Scenic Saturday....Frost Blossoms?....... - 01/30/10 02:01 PM
In a blog by Russel Ray he questioned why bees didn't respond as well as his cool cat did.  I was jealous that in San Diego the trees and plants were in bloom, here not so much.  Then I thought of some photos that Darcy took this morning.  It wasn't a terribly cold, but the after affects of last nights fog looked like the trees had been flocked.

The black spots are English Starlings.

Scenic Saturday...Frosty Lane.... - 01/30/10 01:52 PM
We were out showing homes and taking photos for several BPO's this morning, it was cold, but mostly it was bright and frosty after last nights fog.  These photos were taken in Enoch, which is North of Cedar City.  We thought that they looked pretty cool, we hope that you like it.

Full Moon..... - 01/30/10 01:43 PM
Last night we had some fog here in Cedar City, which is a little odd, but it was fun.  Where we live it wasn't as bad as it was in other parts of town.  We thought that the moon was really cool looking in the fog.  I should probably have taken the time to get the tripod out, but I think that the shot turned out pretty good.

Scenic Saturday....Blue Skies..... - 01/30/10 11:55 AM
This is a photo from last winter of the snow in the sage brush and on some ledges.  It seems that this Winter not very many parts of the Country are exempt from snowfall!  I wanted to point out that even after all the storms out there, the sun comes out and there are blue skies ahead!  Have a great Weekend!

Foto Friday...Brian Head in the Summer.... - 01/29/10 03:32 PM
Brian Head is a wonderful ski resort, I know that it sounds odd for a Native Utahn, but I have never skied.  I injured my knees playing football when I was young, and to be honest, never had the desire to attempt skiing. Brian Head offers year round recreational opportunities.  This is a view of the sloped during the summertime when everything is beautiful and green.

Foto Friday...Fingers at Kolob... - 01/29/10 03:27 PM
This is a photograph of the Fingers at Kolob.  Kolob Canyon is part of Zions National Park.  It is accessed from Exit 40 on I15.  This photo was taken from the New Harmony area before we bought our telephoto lens, so even as beautiful as it is, the photo can be improved upon!  We are blessed to live in one of the most scenic parts not only in Utah, but in the US as well.

Foto Friday...Mixed Use???? - 01/29/10 03:21 PM
I was going through some of the photos that we have taken as we have traveled around our area, trying to think of a way to use the photos that we already have taken.  I came up with the idea that this is Mother Nature's idea of a mixed use development.  Aspen and Pine trees mixed together in a beautiful setting!

Thankful Thursday Part II...Valleys and Wide Open Spaces... - 01/28/10 07:05 PM
I just posted in another blog that one of the things that I am so thankful for is that we live so near the mountains, with the cool air, pine tree forests and vistas.  I am also grateful that we live in the basin and range landscape of large open valleys.  Here they are mostly sage brush covered and offer unbelievable solitude, these combined with the mountains allow us to get away from things in a few minutes to whatever terrain that we are looking for!

Thankful Thursday...Mountains and Trees.... - 01/28/10 06:45 PM
On this thankful Thursday, I wanted to say that I am thankful that we live so near the mountains and the trees. Even if the trees are being decimated by the bark beetles.  We are literally just minutes away from being in the mountains, breathing fresh air and enjoying vistas like this.  That is one of the things that I love about living in Southern Utah!

Monday's Motivational Thought - 01/25/10 04:08 PM
I have been trying to think of something to write about for nearly an hour.  I have been through my pages of inspirational quotes that I keep and add to periodically for something, yet couldn't find anything good for today.  This is about as close as I get to writer's block, usually my lack of blogs can be attributed much more to laziness than any other thing.  However, I came across something that struck me as appropriate in my Franklin Planner.
It is from Horace Walpole an 18th Century English historian and Noble, most famously known for his house Strawberry Hill … (14 comments)

