A Slurp...A Swallow...A Sigh... - 07/28/11 03:03 PM
Do you hear it;Do you see it;Did you get it;No, no ...not speaking to the congressional 'dance' ongoing; Not indicating any local & state items up for discussion;Never intending to make this a political posting.Am speaking of the recent almost all night-time "Rains".  With more predicted for today, tonight & into Friday / Saturday. What then, might be the problem around here ?Let me first explain--we--here in our part of Macomb County, Michigan--are under a watering-ban-rule..more accurately, we CAN water via sprinklers of the automatic type as long as we follow the Odd-Even [we are Even] days; water only between 12:00 am and 6:00am. The … (22 comments)

After the Rain Storm...Michigan Style - 07/24/11 10:54 PM
We finally had a measurable rain fall today; it was during the 5:00 to 6:30 pm time slot;It was very welcome to the grass, flowers, birds & humans;Around 8:00 pm I noticed some very interesting cloud formations;Thought " Camera";Followed through even as the sun set lower and the colors changed. At the first there was a palpable feeling of humidity and the photos show that :... I thought it might be a blotch on the lens--not so; One special formation appeared over the House directly across from our Home; two houses  to the left of the tree in the above photo.  When cropping … (8 comments)

Did YOU SEE that New Febreze AD ?????... - 07/22/11 04:06 PM
Now, you may question this topic--that is OK.This ad--which is potentially a SyFy movie-set--brings 'regular people from the street' blindfolded into a Room that has been liberally doused with Febreze products.[Fabreeze products that we like & use];...the regular people are asked a series of questions about 'what do you smell'...then these regular folks, take off their blindfolds and SEE that room;Silly ad ? ; sillier 'regualar' people; or just a fun moment????Watching it over & over during the night-time local news, both of us here recall 'that room'.  Years ago, when "House staging" was not as prominent as it is today, we were … (4 comments)

Michigan-- Macomb Co's Mixed Moments....Stranger than Fiction - 07/22/11 03:08 PM
If you rely on Local News papers for information- as the only source- the facts found therein would seem contradictory at best & oppositional at the worst.Just reading the "Large Type-setting-font choices", Macomb County headlines say:...economic 'double-dip' recession possible;...drops in unemployment;...loss of actual workers;...housing sales rebound;...over 1600 foreclosures county wide. These types of 'information' go on & on, depending upon the day, hour of, or the movements / lack there of in state legislature or in Washington.Macomb County, Michigan is still Automotive dependent or related as per the job market.Splinter auto-related businesses are in the position of 'wait-&-see' as per large hiring. There are some … (2 comments)

The fifth Great Lake..Lake Ontario.. - 07/14/11 02:41 PM
The fifth Great Lake has international borders--Canada & Northern New York. The 14th largest lake in the world.
It would be remiss of me to ignore this fifth Great Lake simply because it has no Michigan 'side'; but many Michiganders have traveled through Canada to cross this Lake over to upper New York.Simultaneously many here in Michigan have crossed that ferry by the 1,000 Islands; or perhaps visited Niagara Falls both the American Falls & "The FALLS--the Horseshoe Falls--Ontario".Named Lac Ontario from the French; Canada's most populous province--Ontario--was named for the lake.As the second map above indicated--it is bordered on the north & southwest … (6 comments)

Talking about the Diesel Chevy...2013 ? - 07/13/11 09:41 PM
When Sal worked at the OLD General Motors; there was a time, or a place in time when he drove all types of 'trial-types of cars'; through this process, we purchased one of those delightful Serviles with the wonderful design of the Back section. The present-day PT Cruiser recalls that specific design of the 'diesel Seville'Ours was two-toned Silvered-Blue;Had that distinctive back comprised of 2 slanted areas;...one was the back window &;...the second slant was the actual trunk area. It was so great.Loved to drive that car;Loved the way it handled;Loved the effect it had on 'rude' drivers behind.Because those first diesel cars did … (12 comments)

The second Great lake---Lake Erie...Michigan Side & Point Pelee, Ontario - 07/10/11 10:16 PM
When I began this series of postings on the Great Lakes--Michigan Side; I had thought that when discussing Lake Erie that all I could offer was information.Having forgotten that my parents had taken us to Lake Erie too, the only information to present would be that which all of you could discover through your own research using Wikipedia. Now, I remember!
Thanks to Wikipedia, here we see Lake Erie in the dark blue color;
Erie bounds a lower east area of Michigan,North along Ohio, & New York--US & Ontario-near Leamington. The Lake is 241 Mile long; 57 miles wide. It 'fills' from St. Clair … (4 comments)

pt #2 ...Lake Huron...The Georgian Bay - 07/10/11 08:33 PM

in this map from Wikipedia Commons. the area in dark Blue- to the right of Lake Huron  is the Georgian Bay and the waters to the North. It is a large bay of Lake Huron that is located entirely within Ontario. Lying East of the Bruce Peninsula and Manitoulin Island. The main channel of the Bay separates  Bruce Peninsula from Manitoulin Island.Manitoulin Island is the largest fresh water Island on the planet. The shores and water ways of the Bay are traditional domains of the First Nation Peoples--Ojibwa & Ottawa--the Anishinaabeg in the North & the Huron-Petun [Wyandot]--Algonquian-- to the south. The Georgian Bay is 200 … (4 comments)

The Great Lakes....Michigan Side...Huron - 07/09/11 08:40 PM
A general map showing all the Great Lakes, with Lake Huron darkened. Also, the area to the right of the larger lake is the Georgian Bay; This bay has a history all it's own; by rights this is Canadian territory, but i wll cover it in anotherposting.  I welcome any Canadian Rainers to add to that particular posting which I plan to create on Sunday 7 /10/ 11.     [credit to general photos / images]   When I was a child, these sands seemed to be 'whiter', but then to a child's eyes sandy shores were much lighter than dirt--the waves and water upon which … (6 comments)
