We Like it on Top: The Top 7 Percent of Philadelphia Realtors, that is. - 08/31/10 02:14 PM
Check out the September issue of Philadelphia Magazine for your 2010 FIVE STAR: Real Estate Agents, the Somers Team. Philadelphia area consumers named us tops for Overall Satisfaction. FIVE STAR's awards are given to only 7 percent of professionals in a given industry and market area. It is such a great feeling and an honor to be rewarded, and we humbly thank our clients and peers for this recognition.
To qualify for this distinction, an agent must meet the criteria before moving on to an evaluation that calculates scores based on satisfaction of clients, peers and industry experts. We are thrilled … (12 comments)

Are you Ready for THE RAW TRUTH, Fishtown? - 08/27/10 09:22 AM
I received an eye-opening email from a native Fishtown woman. I will call her K. She was delightfully candid about a topic that has been nagging at her. I'd guess that her points are probably eating away at other folks that have lived in Fishtown for many, many years, particularly as they watch their tight-knit community become one of the "hot" Real Estate beds for homeowners to buy and RE investors to invest in.
K's comments were real and honest and much appreciated. After reading her email, I realized that what she was writing about was important. Really important and worth … (7 comments)

Who’s on 13th Street in Philadelphia? - 08/26/10 01:46 PM

What's to love about 13th Street? We can think of plenty, but it's nice to see that business owners Marcie Turney and Valerie Safran have turned it into a blog. We Love 13th Street is the blog's name, and it lists all of the inspiring duo's restaurants and shops. They have quite a few, so it makes sense for them to promote their destinations with one big love letter. Shall we count the ways?

Philadelphia Gone Wild - 08/25/10 10:51 AM
So the news in Philadelphia has taken a turn for the wild lately, and we're over here wondering what on earth could be next? First, there was that blogger tax controversy, and then a story about a mobile cupcake truck being confiscated by L&I.
Well, in this ode to the wacky, the bonkers, the absolutely wild, we'd like to point out a couple of crazy yet POSITIVE new happenings in our neck of the woods.
It's no secret that Philadelphians love their burgers just as much as we go cuckoo for cupcakes. It was just a matter of time before Piazza … (5 comments)

Behind Closed Doors at Poplar Estates - 08/23/10 09:04 AM

POPLAR ESTATES RESIDENTS TELL ALL What is going on in Poplar Estates? Well, we don't have any racy celeb bikini photos or a story about a shocking break-up that will shake Northern Liberties. We do have fresh interviews with condo owners at one of the neighborhood's hottest residences.
It is so common for Realtors to talk up their listings, the way that watercooler conversation can revolve around celebrity behavior. We talk about reality TV stars like we actually know them personally, but we don't. So it is easy for Joe Realtor to say that a home is amazing … (1 comments)

For the Love of All Things Sacred ! Does Self Promotion Have No Boundaries? - 08/21/10 08:25 AM
For the love of all things sacred ! Does self promotion have no boundaries ? Are there no limits to how far we will go to get our name out there?

For The Somers, as of lately, the answer to those questions is an obvious NO !  We have been shamefully and delightfully out of control with our self promotions and branding.  But believe me when I say that we do not take ourselves that seriously.  We are, quite frankly, just having a lot of fun.  Perhaps we are loving it a little too much but what the … (18 comments)

Those searching for a non-traditional remedy to whatever ails them can likely find friendly faces with natural solutions at one of the businesses along Girard Avenue. Philly's Peaceful Cleaning Company: Holistic Home - 08/18/10 10:36 AM
We all clean our homes with products that we find on supermarket shelves and we think nothing of reading the list of ingredients. Those of us who aim to buy earth-friendly products wonder if these safer products will work just as effectively. I recently brought home a "green" dishwasher liquid and found that it left my plates still caked with food. Gross, right? Needless to say, we went back to our regular cleaner.
Our new philosophy is that we will purchase friendly, safe products if they meet our standards. We worry about chemicals, but we want products that work.

Crossing the Line !  No Wonder "salesman" Has a Bad Rap !

In business, there is something to be said for being aggressive, having energy and zeal to go all out and conquer the world and your market.  I am all for that.  For without prospecting and asking for business, nothing will happen.
As a former financial consultant who did a lot of cold calling and reading a lot of scripts, I understand.  Sometimes I find it entertaining when I known I am being pitched from a script.   That being said, too often sales folks will take it too far with their pitch … (9 comments)

We're Getting Sauced at A Full Plate's Annual Rib Cook-Off - 08/13/10 10:23 AM
Come September, Northern Liberties begins to smell a little bit like Memphis. Barbecue smells bombard the air.
We blame A Full Plate's Annual Rib Cook-Off for the invasion.

It's a neighborhood that is quite proud of its smoky food: Folks dig in over saucy plates at El Camino Real on Liberties Walk, further down it's barbecue syrup being drizzled over waffles at A Full Plate, a rack of ribs at N. 3rd. Everyone gets in on the action, with vegetarians who have plenty of options, local restaurants who claim they do it best, and amateur BBQ-lovers who are convinced their … (3 comments)

More is Good...2 car parking is great, but 3 car parking is amazing. Size Matters...2900 sq feet to be exact - that is $185 per square foot. Compared to similar size properties in Northern Liberties, this is an amazing value. The average price per square foot for homes on the market right now (between $500-600K) is about 237/sq ft. - no other property offers this fantastic value and there is no association fee!

Too Big To Fail by Andrew Ross Sorkin - 08/08/10 09:19 AM

I just finished reading the 500 page book Too Big to Fail by Andrew Ross Sorkin.  I found it both fascinating with the play-by-play and behind the scenes insight from all the major players.  And I found it a little disturbing in that as things were falling apart, a lot of the major CEOs were either in denial about the prospects of their company or had no idea how dire the situation was.
As an avid CNBC watcher and stock market enthusiast I can recall a lot of the moments played out in the book.  But to have this behind … (7 comments)

Walnut Street's Shiny New Apple Store - 08/02/10 10:55 AM
We had to see it to believe it, but Philadelphia's first Apple Store opened on Friday and has been buzzing all weekend with both the curious and the devoted. The location on the 1600 block of Walnut Street will pull in many shoppers and also boost sidewalk traffic along Rittenhouse Row.
As you can see, the blue shirted Apple employees are on top of it, meaning that there was rarely a line to be seen on Saturday.

The spacious store has high ceilings and slick silver walls lined with Apple goodies. At the rear of the room, the Genius … (7 comments)

Where are the Photos ? No wonder the listing expired ! - 08/01/10 08:29 AM
Where are the photos ?  No wonder the listing expired !
Every week I comb through the numerous listings that have been expired or withdrawn.  The bulk of the expired listings will be at the end of the month as most agents will go out to the end of any given month for their listing contract.

What I find amazing (and appalling) is that a high percentage of these listings do not have any photos !  Where are they ?  I wonder if the seller even knows that their property was "marketed" for months without having any photos ?  This … (18 comments)
