Fannie Mae charges buyer $150 for a re-key prior to closing - 02/08/11 06:30 PM
I see in the Fannie Mae purchase contract that Fannie Mae will re-key the home and charge the buyer to do so. We are near closing and I now see the charge is $150. I would rather have the re-key handled by the buyers, or since the door hardware will be changing during remodel, a re-key is not really necessary. Has anyone seen proof that Fannie Mae actually did the re-key and has anyone successfully stopped them from doing it? (4 comments)

About a year ago I had several rental listings posted on Craigslist which were copied by a scammer in Nigeria. They were advertised at half the rate I had posted, so they caught the eye of quite a few people. His story was quite compelling about how he was the owner of the home and rather than have it sit vacant, just wanted someone good to take care of his place. He even used my photos, and my name in parts (2 comments)
Choice of escrow and title companies in foreclosure sales is really no choice at all - 02/07/11 01:59 AM
With the Buyer's Choice Act (Assembly Bill 957), buyers are supposed to be protected in foreclosure transactions by being allowed a choice of their own escrow and title company. While buyers themselves might not actually have a preference, an experienced buyer's agent will know which escrow companies and officers give the best service and price, and which title companies have comprehensive insurance. But the bank ends up winning this battle, since they say the buyer has a choice, but then the seller will not pay the owner's title insurance or half the escrow amount. So with the cost of this services being $1500-2500, (0 comments)
