I'm not a songwriter, but I've always admired those who could combines words and music in a way that could grab me, cause an emotional response and create images and thoughts in my mind. I have to admit that I was one who has thought that anybody can create a song and at one point even tried to write The Song myself. However, it quickly became painfully evident that writing a song that will have lasting (or even fleeting) value to others is really, really difficult to do. Because of the broadcast of his international concerts on local PBS TV in the Delaware Valley, Andre Rieu and his Johann Strauss Orchestra is fairly well known and popular in the region. Because of the rain in Philadelphia today, the 2007 Mummers New Year's Day Parade will be postponed until January 6 (Saturday), starting at 9am. Everyone from the Philadelphia and the Delaware Valley area knows that New Year's Day is the time for the annual Philadelphia Mummers New Year's Day Parade. Mummers and the annual Mummers Parade are unique to Philadelphia. I know of nothing like it anywhere else. Their sight and sound are distinctive. Adults in elaborate customes march and strut through Philadelphia streets, many while playing instruments, to entertain us and welcome in the new year. On advantage living in South Jersey is the access we have to major music and comedy concerts and entertainment in Atlantic City. Often, you may have several choices in a week or even several on the same day. This goes on all year long.For example, my son and I decided to attend the recent Trans-Siberian Orchestra concert at the Atlantic City Boardwalk Hall, formerly the original Convention Hall, that has been upgraded for modern performances.
