active rain: An Amazing Accomplishment on Active Rain - 10/19/07 09:05 AM
Maureen McCabe...QUEEN Maureen,  has accomplished the unthinkable:
Over 100,000 POINTS FROM ACTIVE RAIN INVITEES ONLY. I had never even considered the possibility of that achievement, given that most of the 14 people I have invited don't blog very much.
I thought everybody would appreciate this email I just received from Queen (Mother) Maureen. It should inspire us all to bring more bloggers to Active Rain!
Thanks I just went over 100K points for invites and I want to thank all those who did it. All 66. Invite Points: 100029 thanks for the big chunk from you. I dislike points but I like the invite … (30 comments)

active rain: Great Gossip: Google Going for GoDaddy? - 09/05/07 03:04 AM
Rumors and gossip are are madly swirling around a possible Google and GoDaddy marriage.
Around two years ago, Google became accredited as a domain name registrar. Meanwhile, GoDaddy, the world’s largest domain registrar, has been busy filing patent applications for search, VOIP and other technologies that would make it an attractive buy to acquisition-hungry Google.
Several of GoDaddy’s recent and interesting patents would help propel one of Web 3.0’s suggested features: Online reputation. Onlline eweek says that GoDaddy’s search results could be filtered and sorted according to the “reputation score of a domain name or that domain name owner’s reputation.”

active rain: Real Estate Bloggers in the News - 04/10/07 06:42 AM
"Blogging has become a key marketing tool for real estate agents."
Michelle Mowad, a talented writer for the San Diego Business Journal, called last week inquiring about real estate blogging and the impact it is having on our San Diego real estate business and life. We talked about Web 2.0 social networking sites like MySpace and how blogging is such a natural communications platform for real estate agents and potential clients. We had a great discussion, and covered a broad range of topics including long tail searches, how Google loves blogs and how a busy Realtor finds time to blog (I arise earlier and have pretty … (6 comments)

active rain: San Diego Landlords Rejoice - 12/12/06 02:51 AM
Every action creates a reaction, and the San Diego County real estate market is no exception. As home sales have cooled this past year, housing rents have risen 5.8 percent, according to the San Diego County Apartment Association. This hefty annual increase is the average rental income for all types of residential rentals in this area. That brings the average to $1237. per month. One and two-bedroom apartments are predominant in the market and have increased by an even loftier 6.2 percent, to an average of $1229.
We knew it was going to happen sooner or later. Too many former homeowners have moved into … (2 comments)

active rain: The Slightly Famous Agent - 12/10/06 02:49 AM
We real estate bloggers aren't exactly seeking rock star fame, but most of us would be happy with slightly famous status. We want be bookmarked in real estate, so people in our target markets come to us with their real estate needs. We need to be able to reach the right audience, with the right message, at the right time. Most of us are honorable, referable and respected real estate professionals. But key to success in our business is being remembered. Without that, we run the risk of operating our businesses on hope and chance. Steven Yoder, author of Slightly Famous, deserves … (25 comments)

active rain: Active Rain Awards - 11/28/06 09:22 AM
Rob Lang wrote a provocative blog about Active Rain awarding points for earned real estate designations (GRI, ABR, CRS, etc). I suggested that perhaps Active Rain could award its own designations.  After giving the idea some thought and play, a few possible designation awards for Rainers emerged (feel free to add more!):
ARM -- Active Rain Mentor awarded to those who share encouragement, tips and tools to make us all better real estate professionals and bloggers. Nominees? We could start with Mary McKnight , Maureen Francis , Bryant Tutas , Kristal Kraft , Damion Flynn , Bill French  and the Christian … (73 comments)

active rain: How to Digg Your Active Rain Blogs - 10/05/06 04:11 PM
Well, I guess I wasn't late to the party, after all! In an earlier post, I mentioned that Digg might be a great place to re-post blogs of interest. Bill Thomas asked about this, and I guess many are familiar with the site, but were unaware they could post blogs there.
Here is the Murphy Manual on how to Digg your blogs:
1. Register at www.digg.com
2. Submit the link to the Active Rain blog of interest.
3. Write a short synopsis of why you are recommending this article. Explain why it is cool.
4. Click submit.
Please don't ask me why it works; it just does. I posted a … (13 comments)

