Tennesseans shatter early voting record - 07/31/12 06:18 PM
326,876 Tennesseans voted early or absentee by mail, easily beating the previous record for an election in August during a presidential year. The previous record was in August 2008 which was 217,441.
Early voting ceased on Saturday. The election is going to be held on Thursday.
Comparing elections with the same or similar elections on the ballot is important because that can affect turnout. For example, the November presidential election is expected to have a higher turnout. The United Way in Cannon and Rutherford Counties just got another "seal of approval" from the United Way Worldwide organization for finishing 13 membership requirements set forth to make them in good standing with the international organization for 2012.
2012 marks the 3rd year in a row that United Way has earned this, by the international organization.
