activerain: Top Spots in WA - 06/04/07 06:31 AM
This last weekend I got to meet ARDELL, Rich and Mark for the first time, well in person that is. ARDELL had to point out that she is coming up close to knocking me off the 3rd spot as she climbs to the top of the WA list. No worries because I'm not in this for the points and many people are probably tired of seeing my ugly mug on the top of list anyways.
I have been away from AR due to other office duties, growing a business doesn't lend itself to blogging like a physco just to get points. … (7 comments)

activerain: Seattle ActiveRain June 2nd - 05/14/07 09:16 AM
I recieved an email from Matt this last week about an ActiveRain get together on June 2nd. After search the network I didn't come across any info, maybe because I've been pretty busy on other project to blog and engage.
After double checking the email there wasn't anymore information like time or location but if Matt or Caleb wanna fill us in on the location and time that would be sweetness!! Anyhoo gotta run and do some work :)

activerain: Featured Post Moderation Possible Solution - 03/04/07 11:27 AM
In my last post, Featured Post Moderators, I voiced my frustration regarding the blogs being selected as Featured Posts for the ActiveRain homepage. The four paragraph post received a lot of comments that supported the moderators for their efforts and shared the same frustration I had. After reviewing all the comments there were six major themes that developed.
There has been no feedback for the moderatorsThere are no guidelines for moderatorsThe time moderators put in is highThe quality of the posts vary and lately there hasn't been to many great posts to choose fromThe Featured Post are given to a variety of contributors (old and new)This is … (44 comments)

activerain: Featured Post Moderators - 03/01/07 07:41 PM
As I spend more and more time on ActiveRain I wonder who is in control of featuring posts. This is not a rant of why my posts aren't being featured but the ever decreasing quality and un originality of posts that appear on the homepage. There seems to be no quality control over the posts and some to seem blantent advertisements of services and websites.
My knowledge has led me to believe that the ActiveRain gang has employed (for lack of a better word) people to help feature posts. This is a good thing IMO because it frees their time for more … (112 comments)

activerain: Dashboard Changes - 02/05/07 05:14 PM
I haven't been breezing around ActiveRain like it the past few months but some new information was just made aware to me that I feel that is worthly of an address. The Dashboard has been the subject of some "mass" debate and for me I have been wondering what is all the fuss about.
Orginally the dashboard was to feature bloggers that contribute regularly, provide quality and rich content and are a worth reading. After talking to the Rain Gods and reading their posts I learned that the dashboard was a complex algorithm that can't (or very difficult) to scew. But it … (6 comments)

activerain: Localism: Some questions to ponder - 12/30/06 10:41 AM
Ever since I read that images can be uploaded directly to Localism.com I have been getting started so i could gain a few points and create more content that is attached to my name but as I was doing that a few questions popped in my mind.
1. What is the danger of duplicate content? I was looking over the article of mine and thought what Google's perception of seeing the same article in two different places might be. Could there possibly be some sort of penalty? Not sure but I do remember reading an article my Mary McKnight saying she posts the … (9 comments)

activerain: Kirkland ActiveRain Wrap-Up - 12/20/06 05:27 AM
Last night the Kirkland ActiveRain was held at the Wilde Rover and what a night for the history books. Arriving at 6:10 or so I was surprised to see Matt, James, Barry and Devon in full stride and talking like old pals and I still felt if I was wondering around with the "I am looking for friends" expression on my face. As luck would have I jumped right into the conversation and shortly after Caleb showed up and we had a nice group going. Mark wasn't able to show because of work (I hate when work gets in the way … (6 comments)

activerain: Kirkland ActiveRain Update - 12/17/06 04:10 PM
Anyone who lives in the Northwest knows that the last couple days and even still have been a tad crazy. Thursday night we had a second storm roll in with fierce winds and lots of rain that really doesn't happen to often in the Northwest. The storm came in around 2:00pm on Thursday, just before the Seattle Seahawks game, and just dropped rain, rain and more rain. During the game the wind came in and it blew like crazy and power started going out all over Seattle, the East Side and Snohomish County. My power just came on this morning along … (17 comments)

