FDIC Owns $1.8 Billion In Real Estate - 11/17/09 06:37 AM
In early 2008, work on the project slowed, Ms. Jeffries recalls. People started asking for their money back, "and the builders weren't giving it to them," she says. In her office, located in the basement of a model home, she started receiving calls from disgruntled subcontractors complaining they hadn't been paid. She says one unhappy supplier repossessed Quantum's construction trailer, which still contained file cabinets with records of potential buyers.

Rental Property Scams - 11/10/09 06:49 AM
ALERT: Rental Property Scams
Some months ago, we published an alert in the TAR DIGEST about listed properties for sale being fraudulently advertised as rental properties ....WITHOUT the knowledge of either the property owners or listing brokers. The scam artist then obtains (and absconds with) rental deposits and/or first one or two months' rent. For a more complete picture of how the scam works, the FBI now has an explanatory page -- with MUCH more information -- on their website HERE.
RENTALS.COM recently posted a Consumer Alert on its website, regarding the same scam, HERE.

Housing Market Buoyed By $300 BILLION In Government Aid: CBO - 11/05/09 06:13 AM
A new report from the Congressional Budget Office attempts to put a number on the amount of money the government has poured into the housing market. Considering the complexities associated with the bailout of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, this actually isn't as easy as it sounds. But, the final -- and rather disturbing -- tally for 2009 is $300 billion.Read more at: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/11/04/housing-market-buoyed-by-_n_345613.html?igoogle=1&cp
