the somers team: Tip Jar: In Philly, You Gotta Tip - 04/21/11 12:07 PM
In this econpmy if you are eating out and enjoying life, you gotta tip 20%, no less. That's my opinion. A quick poll in my office of the first 10 people who would answer my question "When you are out at a restaurant, what would you tip?" revealed 80% said they'd tip 20% of the total tab. 20% said 10-15%, depending on the service. Of the 80% tippers, 30% said that 20% is a minimum and they are known to tip more for home delivery or in restaurants they frequent. I say "Way to go!" to the big tippers and "Boo!" (9 comments)

Full service bar. 12+ ft Jerusalem stone mantle with gas fireplace, bamboo flooring, recessed lighting, and powder room. This is going underground in style...it'll change the way you think of "the basement". $158/sq foot is a literal steal at 919 N Front Street B in Northern Liberties. the somers team: You Have a Date with a View on Top of 1137 Pine Street - 04/19/11 01:35 PM
1137 Pine Street, Unit 308 has one of our favorite views in the city from its rooftop deck. With 2 large sun-filled bedrooms, 1.5 baths, recessed lighting, galley-style kitchen, and office nook, this bi-level condo looks pretty cool on the inside, too, but we thought we'd focus on the outside for a minute! Check it out...

Well, the eco-friendly condo units sold quickly, not surprisingly, and there's only one left! And yes, it happens to have an amazing installation in the backyard. the somers team: Tip Jar: Where the Sun Don't Shine - 04/14/11 04:31 PM
Today is such a sunny day I thought It would be great to provide a few sun-kissed tips for today's Tip Jar: 1) When taking pictures inside or outside, the photographer should have the sun (or the brightest light source) to their back to create the most favorable photo shots. 2) Just because it is April and 70 degrees, don't think you won't burn in the sun. It takes only 20 minutes to burn so pull out the sunscreen and rub a little Coppertone on your nose, cheeks and shoulders. Hey, slather it all over if you know you will be (1 comments)
Today's spectacular property at 4716 Richmond Street in Bridesburg offers you that Hometown USA feel right here in urban Philadelphia. This is Where It's At: "Bridesburg is like an island" says the owner of this incredible 3 Bedroom 2.5 Bath luxury home. Bridesburg is the best kept secret just north of Port Richmond along the East side of the Delaware River. The neighborhood is made up of well maintained row homes, twins, and singles, neatly swept porches, green grassy yards, and friendly neighbors. There is an old fashioned barber, locally owner corner stores, and a small town sensibility that is truly (1 comments)
the somers team: Tip Jar: A Little Green Goes a Long Way - 04/07/11 12:40 PM
We love neutrals, grays, and blacks just as much as most fashion-savvy folk. Even a cloudy day can be irresistibly chic. But whenever we feel like something is missing, there's no pop or spirit in a room, on our plate, or outside a window -- we turn to green. A little green goes a long way. 1) Adding a green plant to a room can be the perfect finishing touch and will freshen the air. 2) Slipping in something green to every meal will improve your nutrition. 3) Replacing old fixtures, systems, bulbs and appliances with Energy Star rated versions will increase the (6 comments)
the somers team: Live Like "Real Housewives" at 2401 Pennsylvania Avenue - 04/06/11 02:26 PM
Imagine finishing work and then heading home to get work done. Oh, come on, everyone's doing it. We're talking about Botox. What does "getting a little bit done" have to do with the Philadelphian at 2401 Pennsylvania Avenue? Well, when our seller gave us the tour of this veritable fortress, we could not believe how many amenities are all located inside one enormous condo building. On a rainy day, you'd never have to leave. And if you wanted to sneak down to the spa for a quick lift or to nip those crow's feet, well, you could do so swiftly and (4 comments)
the somers team: Energy Star & EcoSmart at 1932 E. Arizona Street - 04/05/11 03:33 PM
1932 E. Arizona Street is a real deal...just check out how it stacks up to similar homes in the area of Fishtown and East Kensington. Although the concept homes are built with the philosophy of sustainable materials and are Leed Certified, many consumers looking to buy are just simply priced out of that market. Arizona is a great alternative...and has all Energy Star appliances, including a Fisher & Paykel Ecosmart Washer, Intuitive DGIX2 Dryer, LG French Door Refrigerator LFX25950, Asko Dishwasher D3350, Marvin Integrity Windows, and Trane 4TTR3 Split System AC - with extended warranties! I am an Alchemist when it comes to home finishings and home decor. I love to mix metals with gold tones and silver tones. Contrary to popular belief, this is not a designer No-No. In fact, when properly combined, mixing metal finishes can create a unique and eclectic style completely your own. For example, try using brushed or antique gold toned frames with brushed nickle and silver frames on a wall. Use throw pillows with a mix of metal ornaments. Try clustering gold and silver tabletop vases to create a metallic bouquet of sculptural elements. Gold tends to soften a (3 comments)