activerain: Snow Gods, Sun Gods and Rain Gods? - 11/09/06 11:46 AM
Growing up in Washington there are three Gods that people pray to on a regular basis, Snow Gods, Sun Gods and the Rain Gods. In the Northwest, there are many people who worship the Sun Gods because the bright object in the day can disappear for months. The Rain Gods make their present felt in our lives here and lately they made an huge showing, must have been a rally in Washington or something. But we snow freaks frequently pay homage to the Snow Gods so they bring the steep and deep.
For me, the Snow Gods are my preferred Gods and every … (2 comments)

activerain: Active Rain Pushes More Updates - 10/22/06 11:51 AM
The latest upgrade I have seen is the MyHome section of a users profile. It is nice to see the break down of blog posts, comments (made and recieved) and how many G-stars I have recieved. I like it.
Also there are major updates when it comes to the state homepage, example WA Profile Page. If you noticed on the left hand side there are links to Information, News & Events, Market Reports and Blogged Listings. These categories are a result of an expanded categories found at the bottom bottom of a post before it published. these updgrades should help bloggers target their … (9 comments)

activerain: First ActiveRain - 10/12/06 06:05 AM
Well last night I made my way over to Buckely's to meet up with Matt, Caleb and James. Fortunately for me I missed Matt's post on the crowd while everyone else waited to hear from the gang.
As I walked up to the front door, there were two gentlemen that looked familiar sitting outside but I proceeded to walk in the door. After looking around for a few minutes, feeling a tad stupid, I walked back outside and up to the people that looked familiar. I was like "are you Matt", and the response was "yeeasss" with that look when someone thinks they … (10 comments)

activerain: ActiveClock? - 10/09/06 02:32 PM
As anyone else noticed there isn't a clock on the ActiveRain network? It may seem like a stupid thing to discuss but as a blogger I am always wondering at what time my blogs are posted and when I can post again.
If my memory searves me correctly, the ActiveRainers servers are on Mountain Time. Being on Pacific Standard Time my post times are always behind the actual posting time. It comes into play when I am having writer moments and thoughts are just wanting to spu out my fingertips. I looked early and it showed me posting three blogs today but … (12 comments)

activerain: Wikipedia - 10/04/06 07:39 AM
Wikipedia has finally found out about ActiveRain, Wikipedia & ActiveRain. I only found out about this because of an alert I setup on another blog sometime ago on Leanne Paynter's Blog, Wikipedia and Real Estate. It seems that the AR network is on a continuing quest for world domination and with the support of its 6500 + members it just maybe possible. Has anyone else stumbled upon AR and its influences out in the internet?
Being here for sometime now, I have seen the network evolve, grow and update. It will be exciting to watch the next few years unfold in the network. … (10 comments)

activerain: The WA Race - 09/22/06 03:38 PM
Over this last week there has been a huge shake up in race for the top three spots in Washington. Ben, Karen and Mark have caught the fever and blogging bug in order to keep and move up on the Washington rankings. I think it was spurred on by the geo-targeting of the AR homepage.
But have they forgot who is in fourth? I don't think so. Ben called me a [spoiler], Washington's Stealth Race, when it comes to the top spot position. Yea, I might spoil there fun but that is cool, I don't mind.
Over the past week the top positions … (7 comments)

activerain: Use of Images in ActiveRain - 08/31/06 08:28 AM
In recent weeks photos have a been a source of attention, reaction in the ActiveRain blogisphere. These range from improper hosting, stealing and hosting. I am all for using images but there are some things that need to be thought of before random posting of images in blogs and comments.
1. If images are going to be use then make sure they are hosted correctly on image hosting company like Photobucket.com or your own servers. I recommended Photobucket.com in my Customizing Profile Blog because there are members on the AR network without their own website. I use my Advanced Access website to host all my images so bandwidth … (6 comments)

activerain: Search Engine Ranking Position - 08/30/06 11:45 AM
Yesterday while I was assisting Chris King on his ActiveRain profile he asked me a great question and one I did not have an immediate answer to.
"If I search for real estate profiles/agents where is [ActiveRain] going to show up?"
At first, my answer was: Well this is a fairly new network but it has highly targeted titles, descriptions and keywords that will, overtime, increase the position of the network, pages and profiles. But then I got to thinking...what is the actual ranking? So Chris and I went to Google and did some key phrases that I target for our real … (4 comments)
