Tip Jar: Let Master Keep You Under Lock and Key 24/7 - 06/29/12 06:12 AM
With all of this talk about Shades of Grey I thought this week's tip jar is apprpos.
I am admitting it. I am subject to a Master. My Master provides me with extreme strength, security, and protection 24/7. My Master does not use  a safe "word" but uses numbers instead. We change our code around periodically, you know,  to mix things up a bit. The Master certainly offers me the discipline that I lack like that time I locked myself out of my condo and that other time I locked my keys in the car. Duh! I am so forgetful.

N 2nd Street’s South Side Ghetto is Going…Going… - 06/28/12 06:53 AM

Looks like it's going to be gone! What a difference a year makes!
I was chatting with one of my Northern Liberties neighbors in my pilates class the other day. She, like many other of our neighbors, takes a real interest in our community. We often enjoy sharing news and info on things happening in the neighborhood before class starts. The other day she commented on how happy she was to see all of the changes that have transpired along the N 2nd street commercial corridor between Poplar and Spring Garden. "A lot has happened since your last blog post … (0 comments)

Meet Your Neighbor: At the Havana Room in Northern Liberties at North Shore - 06/27/12 05:54 AM

Seriously. If you find yourself in Northern Liberties with no lunch plans, dinner reservations, or no place to get your cocktail hour on, check out The Havana Room. If you are tired of the the same old "scene", or just looking for an outdoor venue this summer...just grab your neighbor, your friends, and head over to The Havana Room. They have a really good menu with fresh fish, meat, veggies and all at a decent price. You can sit under the sun shaded by the umbrellas on the patio or indoors, but the patio gets my vote. Check out your new … (1 comments)

Tip Jar: Take the Stairs for a Change - 06/21/12 07:53 AM
Take the stairs for a change.
I cannot count how many buyers have turned their nose up at homes that feature a center staircase. That is unfortunate because in Philadelphia, particularly in the older turn-of-the-century homes found in and around Center City, a center staircase is the prevalent design. The center staircase is often situated in the middle of the home dividing it in half separating the living room, parlor, or dining area from the kitchen which is typically located in the back of the house. The current modern trend favors one large open great room with nothing but furniture to … (2 comments)

Local Art in Full Blum - 06/20/12 07:08 AM

We recently received an email from local artist Nancy Blum with some exciting news:
"Many of you have wanted to live with my work but the labor involved in making it, renders it prohibitive - not to mention that it is generally larger than most homes can handle!  For some time, I have wanted to make something that my friends and colleagues could acquire and I am really pleased to present these two hand-printed and hand-colored etchings."  (Each etched image is 6” x 20” on both prints, although the paper surrounding is larger)
"My art practice is becoming ever more fulfilling - the large … (0 comments)

Calling All Philly Home Owners! Help Delay AVI Until 2014 - 06/18/12 12:26 PM
Calling all home owners! City Council voted to delay the implementation of AVI (the Actual Value Initiative) for one year.  Why is this so important? Delaying a year will let you their new assessments ahead of time and make rational financial plans to pay your taxes. It will let the Mayor and Council know what the city's real estate is really worth, and it will give Harrisburg time to pass enabling legislation needed to protect homeowners from extreme, financially ruinous increases. Council's final ratifying vote is this Thursday and you can support their action by filling out this form. Urge them to stay the course!

There is Something About Mary... - 06/17/12 06:16 AM
There is Something About Mary...

Mary Saseen that is!  When we were interviewing potential candidates for the assistant position for The Somers Team, Mary flat out said "Hire me.  I am the best for the job."  She was right.  She has been nothing but fantastic, full of energy and vigor.  She has helped The Somers go up a notch in customer service and production.
Further, when Mary sets her mind to something, you better watch out!  She just recently passed the real estate exam on her first try after taking online courses at home.   AWESOME!   I think she has a bright real … (3 comments)

REMAX Access Supports PYT, the Piazza, Northern Liberties and Philly - 06/16/12 05:57 AM

Tip Jar: Adopt a Bad Girl - 06/14/12 01:43 PM
It was one year ago today that we adopted the light of my life "BG" or "Beej" which is short (sort for Bad Girl). When we met she was just a little patchwork of fur that I could hold in one hand (see photo). I remember the day I saw her cute little face in a cage hanging out with with her orphan friends at Chic Petique in Liberties Walk. It was love at first sight. When we took her home she was so bad! She got into everything. Needless to say BG still lives up to her name today, that's for sure! … (5 comments)

Tip Jar: Qualify for Homeowner Tax Relief! - 06/07/12 10:56 AM
Today's tip is for the homeowners out there. We received an important email about tax relief from Representative Michael H. O'Brien and wanted to spread the word!
Last week, the Nutter administration announced that Philadelphia homeowners must apply for a homestead exemption by July 31 if they want to receive some relief from property tax hikes caused by his AVI plan.
The General Assembly is currently considering legislation (S.B. 1301) to provide Philadelphia homeowners with a Homestead Exemption, which may reduce real estate tax bills after the property reassessment process is completed.
Every Philadelphia homeowner should apply for this exemption!
To qualify for the … (1 comments)

Rum, Raisings, and Relics Sell Homes? - 06/01/12 08:34 AM
There are a lot of interesting customs and rituals that have been used by people all over the world to sell homes and provide good fortune to a home or homeowner. From the far East to West, apparently mustering up the mystical forces has been the go-to authority for hundreds, even thousands of years when it comes to Real Estate.
Did you know that in Jamaica, pouring 3 capfuls of Jamaican rum in the corner of the home before it is even built will ensure good fortune to the builders, the home, and the future homeowners. I wonder if Captain Morgan's has the … (2 comments)
