Motivational Music From Martin Sexton's: Black Sheep - 03/31/10 03:23 PM

Every Sunday I make a habit of listening to the Mountain Stage program on my local public radio station 88.5 XPN.  I always end up becoming a fan of an artist that I had never heard of before.  This past week was a really great show.  I was blown away by Ruthie Foster. (Be careful, music is on autoplay and loud when you click the link.) What an incredible voice and talent!  I love soulful singers.  This last Sunday's show was packed with them.  The other artist that blew my mind (You've got to listen to this Mountain Stage show!) was Martin Sexton.  … (0 comments)

How Twitter Is Like FarmVille - 03/30/10 09:40 PM

I've got some friends who seem to be playing FarmVille way too much.  Their facebook wall is full of FarmVille announcements.  Their photo album full of Farmville screenshots.  Wayyyyy too much FarmVille.  If you love farmville, feel free to skip this. We probably all have one or more friends who compromise their professional reputation to the lure that is FarmVille. Sure, they may tell us it's their kids playing on their facebook account, but I'm not convinced.
This phenomenon got me thinking about how real time information can change or enhance an established impression of an individual. [...Click Here To Read The … (8 comments)

Pricing For Your Business: Problem or Prosperity? - 03/30/10 02:53 PM

**This Week's Show Is Featuring ActiveRain's Own Ashley Whittenberger**
This week's Get More Business Show will focus on the topic of pricing.  Want to see a blank stare?  Ask a business owner how they price their product or service.  Never has there been a less understood and more crucial business component than pricing.
In this changing market, are your products and/or services priced where they should be?  What should be considered when setting prices?  How can pricing be a proactive tool to help position your business for success? [...Click Here To Read The Rest On TVPG Radio]

Visualizing Your Business As Bigger Than It Actually Is - 03/30/10 01:08 PM

On this past week's Get More Business Show, we talked a little bit about starting a business and what you need to consider to not only be successful, but to grow your business and grow it fast.  We had an excellent example in our guest Adam Horning.
I won't recount everything that he said (Feel free to listen for yourself by using the player that appears below.), but one thing really stood out to me after our conversation.  From a very early stage, Adam Horning was thinking of his small landscaping business, Horning Landscaping as much bigger than it … (2 comments)

An Example Of Success In Business - 03/30/10 08:49 AM

As posted by Sheila O'Mara on TVPG Radio:
On Wednesday, March 24, the TVPG, Get More Business, Radio Show had a guest on the show.  Adam Horning was our guest and shared with us some of his techniques for taking a very small start up business in 2005, in a very crowded field, to company that made just shy of a million dollars last year.  Adam did a fabulous job not only adding revenue and also employees and that is great for him and his local economy.
Adam doesn't have a magic product and is very reasonable in his pricing … (2 comments)

Growing Your Business - 03/30/10 08:31 AM

As posted by Rich Bradley on TVPG Radio:
We had an interesting guest on our radio show (www.blogtalkradio.com/get-more-business) who gave us some insight into growing a business.
Ok, maybe I should choose a word other than "grow" since our guest - Adam Horning - owns a lawn-car business. The reason I think Adam's story is inspiring not just because he has managed to grow (there's that word again!) a business in these troubled times, but he's managed to do all this in a rather crowded, you-can-do-it-yourself business. Your Business Has A Master - 03/23/10 10:50 PM
Yeah, that's right.  Your business is a slave.  You may think your business is independent, but it's not.  It's reliant, dependent, yes...enslaved to any number of things.  I realized this during the TVPG Radio's Get More Business Show last week.  We had a cool little segment as a tie in to St. Patrick's day where we got to interview members of Sheila's networking group.  Because St. Patrick spent a significant amount of time as a slave during his youth, we wanted to ask those business owners [...Click To Read The Rest On TVPG Radio]

