the infomercials years ago, and has this big retreat like seminars. Other than that, I plead ignorance. Like I said, I have read (2 comments)
Forecast..for change - 01/03/08 05:26 AM
We just got a boost from the State's economic forecaster. The economy in Utah is expected to continue growing through 2008 and beyond! This is great news, we have an extremely low unemployment rate, and new businesses continue to come into our state in large numbers. There is some excitement over some oil discoveries near Richfield, and with oil at an all time high in prices, there is a lot of interest in developing our oil shale and tar sands and refining them. This is exciting, here closer to home a new factory is preparing to come online and begin production (0 comments)
Great Book..... - 01/03/08 01:14 AM
I just finished read a great book that Darcy got me for Christmas. It is entitled "No Greater Love" by Todd Anton. Darcy, knowing of my love of baseball and history especially World War II found the perfect gift for me to read, and I highly recommend it to anyone here in the United States. While it may not directly have a bearing on the Real Estate industry, it's message is inspiring and uplifting. Mr. Anton is a history teacher in Phelan, California. He put together a great book talking to former professional baseball players about their service in the Military (1 comments)