Great Friday....... - 01/22/10 05:22 PM
It was a great Friday even if it began by shoveling 5 to 6 inches of snow off the driveway.  Darcy and I took some clients out to see homes.  They are a young couple and first time home buyers, it is fun to watch first time buyers, there is so much that they are looking at.  This couple really are going about it the right way, they have in mind what they want what they need and what they are willing to spend.  All of which make our job much easier.
The really fun thing about showing homes to … (16 comments)

Buyers Seminar..... - 01/22/10 03:31 PM
We got late notice about a First Time Buyers Seminar in conjunction with USDA and their loan programs.  It was a wonderful idea, our office participated with several other real estate offices, along with several mortgage companies.  It would have been a great seminar except for the blizzard that blew into town yesterday, attendance was obviously down.  There were a couple of families braved the horrible roads to look at what is available.
One of the great things that we learned was that the Cedar City Housing Authority offers free loan modification assistance.  This is a great free help to those … (6 comments)

Wordless Wednesday II.....Raindrops Keep Falling on My Head...... - 01/20/10 04:54 PM
I need to get some more sleep or something.  The Sundance Film Festival opens today in Park City and Salt Lake and I got thinking about one of Robert Redford's Films that was filmed around here; "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid." It also starred Paul Newman as Utah's Robin Hood, Butch Cassidy.  The song Raindrops Keep Falling on My Head by BJ Thomas was featured in that film, so here is my take:

Okay so they were hitting the window!

Wordless Wednesday..."Walking along in a Winter Wonderland".... - 01/20/10 04:44 PM
I know that I don't usually post about Winter and snow, but I do live in snow country, so I thought that I should repent of my ways and put in some pictures of where we live instead of wishing my time a way dreaming of Spring and Summer.  These photos were taken just East of our house in Cedar City.  I will admit that they were taken last Winter, but the song popped into my head as I looked at these:

If I were a lot younger, I would have been very tempted to have made a Snow … (3 comments)

St. George........ - 01/19/10 03:55 PM
Here in Cedar City we are blessed with all 4 Seasons, we are currently expecting to receive some storms this week that should bring more snow to us.  We are blessed when the weather gets really bad or cold we can make a short 50 mile drive to St. George.  I think that St. George only has 2 Seasons temperate and the face of the Sun.  (Just kidding)  Anyway, back to what I was saying it is a lot of fun to get away and go to St. George when the weather is cold.
St. George is a lot larger than … (16 comments)

Do you believe in Ghosts?????? - 01/18/10 12:44 PM
I know that many people believe in the paranormal, I am not going to blog about that.  I am blogging about using a ghost writer to write your blogs.  What do you think of that practice?  I know a couple of agents that employ a ghost writer on their blogs simply because they are too busy to sit down and write a blog.  They may feel uncomfortable putting their own thoughts and ideas into the public, or for whatever reason they use another person to write their blogs.
What do you "Rainers" think about this?  I personally find it cathartic to … (18 comments)

Monday Motivational Revisited........................... - 01/18/10 11:38 AM
I hope that everyone is enjoying Martin Luther King Day!  Here we're expecting a big storm, but other than that it has been a great day so far!  I think that Monday Holidays are sometimes detrimental to getting started in the right way for the week.  There is always the dilemma of whether to work or spend it with your family.  There is no wrong answer to that question, it is up to you and your priorities.
Here is a thought from Lee Iacocca:
"If you want to make good use of your time, you've got to know what's most … (2 comments)

Mostly Cloudy or Mostly Sunny???? - 01/16/10 11:25 AM
I know that I have as have many others said that attitude is paramount to success in life not just Real Estate.  So I have done my variation on the glass half full question.  Is it mostly Sunny? or is it mostly Cloudy?  It is you're choice!

Your answer will determine your level of success!
Make it a great weekend!