Details of Last Week's St. Patrick's Day Networking Special on TVPG Radio's Get More Business Show - 03/23/10 05:18 PM
As posted by Sheila O'Mara on TVPG Radio:
This week on the TVPG, Get More Business, Radio Show, we celebrated St. Patrick's Day.  We tied most of the topics from the show to our theme of St. Patty's Day and I was on location at my local Networking for Women in the Heartland Luncheon at the Schmidt Coca-Cola Museum in Elizabethtown, KY.
As you may or may not know, St. Patrick was at one time a slave.  We asked local business owners from Elizabethtown what, if anything, they felt they were a slave to in their business.  I know for me … (0 comments)

iPhone Application Review: Momento - Social Media Indexing Plus A Better Diary - 03/22/10 10:02 PM

I decided purchase the Momento App for my iPhone about a month ago in an attempt to keep a record of my progress towards my business goals, and just life in general. In fact Momento's primary function is as a journal or diary. What sold me on the app though, was a description of it's social media integration features. [Click Here To Read The Rest On IdeaBox]

Top 5 Considerations When Joining a Business Networking Group - 03/19/10 10:02 AM

The face of business networking is changing.  There's so many more options today than there were even 5 years ago.  Businesses are facing the choice of dedicating their time and resources to traditional networking ideas or newer technology based solutions.  The answer to this question will vary from business to business based on the business itself and the characteristics of it's particular industry, the comfort level and skill set of the person in charge of networking, and the goals of the business.
With so many variables and choices, I thought it would be helpful to put together a list … (6 comments)

Defining The Brand - Is it your company or you? - 03/19/10 09:46 AM
As posted by Rich Bradley on TVPG Radio:
We very briefly touched on a subject on this past week's radio show that I wanted to explore a bit more deeply.
The question asked if are you your company. In other words, is your brand is defined by you or your company?
Interesting question. And, like so many questions in the business world [...Click Here To Read The Rest On TVPG Radio]

Thoughts On What Makes Good Content, Josh's Ideas, and More - 03/16/10 09:07 AM
I made this video to follow up on the radio show from 03-10-10. This is my chance to share what I think makes good online content (because we ran out of time on the show). I also share my take on some of the ideas that were put forward by Josh last week about Measured Impact, my charitable social media project. And there's a teaser about next week’s radio show.
Check out the players for last week's show and this week's show below. The player for this week's show won't be active until after the show goes live on Wednesday March … (6 comments)

Specialization or Diversification - Which Is Right For Your Business? - 03/16/10 08:35 AM
As posted by Rich Bradley on TVPG Radio:
On this week's radio show, we touched on the subject of diversification vs. specialization. While we weren't to come to a conclusion favoring one or the other, we were at least able to reach a consensus that it really depends on a number of factors, and that each business has to decide which is right for itself.
In our discussion, we brought up some recent examples of [...Click Here To Read The Rest On TVPG Radio]

Volunteer To Grow Your Business - 03/16/10 08:04 AM

As posted by Sheila O'Mara on TVPG Radio:
You are struggling with capital for advertising and need to get your message out.  You use all of the social media tools you can think of, but can't seem to grab a hold of local consumers. Sound familiar?   It is a common problem for many small business owners and there are a few ways to pick up a bigger market share and save money in the meantime. Tweetie VS. Twitterrific VS. Twittelator - Which Is The Perfect Twitter App? - 03/13/10 10:13 PM

To follow up on an earlier post that i wrote asserting that the future of twitter is mobile, I thought it would be helpful to do a comparison of the top three premium (not free) twitter applications. Since using twitter on your mobile device is the best way to get a benefit out of the platform without sacrificing your schedule's other obligations, a lot of people want to know which twitter application would be best for them to use.  Some are definately better than others.
In this blog post I review Tweetie 2, Twitterific Premium, and Twittelator Pro.  They all … (6 comments)

The Future of Twitter is Mobile - 03/09/10 11:11 PM

Because of some research I’m doing for tomorrow’s Get More Business Show on the topic of Social Media, I’ve been surprised to read recently written articles by prominent (although cremudgenly) authors desparaging Twitter and the idea of instant unrestricted communication.
I don’t expect everyone to jump on the twitter bandwagon, but I honestly thought I wouldn’t be reading any more of those articles.  Twitter isn’t an infant anymore. [...Click Here To Read The Rest On IdeaBox]

