Thankful Thursday...Training Tomorrow..... - 09/30/10 09:18 PM
Tomorrow the ERA Brokers in the State have provided a training for their agents.  We get to listen to Bob Davies, America's Performance Coach.  This is something that our Broker's do for us at least once a year.  I am looking forward to this training.  It should be good.  I am glad that we are in offices which have Brokers who provide training like this for us!  I will have to let everyone know what we thought of the training!

Photo Thursday...Storm Clouds.... - 09/30/10 08:01 PM
I took this photo out of our Family Room window at some serious looking storm clouds.  I am hoping for a lot of rain!  We have a couple of wildfires burning in the vicinity, and a real good rain storm would really help us get those put out!  We have had quite a lot of smoke in the air the past few days, so I really hope that it rains!

Thursdays Thoughts...America's Pastime.... - 09/30/10 07:43 PM
This is my favorite time of the year for sports.  I like the other sports, especially Football, but I really like Baseball.  To me Baseball really emulates life, it is long race and not a sprint.  We have seen it especially in the National League, with the Phillies overcoming a plethera of injuries to take the National East, after trailing the Braves most of the season.
In the National League West it still isn't decided, the Giants of San Francisco taking over the lead late after San Diego led the division for 114 days of the season.  The thing that I … (4 comments)

Another Wednesday Thought....Staying in Shape.... - 09/29/10 06:38 PM
I love going to car shows.  The cars there often in better shape than they were when they were new.  They have either been restored to, or maintained in Top Condition.  Their owners often spend thousands of dollars to get them ready to show them.

1929 Model A Ford

1954? Ford Pickup

Willey's Jeep Pickup
We can learn lessons from these car owners.  We can either maintain our health, or we can spend the money and time to restore our bodies to a healthy state.  This is something I am going to learn the hard way.  Eating right, … (12 comments)

Wordless (almost) Wednesday...Attitude Determines Altitude.... - 09/29/10 06:23 PM
I mentioned in my last post that I have not been feeling well since Sunday.  Today for Wordless Wednesday, I would like to just say that Attitude determines Altitude.  That is readily evident in all aspects of life.  How often have we awakened to the feelings that we were going to have a great day, and we did.  By the same token, how many of us have awakened not feeling well, or in a bad mood, only to have a rotten day!

Wednesday..... - 09/29/10 02:11 PM
Here is it Wednesday and one of the C Team has been under the weather all week!  I am still not feeling good, but I am really falling behind.  I found an interesting slideshow on MSN last night that I thought that I would share with you.  It lists the 5 places least likely to have a disaster.  Utah is in the top 5.  I guess that's a good thing, I don't know if it helps the "boring" image that we seem to have around the country.  Here is the link:

Fridays Photos II...Showing Off..... - 09/24/10 02:48 PM
This post I want to add a few photos to show off the area a little bit.  We are basically a desert, but there is beauty to be found almost everywhere, so here goes:

Cedar Mountain from Hwy 14

Views from Hwy 24

Views from along I15

Views from Hwy 12

Views from Hwy 9
None of these photos were taken from any of our National Parks.  Some of them were taken near National Parks, but these are the views that we enjoy.  I hope that you don't mind me showing off!

Friday's Photo...Rising or Setting? - 09/24/10 02:32 PM
I am using one of the photos that Darcy took at the Balloon Festival last weekend.  The question is age old, like the glass is it half empty or half full?  Are the balloons rising or setting?

In this case they were doing both, the rear balloon had already touched down and was rising again, the Maroon and Silver balloon touched down momentarily then took back off.  Life is like that, you only fail if you stop trying to raise back up after being set down!

One Thing........ - 09/23/10 06:21 PM
I know that it is an overly simplistic thing to some people to ask, but what is the one thing that you can do that would improve your business?  How about your home life?  I am talking about one thing that you are not currently doing, or that you are not currently doing well?
How much would your business and personal life improve if you were to figure out one thing that you could do to improve each of them, then focus on doing that one thing each day?  I am not saying that you should stop doing everything else that … (9 comments)

Thankful Thursday.......... - 09/23/10 04:33 PM
I was trying to decide what I would write about for Thankful Thursday.  While going through some ideas, and looking at some quotes that I have.  I came across this quote from one of my favorite sources of quotes, Ralph Waldo Emerson:
“Whatever course you decide upon, there is always someone to tell you that you are wrong. There are always difficulties arising which tempt you to believe that your critics are right. To map out a course of action and follow it to an end requires courage.” I am thankful for many things this Thursday, I am thankful for living … (7 comments)