Great Web Site........................... - 01/16/10 10:32 AM
We have been told about a great web site to help save money on groceries.  One of the people in our office told us about it.  It is www.grocerysmarts.com in Utah the pass code is g84cdp, which from what I understand is good for the entire state.  We like the site because it lines up the coupons with the store advertised specials and lists them by store so that you can do your comparison shopping from your computer.
I know that as of 10 seconds ago there were codes on the home page for Idaho, Washington, California and Arizona.  Although the code … (4 comments)

Foto Friday II .......Serenity............ - 01/15/10 05:11 PM
I struggled with calling this Serenity or Solitude.  I think both work.  I don't know how most of you deal with things, but there are times when I need to just get away for an hour or two.  I like to find a place where I get just think without any distractions.  Someplace like this:

This is taken from Highway 9 between Hurricane and Zions National Park.  It works for that serene place to just think!

Foto Friday....Thinking Green..... - 01/15/10 04:24 PM
Yesterday was one of those chilly days where it felt like it snowed all day but in the end had less than an inch of snow on the ground.  Those of us that live in snowy climates have experienced cold raw days like that.  To make a long story short, I started thinking green or thinking of greens.  I am not a golfer, not even a duffer, but now even I can relate to this:

Thursdays Thought......... - 01/14/10 04:46 PM
How many of us find ourselves in moments of silence or when things are really hectic dreaming of a day when we will be able to retire and just go fishing?  I know that I do, I often think to myself, it will sure be nice when the house is paid off and we have no bills to work at my own leisure.  I don't know how wrong this is, I do believe that in these moments we think of our dreams and make goals to achieve them.
I came across a quote by Charles C Colton, a 19th Century … (8 comments)

Parowan Happenings....... - 01/13/10 04:38 PM
Tonight at a town hall meeting honoring Parowan's 159th Birthday, the town will also honor it's outstanding citizens' of the year.  This year's recipients are Clarence and Wanda Benson.  They have been actively involved in many organizations in Parowan for many, many years.
From a personal perspective no more humble, hard working, honest people exist not only in Parowan, but anywhere.  Wanda for years has attended every funeral that has taken place in either Parowan or Paragonah. Also she has attended most of the weddings taking place in either town.  To his friends (which is honestly everyone) Clarence is known … (4 comments)

Almost Wordless, Almost Wednesday........ - 01/12/10 04:37 PM
Darcy and I went out to get some lunch from the office, we also had to take some photos for a BPO that Darcy is doing.  While we were out it was obvious that another storm was blowing in as it is cloudy with a chilly wind blowing.  It wasn't terribly photogenic, but I found this photo in some of our old photos that I have been holding on to make a blog with.  It shows a storm coming in a dramatic way:

You can see a little of the mountain between the clouds, we couldn't figure out what the … (18 comments)

Parowan Rock Church - 01/11/10 04:06 PM
In doing our series of Churches in the Cedar City Area, I am including the Old Parowan Rock Church.  It is no longer a Church, rather it is a museum about the settlers of not only Parowan, but of all of Southern Utah.  The Church was completed in 1867 and served as an LDS Meetinghouse until the 1920's.  It was restored in the 1940's and has been used as a museum since I can remember.
It is located in the Town Square in Parowan, near the Parowan Library.

Mondays Thoughts................. - 01/11/10 02:15 PM
I was going through me email this morning and came across a quote that I think is appropriate every time of the year, but even more so at this time of the year.  Many people look at the first part of the year as a time to reorganize, renew, and explore any way to do a better job at their business, home and personal lives.  The quote that I came across is from the Great American Poet Carl Sandburg.
"Time is the coin of your life. It is the only coin you have, and only you can determine how it will … (9 comments)

New Software Idea....... - 01/09/10 04:08 PM
I was wasting time last night, okay it was late by I was satisfying my morbid curiosity watching "Forensic Files" on Court TV.  It was one about a lady whose skeleton was found in North Carolina, they were having a hard time identifying the remains.  Anyway the jurisdiction in North Carolina couldn't afford to buy some expensive software to manipulate the photos of the skull and match it with a photo of the suspected victim of this horrific crime.
They had a Professor at UNC download some free software from the internet and did the comparison, while it wouldn't stand up … (9 comments)

Fridays Musings....... - 01/08/10 03:39 AM
As the first full week of the new year draws to a close, how many of our resolutions or goals have also been closed out?  If most of you are like me if you haven't given them up yet they're dangling by a thread.  What makes us give these things up so quickly.  I know that some of you are able to keep them for the entire year.  Some of you are even better than that, and you are able to turn them into habits that you keep for the rest of your life.
I will admit that I don't have … (16 comments)

Cedar City Area Churches........ - 01/05/10 06:15 PM
In continuing our series about the many wonderful Congregations that add so much to our community.  The First Church that I am highlight in this blog is the First Baptist Church.  It is a Southern Baptist Congregation it is also the location of the soup kitchen here in Cedar City.

