Dangerous Habit............... - 06/30/09 03:20 AM
I will be the first to tell you that I liked the pre cell phone days.  I liked be able to be invisible for an afternoon or weekend.  Heck, even a night out with no interruptions was great.  Times have changed, as have people's expectations.  Clients expect to be able to talk to you when they want to talk to you.  It is a concession that I have grudgingly made over the years.  You have to have a cell phone if you want to list and sell houses, even in Cedar City, Utah.
I will also admit, I am still fairly … (0 comments)

Friday's Quote.................... - 06/26/09 06:33 AM
I have been reading some inspirational quotes this morning and I came across one by one of my favorite US Presidents Harry S Truman.  I will not add anything to his quote, it is a classic!  It goes like this:

"I always remember an epitaph which is in the cemetery at Tombstone, Arizona. It says: "Here lies Jack Williams. He done his damnedest." I think that is the greatest epitaph a man can have. " ~ President Harry S. Truman

What a Great Day!!! - 06/20/09 11:53 PM
We had a great day today!  I had another Family Reunion this week in Parowan, it was for my mother's side of the family.  It is always great to see and reaquaint yourself with your family.  The rain stayed away long enough for lunch to be done with and a lot of visiting to take place.
Darcy and I then had to drive up to Brian Head to show condos to a new client.  It was a lot of fun, Brian Head is a ski resort town, and is very beautiful.  Today it also had a lot of rain and hail.  … (2 comments)

Social Media Revisted.............. - 06/20/09 11:45 PM
I know that I have commented on Social Media in the past, but I just wanted to talk about it again.  I am so excited of the possibilities that Social Media brings to us as Realtors, it allows us to build relationships with other Realtors to the point that I don't even hesitate to refer a client to an internet associate in another state or even country.  It is great!  I know that there is a lot of phishing and garbage that people try to exploit, but I really believe that the good far outweighs the bad.
Last night I was … (0 comments)

Days on Market - 06/18/09 05:49 AM
Do each of you know what the average Days on Market is for listing in your area?  I honestly believe that it is one of the most important facts to know about your given area.  Like a lot of realtors, we chase expired listings as a way to make up for a smaller sphere of influence.  Right now, our Days on Market in our two primary areas is 157 days.  Why is knowing this important to us?
Simple, I don't know how many expired listings that I have contacted that have had a 90 Day listing agreement.  Why on earth would … (5 comments)

Pacific Northwest in Utah?? - 06/18/09 05:16 AM
Last summer Darcy and I went to Portland for a few days.  It was a great time, we got rain almost everyday that we were there.  I don't know if that is normal for Portland or not, we have only been there the one time.  I must repeat, that is some of the most beautiful scenery that I have ever seen.  The weather was nice and warm when the sun was out, but it would cloud up and rain each day.
This summer I think that Portland and the Pacific Northwest came to us.  For over two weeks we have enjoyed … (3 comments)

Your Listings............... - 06/16/09 05:01 PM
How much control do each of you have as Realtors over your listing in the MLS?  What I am talking about is the content of your listings.  Do you go back and check to make sure that everything contained on the MLS listing is correct?  If not, who is responsible for the content that is on your listing?  Darcy enters all of the information for each of our listings.
I know that many agents use the office staff to do it, Darcy just prefers to do it herself, she likes controlling the content as well as knowing that deadlines given … (5 comments)

We're Back!!! - 06/16/09 04:43 PM
Back from the family reunions in Salt Lake, man you forget what real traffic is like!  Here rush hour last at most 15 minutes and means that you wait an extra minute or two to turn.  That is what I like about living in a smaller city, it is much more relaxing.
We had a great time at the reunions, the main one was just for My Grandparents posterity, meaning Uncles, cousins and their kids, grandkids etc.  There was another that Darcy and I went to after for a few minutes for the posterity of my great-great-grandfather.
We got … (2 comments)