New Dinosaurs!!!!!!!!!!!!! - 09/22/10 05:26 PM
This has hit the National News, I am putting in a link from the article in The Deseret News about 2 new dinosaur species found in the Escalante Grand Staircase National Park, East of Cedar City.  This is exciting news, I think everyone loved or was infatuated with dinosaurs to some extent when they were children.  One of the new species sounds like it really looked interesting, to say the least!  Here is the link:

Wednesdays 9/22/2010 Thought..... - 09/22/10 04:23 PM
The other day while reading my Inman News email.  I came across a wonderful article by Bernice Ross, It was called 8 Legendary Real Estate Lessons.  The email was in my box on 9/20/2010, and it was 8 practical lessons that Bernice had learned from her friend and mentor, Jon "Jack" Douglass.  I am not going to copy and paste a link in this blog.  I just wanted to comment on one of the lessons that really was an "ah ha" moment for me.
It was the fifth of the 8 lessons that she wrote, Play to Your Strengths.  What a … (5 comments)

Wednesdays Photo...... - 09/22/10 04:07 PM
I chose to use a photo from last weekend's Balloon Festival in this post.

Darcy took this photo last Saturday, September 18th, at the Balloon Festival.  The photo was taken from the parking lot of Canyon View High School in Cedar City.  It was such a beautiful day, so typical of the sort of days that we usually enjoy this time of year here in Cedar City.  I hope that you enjoy it!

Thought for Tuesday..... - 09/21/10 04:02 PM
I have a thought to follow up on my blog from yesterday.  I really believe that success in all aspects of life stems from managing your time well.  Time is the one resource that is an absolute, we can never make more, we all have the same number of hours in a day, etc..  Some of us have more years to roam the Earth than others, but each day we are allotted the same amount.  So here is the quote by Wieder Marcia:
"It's how we spend our time here and now, that really matters. If you are fed up with … (16 comments)

Property Disclosures..... - 09/20/10 04:26 PM
Here like most States, our sellers must provide a 6 page Property Condition Disclosure to a potential buyer.  In Utah we have an addedum that an investor can fill out that says that they have never occupied the property, therefore there are no Property Disclosures to be sent to a potential buyer.  The question is, does that mean that a non-occupant owner can get away with not revealing any known defects to the property?
The short answer is no.  Don't let your sellers get caught in a trap of using the Non Occupant Addendum to try to cover up a defect … (9 comments)

Monday's Thought....... - 09/20/10 01:47 PM
I have been doing some of my self improvement lately.  I have been reading Shift, and Millionaire Real Estate Agent by Gary Keller.  Both are very informative and very good reads.  In his Millionaire Real Estate Agent, Gary Keller uses modeling as an important skill set to learn.  According to him, we should model our businesses after successful agents.
This is an important thing to remember, every successful person has habbits that have made him or her successful.  There are basic things that all of them do.  They go to work every day, they follow up, they prospect.  Contrary to what … (7 comments)

I come in Peace?????? - 09/18/10 01:15 PM
I saw this balloon at the Balloon Festival, and I immediately thought of Vegas Bob.  I will admit that I really expected a lot greater technology than balloon travel!  I would imagine that crossing the confines of outer space would really be a hassle in a Balloon!  Maybe their ship runs on such an advanced fuel that once they ran out they were unable to find it here on Earth!

Vegas Bob, if you're on the balloon, call, we can do lunch!

Scenic Saturday....Peace.... - 09/18/10 01:03 PM
This photo of the dove is from our front yard.  Darcy was able to catch the dove while it was still pearched on our roof.  I tried to get the same dove earlier on the neighbors roof, but he didn't want his picture taken by me.  I know that it isn't a white dove, but rather a mourning dove.  I have always thought that doves were the symbols of peace.

Have a great Weekend!

Scenic Saturday...Rabbit Brush..... - 09/18/10 12:57 PM
I have gotten a little inspiration from Russel Ray, in that I am seeing art or beauty in plants and flowers much more now than later.  I thank him, it has caused a "stop and smell the roses" attitude that I am finding enjoyable.  It is amazing just how much beauty around that I for one have taken for granted!  Here is todays photo, rabbit brush.  I don't know what the scientific name is, to me it has always been Rabbit Brush:

This particular plant is very common in our area.