active rain: Active Rain: Digg It! - 10/05/06 08:37 AM
Please forgive me if I am late to the party, but I just discovered we can put specific Active Rain blogs onto Digg. That would seem to be valuable in attracting new (consumer?) traffic to the AR site and to bring some of the more important issues we discuss into public focus. There is a box to introduce the "story" and it's a great place to mention its source, Active Rain.
I am wondering if this creates more googlefood and botbites? The site is also a great place to find some fun blogging ideas. Digg was developed as a tech-focues news site, but … (15 comments)

active rain: Active Rain on the News Map - 09/28/06 06:46 AM
If anyone here doubts the value of blogging or the power of this Active Rain forum, think again. For the second time this month, a reporter has called after reading one of the AR blogs. It has happended to others here as well--and probably more frequently. The first call came from Glenn Roberts at Inman News regarding the relisting of properties to make them appear new.
This morning's call came  from a local news reporter as a result of a short sale blog made 10 days ago (is that approaching a long tail?). He is very concerned about the glut of condo conversions … (7 comments)

active rain: Blog Enhancement - 09/26/06 04:47 PM
I shouldn't be giving secrets away, but for years I have been struggling with an idea that was difficult to translate into a website. Percolating for the last month has been the idea that this concept would be much better-adapted to a BLOG. Thank you Active Rain.
I like the idea of interactivity. I like the concept of community. I wanted something that had sexy visual appeal. I wanted it all. And who do you call when you want it all?
THE REAL ESTATE TOMATO!!!
I can't begin to tell you how excilted I am.
I will keep you posted on progress. In the meantime, … (6 comments)

active rain: Is There a Best Time for Blogging? - 09/23/06 01:11 PM
Beats me. I saw Max Chirkov's response somewhere that he learned not to post on Friday nights.
So, I did and response was minimal. Perhaps it was me, perhaps it was the time of day or day of the week.
Now it is Saturday night and I am preparing to go to dinner--but just finished reading some Active Rain blogs. This is a test. Is Saturday night the worst time to blog? Friday night? When is the best time? Or does it even matter???
Perhaps those more experienced can answer this question!

active rain: Active Rain Blogs on Inman News - 09/22/06 08:33 AM
Recall last week's raging controversy regarding the practice of relisting properties on the MLS so they would have a "fresher" appearance? If I am not mistaken, the issue was ignited when Jim Wolcott wrote his now-famous blog about the nefarious practice of cancelling and re-listing the same properties.
Well, in case you are wondering if news media or any other outside viewers are checking what we have to say, you may want to read the article written by Glenn Roberts, Jr--which I believe was inspired by Jim's Active Rain blog:  MLSs attack for-sale home 'relisting' practicesCritics say relisting same property is deceptive; others call it useful … (5 comments)

active rain: Market Musings - 09/06/06 02:06 AM
By now, most agents and clients have accepted that we are in what is euphemistically called a Buyer's Market. Few real estate markets are not on that side of the equation, and many Rainers are offering great  solutions. It is early morning  in California (and oh so quiet so I can think) and I can't help but ponder all the opportunities in real estate.
The real estate market may be in a bloody stall, and some percentage of those exotic mortgages will wipe out. In some places, at some given time, there will be vacant foreclosures, short sales and precipitous declines in sales … (3 comments)

active rain: Link for the Day: Ice Rocket - 09/05/06 02:57 AM
I don't know if this has been posted before, but it is a very cool tool for searching blogs, myspace, telephone pics and other info. Active Rain members might be interested in searching their own names to see the results.

active rain: Active Rain Referrals via email - 09/04/06 03:09 PM
Like most of you, I have linked ActiveRain to my website(s) and other blogs. But it occurred to me that there might be equal value in adding a link to the end of my email signature, because no aforethought is required.  In this business, we are constantly sending emails to other agents, clients, lenders, inspectors and friends. Why not infect them with the Active Rain virus? (Just joking!). I now include this link in my signature:

You might wish to use your own link, though, which can be found in your My Home and Link to Active Rain page. If not, you are certainly free … (1 comments)
