The festival consists of craft vendors, concessions, car shows, family entertainment, a children's area, River Race, Fireworks, and much more. Besides allowing us all to enjoy the culture and heritage of the Cape Fear River, the festival awards scholarships for marine related studies at Cape Fear Community College. "Provinces of Night" starring Hilary Duff and filming in the Wilmington area, is seeking extras. If you are interested, here's what you do: Send a photo with your name, age, address, phone number and e-mail address to: Xtras Casting - 1922 Castle Street - Wilmington, NC 28403 All photos will be held onto for future projects. Filming is scheduled to run from April 15 to May 19. Most extras would be needed for only one or two days. Families and kids in Wilmington NC got to participate in an Easter Egg Drop put on by Lifepoint Church on Saturday, April 11th. Cape Fear Community College received 350-acres donated as a nature preserve., by local donor, Nathan Sanders. The property has designated for research, education and enjoyment of natural beauty. The donation is the first of its kind for the college. The property is lush with marsh grasses, plants, cypress trees, home to wildcats, herons, owls and other wildlife. The reserve has almost a mile of frontage along the Cape Fear River and Motts Creek, as well as several thousand feet of other creeks, fresh water ponds and marshes. The City of Wilmington NC will be holding tennis clinics for children and adults at Empie Park, 3300 block of Park Avenue, beginning in April and running through November.. Clinics are open to adult beginner and intermediate players and children aged 4-16. A local USTA Instructor will be leading each class. The sessions are limited to ten participants. The classes cost $75 for each participant, or $50 for city discount cardholders. City residents can obtain a discount card for $2 from the city's athletics office located at 302 Willard Street.

Friday, February 13th is the start of the 12th Annual Backyard Bird Count. This event is FREE. IT is sponsored by the National Audubon Society and the Cornell Lab of Ornithology. Tucked away at the southern tip of New Hanover County is the NC Aquarium at Fort Fisher.
