3.8% Real Estate Tax in the Health Reform Bill? I have been getting a lot of upset people asking me about this tax. Facts: Yes there is a 3.8% tax in the Health Reform Bill. It's not a "sales tax" on real estate transactions. It is a Medicare Tax on investment income for so-called “high earners.” Many people "will not" have to pay this tax. The income requirements are clearly spelled out in order to define “high earners” $250,000 for married couple filing jointly $125,000 for couples filing separate returns $200,000 for everyone else. What Your Alarm Company Didn't Tell You Do you currently have an alarm system at your home or business? Are you thinking about having one installed? If you live in Prince William County listen up. All alarms must be registered with Prince William County? The ordinance requiring this went into effect on July 1, 2009. Per the Prince William County Police Department they responded to 9,253 alarm calls in 2009. Only 25 calls were valid! They range from apartment style living with few neighborhood amenities to three level single family homes in gated, golf communities. An active adult community is defined as a residential development designed for people who are 55 years old or older. These communities do not include medical or support services.