Social Media and Your Business, Diversification VS. Specialization, and Jason VS. Josh - 03/09/10 02:08 PM

Just in case you forgot to mark your calendars,  it's that time of the week again. Time for the Get More Business Show!  This week's show is going to be all about social media.  Yes, the social media topic gets beat into the ground a lot, but with this show we want to take the road less traveled and give our audience some specific guidelines that we use to shape our own social media activities.
A common mistake that we make is to approach social media as a broadcast platform and overlook the two way communication vehicle that exists to … (6 comments)

Will Measured Impact really work well on the basis of Twitter Popularity? - 03/09/10 08:32 AM
After being largely silent on the topic during last week's radio show, my Co-Host Josh Chandler came out with this zinger is his blog post this week about Measured Impact on the TVPG Radio blog:
On last Wednesday's live broadcast of "Get More Business" Jason Sanders discussed his charitable initiative "Measured Impact".
The idea in principle would be to help promote charities to those on Twitter with high follower numbers (in the Twitter Top 100) and in turn get a direct conversion to help the selected charity.
Now, this idea did spark a reaction from me (and it wasn't a good … (0 comments)

Publicity For Free - It Is Possible! - 03/06/10 11:27 PM
As Posted By Sheila O'Mara on TVPG Radio:
This week's TVPG, Get More Business, Radio Show revolved around two topics that are near and dear to my heart - volunteerism and Free Publicity.  Is it possible for the two to intertwine?
You bet!  As a matter of fact, I have built the majority of my business on the basic "how to get free publicity" principles.  As a very small business starting out, I had very little budget for advertising so I felt the need to get very creative with my marketing.  Honestly I relied heavily on my volunteering opportunities to help … (4 comments)

Who Is My Target Audience? - 03/04/10 09:41 PM

A couple of weeks ago I wrote a blog post about knowing who benefits from your business’ solutions.  I wanted to take this opportunity to back up a little bit and lay some groundwork for those of you who are just starting your business, or those who for whatever reason have not yet taken the time to focus on this type of idea.
If you’ve taken any kind of basic marketing course, you have probably been told that you need to focus your marketing efforts on your “Target Audience”.  One of the most important questions you can ask yourself when … (4 comments)

Dr. Angela Guerrera’s Medical Relief Mission To Haiti With The Cooper Hospital Team - 03/03/10 03:57 PM

During today's Get More Business Show, we were talking about Volunteerism and how it can fit into an overall marketing strategy for your business and how it is a great way to draw a positive spotlight to your business or cause.  As a coincidence, my sister in law, Angela Guerrera who is a fourth year resident at Cooper University Hospital recently got back from a medical relief mission to Haiti.  The experience was really incredible for her and our family is really proud of her and the work that she accomplished there.  Because time didn't really allow for me to get … (0 comments)

You Had Me At FREE Publicity - 03/02/10 10:10 PM

OK! It's that time of the week again.  Time for the Get More Business Show!  When we were organizing this week's show and Rich put forward this idea about how to get free publicity for your business, I knew we had a winner!  He went on to get into a detailing of 10 distinct ways to accomplish this goal, but I have to confess that my eyes were already glazed over.  Symphany music was playing in my brain.  I was running through hills of [...Click To Read The Rest On TVPG Radio]

Thoughts on The ReLaunch Show and The New Format - 03/01/10 07:10 PM
I have to say I couldn't be happier with the results of our first show (The ReLaunch Show) in the new format.  As I listened to the podcast of the program, after the show had wrapped (You too can listen to the podcast by using the player that sits above the sidebar.), I couldn't help but feel vindicated.  I might be a little bit biased, ok I'll just go ahead and admit I'm biased, but the show was fun to listen to.  My three co-hosts, Rich, Sheila, and Josh did just what I expected them to: Unabashedly share their unique perspectives … (2 comments)