Balloon Festival..... - 09/18/10 12:49 PM
This morning was our annual Balloon Festival.  Some years it doesn't happen because of weather conditions.  To me, the observer, today was a gorgeous day to hold the festival!  There were many beautiful balloons up in the sky.  It is sort of surreal to watch them floating in the breeze.  It was really cool when it was quiet enough to hear them adding heat to the balloon.

It was a gorgeous day, and I have a lot of photos to use in future blogs as well.  Come up and see why Cedar City is the Festival City!

Fridays Foto...A touch of Sunshine...... - 09/17/10 07:18 PM
Today I was out taking photos for a BPO.  I passed literally thousands of Sunflowers along the way.  I thought that they were just too beautiful to go past without taking a photo of them.  This was taken along the roadside.  I do like sunflowers they are very beautiful!  Anyway I hope that you enjoy it.  I couldn't get the bee that was visiting to cooperate with me, so he didn't get his picture taken!  Have a great weekend!

Interesting Poll Numbers...UAR.... - 09/17/10 12:39 PM
The Utah Association of Realtors conducted a poll among people who have either recently purchased a home, or were considering purchasing a home.  I don't want to share the entire article with you, just some of the the numbers.
69% of people in this survey said that they were looking to buy a home in the $100K to $300K range.  That would suggest that homes that are priced higher than $300K are only going to be looked at by 31% of the people in the market at this time.
90% of the people surveyed still looked at a home as a … (4 comments)

A Quote for Friday...... - 09/17/10 12:07 PM
I mentioned that we had been in Northern Utah most of the week, it was a good trip.  I just put myself into a little hole here on Active Rain.  While up there I came across a quote by General George Patton.  My Uncle served in World War II, while he was in infantry and not in Patton's brigades, he admired Patton.  He admired Patton for the fact that he led his troops into battle, he didn't just send them and stand back and watch.  Anyway, here is the quote:
"If everyone is thinking alike, then someone isn't thinking."

Regional or Statewide Multiple Listing Services...... - 09/10/10 04:18 PM
We (our office) just had an interesting meeting with Utahrealestate.com.  They are the Wasatch Front (Salt Lake, Ogden and Provo) Multiple Listing Service Provider.  They are trying to become our Multiple Listing Service Provider.  They currently are the Multiple Listing provider for the Northern part of Utah.  Our current contract with our provider is up in the next few months, so they are trying to have us join them.
This would create close to a statewide Multiple Listing Service.  I am not sure how I feel about that.  I do think that is what the future will hold.  With the internet, … (18 comments)

Fridays Thoughts......Buyers.... - 09/10/10 03:30 PM
Do you remember when you were a child, when certain places seemed like Castle or Mansions?  I do, for me that place was my Grandmothers house.  She had a hard life, she was a young widow in the midst of the Great Depression with 5 sons ranging from teenagers to a toddler.  She made do, and I never heard her complain how rough things were.  They survived the Depression and World War II, my Uncle even survived Omaha Beach.
The Mansion of my childhood is gone now, a victim of progress.  I have a couple of photos of the old house, … (11 comments)

Thankful Thursday.....What a Wonderful World! - 09/09/10 04:31 PM
I have written a couple of blogs in the past few days about the beauty that is found in Southern Utah.  I am so very thankful for that beauty.  Not only the beauty that is found here in Southern Utah, but also the beauty that is found all over the world!
"I see skies of blue and clouds of white The bright blessed day, the dark sacred night And I think to myself, what a wonderful world"
That is of course from the classic Louis Armstrong song What a Wonderful World.

Almost Wordless Wednesday II...Southern Utah's Beauty.... - 09/08/10 05:11 PM
I didn't want to include these photos with the earlier post on Zions National Park and it's beauty.  These photos were taken just West of Capitol Reel National Park.  The terrain is similar to the terrain in Zions, and I didn't want to create any confusion.  If Zion's is one of my favorite places to visit, Capitol Reef would be my favorite.  My father was born just West of the Park in the town of Torrey.

Almost Wordless Wednesday...Southern Utah's Beauty.... - 09/08/10 04:57 PM
I want to show some more of the beauty that we enjoy here in Southern Utah.  Right now is nearing the perfect time to come and enjoy much of it.  The temperature is dropping to the range where it is pleasant to get out and enjoy, and Winter has yet to arrive!