The Times in Which We Live............. - 06/12/09 04:22 AM
I am writing this post to say that I am amazed at the times that we live in.  When I graduated High School in the early 1980's, I would have never believed that I could communicate with someone across the country or even around the World with instantaneous interaction, like instant messaging, or email.  I wouldn't have believed that I would spend hours each day in front of a computer screen, having access at my very key strokes to allow me to run my business.  In fact, I would never have believed that my business would depend on the Internet, web … (10 comments)

Family Reunion.............. - 06/12/09 04:03 AM
This doesn't have a lot to do with buying or selling houses in Cedar City, Utah, but it is a blog to say that Darcy and I are off a little later this afternoon to a family reunion in Northern Utah.  South Jordan to be exact, it is the reunion for my Dad's family.  It started in the 1970's as a birthday party for my Grandmother, as she passed on, it stayed a staple in my family.
Don't get me wrong, I love the opportunity to see cousins that I only see at these reunions.  It is also a time of … (2 comments)

Realtor Family Night Out Part Two - 06/11/09 12:21 AM
Well we finished the 2nd Annual Iron County Board of Realtors Family Night Out.  It was a lot of fun, it was a 1970's based theme.  There was a DJ that played only music from the 1970's, there was karaoke, and sing alongs.  There were games for the kids, and there was a contest where agents submitted photos of themselves from the decade of the 1970's and you had to guess who they were.  That was a Blast!
We also had a music trivia contest with the DJ playing songs and we had to guess artist, or year of the song.  … (3 comments)

Realtor Family Night ........... - 06/10/09 03:52 AM
Tonight is the second annual Realtor Family Night.  It will be held at the Main Street Park in Cedar City, UT.  It will be from 6:00 PM until 9:00 PM. There will a dutch oven cook off and a cake walk.  Mostly it is an opportunity for those of us who sell real estate here in Cedar City to get together and mingle in a relaxed atmosphere.  It was a wonderful event last year.
This event is open to all Realtors and their families in the Iron County Board of Realtors.  This year the is a 1970's theme.  Something that I … (3 comments)

Zions National Park #1 - 06/08/09 06:59 PM
According to a KSL news story TripAdvisor has listed Zions National Park as the best National Park to visit in the US narrowly beating out the Grand Canyon which finished second.  The beauty of this as that if you wished to visit some great National Parks, you could easily visit the top two parks in one visit.  They are only about 4 hours drive time (Don't quote me exactly, it's been 20 years since I have been to the main entrance of the Grand Canyon) at least to the North Rim through the Kaibab National Forrest.
These are two spectacular Parks, … (4 comments)

Our Place in History.......................... - 06/07/09 12:34 AM

Yesterday, we commemorated the crucial battle in the European Theater of World War II.  Like many, I say a heartfelt thanks to those soldiers that fought and sacrificed in that battle.  It was a tremendous achievement and the turning point in the war in Europe.  So many things could have proven disastrous to the Allied attack, the weather broke just long enough for the invasion.  The sea although very rough, could have been worse.  The counterintelligence ruse worked as the Germans held back their tanks, believing that it was a diversion, that the real attack was yet to comeEven with … (7 comments)

Great Question.................. - 06/05/09 12:15 AM
We had a wonderful prelisting meeting with some of the people in our Sphere of Influence.  They are getting their house ready to sell, and wanted us to come by and let them know what it would sell for, and if the improvemments that they have and are doing will net them any return in a sale.  They are a young couple and they are not only looking sell a house in Cedar City, but to buy one here as well.  This has the potential of being a great deal for us.
They are not in a position where they have … (7 comments)

Selling Your House On Your Own..................... - 06/03/09 04:52 PM
Today, it seems that there are many people that think that they can sell their houses on their own, and many people have the time, marketing savvy, and ability to do just that.  This is not just happening with home sellers in Cedar City, but it is going on all over the world.  I liken selling a house on your own, to repairing your newer car on your own.  Years ago, in the dark ages, when I learned to drive, cars were pretty simple relatively speaking to work on.  If an older car wouldn't start, you checked to see if the … (8 comments)
