Dormont's Dor-Stop Restaurant - 10/31/08 09:56 AM
The Dor-Stop Restaurant in Dormont was featured on the Food Network a couple of days ago with host Guy Fieri. Way to go!
Locally, Pittsburgh Magazine had this to say about it:  "This quaint, family-run diner couldn't be better situated than its place along a beautiful tree-lined street. Dor-Stop began serving homemade potato pancakes, one of its biggest breakfast hits, in 1986. The friendly atmosphere is evident as soon as you enter through the original screen door when the owners and staff greet you with a smile.
Diner favorites include a litany of original-recipe pancakes, including oatmeal cakes, which have the taste … (4 comments)

Finding a Good Real Estate Agent Shouldn't Be Scary - 10/30/08 02:45 PM
Some things are meant to be scary, like horror movies, suspense novels and, of course, Halloween.  But finding a trustworthy Realtor shouldn't be scary.
With over a million and a half brokers out there, it's not hard to find a broker - the challenge lies in finding a good one.  Here are some tips from wikiHow on how to do that:
Meet agents out in their working environment, not in their offices. Good agents spend very little time at their desks.
Another good method is to contact the agent with whom a friend or relative worked. If this agent produced positive results for … (0 comments)

Pittsburgh Makes List of Best Cities for Riding Out a Recession - 10/29/08 09:12 AM
According to a ranking by BusinessWeek, Pittsburgh was #6 on its list of the best cities to live during a recession.  Cities with a strong presence in health care, education, law, energy, and the government will feel the impact of a downturn less than others.
"[E]ven in a recession some communities will fare better than others. And it's not necessarily just the rich ones. What will be most important will be to find communities where the local economy will be relatively unscathed. That means that in the near term people who work in critical fields such as health care and education are likely to … (0 comments)

Tips for Avoiding Home Buyer Remorse - 10/28/08 11:46 AM
Me, using Oprah as a source of information?  Well, I stumbled across these tips on how to "Reverse Home Buyer's Remorse" and thought I'd pass them along:
Pick your real estate agent carefully.
If you are moving to a new area, find an agent who has experience working with buyers who are relocating.
The Internet is a great source of information. (There are a lot of these sites, including Realtor.com, Trulia, and even Craigslist.)
If you're buying or selling a home with a partner, divide the workload so that you don't duplicate efforts.
Moving always seems to come at an inconvenient time, but try to keep … (0 comments)

What a Neat or Messy House Says About Your Politics - 10/21/08 09:46 AM
As pointed out on mental_floss Blog, "a new study in The Journal of Political Psychology looks at the state of your house - are you messy or a neatnik? - and what that says about your politics. According to the study, liberals are messier, conservatives neater. Liberals' homes tend to be ‘colorful and awash in books about travel, ethnicity, feminism and music, along with music CDs covering folk, classic and modern rock, as well as art supplies, movie tickets and travel memorabilia.' Items you're more likely to find around a conservative's home include ‘calendars, postage stamps, laundry baskets, irons and sewing materials.'"  … (0 comments)
