Tiger Woods Wins Unprecedented 3rd World Match Play Championship

The juggernaut that goes by the name of Tiger Woods graced the fairways of Dove Mountain this week.  Coming away with a record 3rd Championship in the Accenture World Match Play series, he has won every event he has entered this year so far.  While people will undoubtedled ask him over and over again about the possibility of an undefeated season, it matters only to the statisticians, as he is proving yet again that he is the best player the game has ever produced.
Records fall like dominos in regular order … (3 comments)

Tucson Dirt Track Racing Update: Littrell Racing #88 SuperStock - 02/24/08 09:47 AM
Update:  Littrell Racing's #88 SuperStock Practice Session  Many people stopped by to read and comment the previous time I wrote about Littrell Racing's #88 SuperStock entry in the coming dirt track season.  On behalf of the team, thank you for your interest.
This Saturday was the first practice session...a chance to see how well the plans and hard work had come together, what tweaks need to be made & to get a feel for how this car will perform.
Aside from needing a larger radiator to combat overheating challenges the car performed  better than expected.  The engine is truly a beast!  … (0 comments)

If There's A Recession On---Why Are There So Many Cash Buyers Right Now? - 02/23/08 10:06 AM
Driving to the office the other day, bored with the usual morning chatterboxes, I was surfing the old radio dial when I ran across a local guy talking with great vehemence about the "economic idiots" spewing doom & gloom at every opportunity.
He went on to castigate expert after expert, refuting their findings without a whole lot of supporting evidence to back up his alternate opinion...until the callers started chiming in.
Call after call was a business owner or manager talking about how business wasn't booming, but was steady and strong.  I was beginning to think that he had stacked the … (50 comments)

Nascar & Daytona Means One Thing: Local Stocks Will Be Running Soon! - 02/20/08 08:40 AM
Nascar has begun its season which means the local stock car series will begin soon!  Tucson boasts both a clay track and a paved raceway, owned by separate entities--which means there will be plenty of racing to enjoy!
Once again I am proud to be a crew member and sponsor of the Littrell Racing Team, which will debut its newest SuperStock entry at the first meeting March 15 at USA Dirt Track.
There are high hopes for the #88 entry, as this is a brand new car from theground up, the only exception being last year's motor, which is a beast!  Wait 'til this baby hits the track!

Solar Powered Device Charger--That Actually Works! SOLIO - 02/18/08 09:59 PM
I was speaking with an old friend from my ski-bum days in Colorado a little while ago.  While reliving past adventures and telling tall tales about new ones, he told me about the neatest little charger that he had tried out while guiding a float trip for some clients (he's a fly-fishing guide par excellence!).  It is called a Solio.
The charger is solar-powered and folds up neatly, taking very little space (4.7 x 1.3 x 2.5 in), weighs less than half a pound, can charge a cell phone, mp3 player, digital camera, or other devices...or charge it up & it will … (0 comments)

Roger Clemens & Dorian Gray - 02/15/08 08:15 AM
Well, the Congressional hearings into steroid use in baseball grind on like so many dentists drills with half the promise of results.  Roger Clemens has dug himself into a deep 3-2 hole and his best pitches are looking more and more like the efforts of someone desperately trying to convince his date that he really was a big star at Podunk Jr. High, and his date isn't buying it.
When the Mitchell report first came out, I was skeptical about its merit, but jaded enough about drug use in sports that I just nodded my head thinking, "we all know they're … (11 comments)

Best Of Timesaving Tips & Devices - 02/14/08 09:30 PM
The other day when I read Darci Lambert's post about Jott, I took a moment to stop and reflect about how many timesaving tips and devices people share on Active Rain.  It must number into the thousands of ways that folks have taken the time to enlighten others about.
To honor the sharing spirit and enable others to save time by listing our favorites in one spot, I thought I'd put a few of my favorites here.  Please feel free to add your own "Best Of" faves in your comments...the list is only as good as we make it.

From The Mouths Of Children... - 02/12/08 10:37 PM
Lately, I've been burning the candle at both ends, which I enjoy, but I have to work hard at taking a moment to enjoy what is going on around me.  Standing in line at the convenience store to pay for my gas (irritated because the outside credit card swipe wouldn't work), growing impatient because the first person in line wrote a check, starting to get exasperated because the person in front of me had to go out to their car to get more money to pay for their purchase (geez, I have something productive to do...hurry up!)...a little girl behind me … (6 comments)

Local Lender Makes Good Radio - 02/12/08 08:57 AM
Yesterday I had the pleasure of being a guest on a local radio program, Prime Talk, hosted by Mark Ross, the President of Prime Capital Mortgage every Monday during afternoon drive time.  Mark invited me to come on so that we could discuss First-Time Homebuyers.  Mark Ross - Loan Guru &            Radio StarHe has been doing Prime Talk for quite some time now, and does a great job with his show (which I would expect from knowing his professionalism in the mortgage business).  Mark has been gracious enough to allow PSAs from one of the association committees we are on to … (2 comments)

Is That A Cat In My Wall? Or are you just happy to see me?!?! - 02/11/08 11:26 PM
Just the other day in my office, I was floored to hear one of the agents talking about an incident during a final walk-thru at a new subdivision in our area.
It seems that all during their inspection, the buyer kept hearing a faint mewling sound, but couldn't identify where it was coming from.  Fearing it was a kitten trapped on the roof or lost somewhere outside, she spent an hour looking everywhere for the poor little thing:  nothing.  zip.  nada.
Frustrated, she went back inside to see if it could be spotted on the roof from the 2nd floor.  No … (7 comments)

A New Form Of Redlining? - 02/06/08 10:58 AM
With the trend of lenders rating or categorizing specific towns, cities and counties, could this be a new form of redlining?  Countrywide, GMAC and others are using a rating system to rank areas as "soft," "declining" or other ways to categorize "risky" places to lend money.
In these areas, a higher down payment is usually required, higher interest rates may be charged and more requirements to be met in order to secure a loan.  In general, the demographics for these locales show lower income averages, higher numbers of minority residents and other factors that lead some critics to label this practice as redlining.  There … (9 comments)

Spring Training Starts In A Week!!! - 02/05/08 08:34 PM
...."Take me out to the baaalll game!"
Its that time of year folks - the smack of leather as the ball hits the glove, the crack of a real wooden bat, the smell of springtime in Arizona!  8 days until pitchers and catchers report to camp.  Spring Training is almost here.  Time to put aside grudges and the media frenzies, the romance and intrigue of trying to "make it to the show" brings hope, dreams and the desire to work harder to reach a goal to the kid in all of us.
In Tucson, we are lucky to still have 3 teams as … (6 comments)