This Church is located on 200 North near the downtown area of Cedar City.
The next Church that I am highlighting today is the Calvary Chapel in Cedar City.  It is located near the airport on airport road in Cedar City.

Again these two Churches and thier congregations are … (14 comments)

Virtual REBar Camp..... - 01/04/10 10:29 PM
Darcy and I each participated in the virtual REBar camp today, what a great experience!  It is at least 3 hours in any direction for us to participate in a camp like this, so having it online was great.  I really enjoyed learning from great teachers like Jay Thompson, the Phoenix Real Estate Guy.  There were so many others, but his class on blogging was just outstanding!
The only mistake that we made was that we went to the office to listen to/participate in the camp, and there are a lot of distractions that take place in an office setting!  Other … (12 comments)

Cedar City Churches...One in Enoch and One in Cedar City.... - 01/03/10 06:58 PM
I need to get back into the series of Churches that bless our community.  They are diverse and that is a good thing.  I chose today to focus on one Church in Enoch which is about 5 miles North of Cedar City.  It is the The Cedar City Seventh-Day Adventist Church.  It is on Old Highway 91 in Enoch.  The building has a great pine tree that obscures it somewhat.

The Sign for the Church.

The Cedar City Seventh-Day Adventist Church Building.
The other Church that I am highlighting in this blog is in Cedar City.  The Westview … (5 comments)

Cedar City Subdivisions....Rancho Bonita..... - 01/02/10 03:11 PM
The next subdivision that we're highlighting in our series on subdivisions in the Cedar City area is the Rancho Bonita Subdivision.  It is not a subdivision that is marketed by our office, but it is a nice area.  It is about 1/2 mile north of the Sunrise Meadows Subdivision that we highlighted yesterday.  The lots are 1/2 acres and honestly this is another developing subdivision, it is still fairly new and there are several lots available for you to bring a builder.
The homes in this subdivision are more of the custom sized homes and prices have ranged from $260K to … (7 comments)

Good Movie................ - 01/01/10 10:42 PM
Darcy and I went to a movie this afternoon.  We went and saw the new Sherlock Holmes movie.  It was very good.  I thought that was very well acted, the story and special effects were also very good.  I don't wish to give the plot away, so I won't go into great deal about it, there was one line that I believe is important to not only detectives, but to everyone.
In short, Holmes was talking to Watson's fiance, and she mentioned that he came to fantastic conclusions from the smallest details.  His comment was important he said something to the … (21 comments)

Cedar City Subdivisions....Sunrise Meadows... - 01/01/10 10:28 PM
It has been several days since we did a blog on our subdvisions here in Cedar City.  Today, we are focusing on another newer subdivision in the unincorporated county.  This subdivison is Northwest of Cedar City about 8 miles.  The homes are all on 1/2 acre lots and are a minimum of 1300 square feet.  You can bring your own builder for a custom home.  There are still lots left for that, there are currently two homes listed in this subdivision they are in the $166K to $177K range.

This is the sign, we are excited about this subdivision as … (7 comments)

Foto Friday....Moon Shade??? - 01/01/10 10:04 PM
I went out to put some trash in the garbage and noticed the moon.  The sky has some high, light cloud cover.  It looked really cool, and being New Year's Day, I immediately thought lamp shade on the moon.  I know it is silly, but I am mostly sleep deprived today, so I hope that you will give me a little break!  I also hope that everyone had a safe and Happy New Year!