Wednesday with some Words....... - 09/08/10 04:16 PM
I know that I, along with many others have blogged about keeping a good attitude in the face of what to most is a bad economy.  If we listen for the next 50 some odd days we're going to continue to hear just how bad the economy is.  I came across this quote by one of my favorite sources of quotes, Ralph Waldo Emerson.  Here is the quote:

This is one of the great truths which seems to be lost on many of us.  It really depends on … (3 comments)

Looking Back at Labor Day..... - 09/07/10 04:12 PM
Yesterday was a busy day for us.  Our broker sponsored a float in the Iron County Fair Parade.  (The Iron County Fair is always held Labor Day weekend.)  So all of the agents in the office walked the Parade route handing out small US flags.  It was a lot of fun!  The only problem is that our photographer decided that sleeping was more fun than taking photos of us at the parade, so we didn't get any photos of that.
After the parade there was a car show in conjunction with the Fair and the Holiday.  Some friends of ours were … (12 comments)

Another Thought for Today.... - 09/07/10 03:59 PM
I was debating whether to use this quote by Oliver Wendell Holmes for my Motivational Tuesday blog instead of the one by James Allen.  Oliver Wendell Holmes was an Associate Member of the Supreme Court.  I like this quote because it makes me realize that it is never to late to change:
"The greatest thing in this World is not so much where we are, but in what direction we are moving."
This to me, is so true.  It is never too late to turn things around!  That is why it is so important to be patient with our plans and … (5 comments)

Tuesdays Motivational Thought....... - 09/07/10 03:42 PM
This is a quote that I have seen several times, it comes from James Allen, who of course wrote the book, As A Man Thinketh.  It is something that I know to be true in my life, and is probably true in your lives as well.  Here is the quote:
"You will become as small as your controlling desire; as great as your dominant aspiration."
The older I get the more that I realize that I really do control my achievement.  That isn't to say that it wouldn't have been nice to have been born into wealth, but I wasn't.  Where … (6 comments)

Happy Labor Day!!! - 09/04/10 04:03 PM
Wishing everyone a safe and happy Labor Day weekend!  This is a great weekend to relax and spend time with those that you love or doing what you love!  Just have a safe time doing it!  We are staying close to home and have spent a couple of hours at the office getting caught up on some stuff.  Now I think that we're going to go and see if we can't find something fun to do!

Follow Up on a Friends Service Project......... - 09/03/10 03:35 PM
Last May, I think that it was May 3rd, I wrote a blog post about a coworker and friend who was doing a service project to try to get a Grant to fund the purchase of several Automatic Electronic Defibrillator (AED) units for our local schools and athletic facilities.  It is a great project!  Here is the culmination of her efforts on the Grant:
http://www.jennysheroes.com/heroes_20100902_kareno.shtml

Thursday's Thought II - 09/02/10 04:09 PM
The thought I have for my blog is directed to those who are considering whether the time is right to buy a house or to buy investment property.  The quote comes from the "Oracle of Omaha," Warren Buffet.
"Be afraid when people are greedy, and be greedy when people are afraid."
Now is a great time to buy a house!  Interest rates are low, housing prices are relatively low and people are afraid.  This is the time to act!  Sitting on the fence wondering when or if the housing market is at it's bottom, isn't what Mr. Buffet is saying.  … (4 comments)

Thursdays Thoughts...... - 09/02/10 03:53 PM
The thought that I have for today, I actually saw on TV many years ago.  It comes from the actor and comedian Nipsey Russell.  Here is the quote:
"Pro is the opposite of con, that is truly seen.  If progress means to move forward, what does Congress mean?
I am not choosing sides, there is more than enough blame to go around.  Just remember, it is an election year so VOTE.  I would also say vote for someone that represents your values, goals, and ideals, not just for a political party.  But most importantly VOTE!  There are about two months remaining … (5 comments)

Wednesday Thoughts.... - 09/01/10 05:32 PM
I have spent the slow time for the past couple of days going through the sales data from our MLS.  I had broken itdown into quarters, but this time I went into each listing area (that we work) by month.  Our MLS only goes back to the end of March 2007, so it wasn't as bad as it sounds.  I will be honest, it is a lot like really advanced Math for me, it has given me a headache, so in a day or two I will begin to sort out the data, make graphs and draw conclusions from what I … (10 comments)
