tony and suzanne marriott: The Most Satisfying Things About Our Role As Brokers - 02/27/17 07:04 AM
This our entry for the February 2017 Challenge: What I Love About My Job sponsored by Liz and Bill Spear.

There are many things to love about our role as real estate brokers.

No more flying roundtrip 2 or 3 times per week domestic and international for Corporate America
No daily commute to a bricks and mortar office (unless you count the journey from the kitchen to our home offices)
No 9am to 5pm schedule - which in real life when you are salaried equates sometimes to 24/7
Those are some of the reasons we decided to exit Corporate American and enter the real estate arena.

So what have we … (16 comments)

tony and suzanne marriott: Are You A Groupie? - 02/19/17 03:46 AM
As of a few minutes ago there are 7,409 "groups" on Active Rain.

Not sure if "private" groups are included in that tally.

I haven't visited all of them (needless to say) but I did do a search using the word "drone".

I found one group.

A total of 6 posts.

Both authors are no longer Active in the 'Rain.

I was considering creating a group for "Aerial Photography and Videography".

Now, I'm not so sure...

tony and suzanne marriott: “Mostly Sunny” or “Partly Cloudy”? - 02/19/17 03:13 AM
Checking the weather forecast at weather.com this morning I see that we are expecting more rain today, but then the sun comes out starting Monday.  I did notice something on the 10 day forecast.

Wednesday and the following Monday are forecast to be "Mostly Sunny".

Next Sunday is forecast to be "Partly Cloudy".

So what is the difference between the two terms?

There is a scientific difference between the two terms - if you want to read the article click here - the bottom line - "about 1 to 4 oktas".

Looking past the scientific answer, personally I would always use "Mostly Sunny" versus "Partly … (4 comments)

tony and suzanne marriott: Reliable Imprint Vendor - 02/18/17 06:51 AM
It's always a challenge to identify great vendors for a variety of needs that would be difficult, if not impossible, to oneself.

One such vendor we selected after significant research is 4imprint.

They specialize in promotional products.  Two of the key criteria we used in selecting them for our needs were their policies about FREE artwork and Low Price GUARANTEE:

Absolutely FREE professional art assistance.
You get FREE logo prep and design help on every item we sell – you don’t need to do the work yourself – we’ll do it for you! Whether you’d just like your logo on a product, or you’d like … (6 comments)

tony and suzanne marriott: Some Thoughts On The Active Rain Q&A... - 02/18/17 06:28 AM

Some of us remember the brouhaha last year when non-real estate related questions were being deleted without explanation from the Q&A.

That event unfortunately spiraled out of control, with a couple of long time members launching a personal attack on the "deleter", resulting in their "banishment" from the 'Rain.

Since that time I personally have focused on ONLY asking real estate related questions (when I happen to ask a question), but I have noticed that the Q&A is drifting away from the "real estate related only" directive, making me wonder if that directive has changed, or whether we are just seeing some natural … (19 comments)

tony and suzanne marriott: Some Thoughts On Reblogging... - 02/18/17 05:06 AM
Some of us do, some of us don't.

Either is of course completely OK.

I'm one that does.

Re-blog that is.

Why do I do it?

Primarily to highlight a post that resonates with me, and that I think should get the additional exposure.

It's my way of "Featuring" that post.

Many members who visit the re-blog leave a comment along the lines of "Thanks for re-blogging - missed this the first time around - heading over to the original to comment".

Why do I do it consistently?

Daily.

Sometimes more than one per day.

It's part of my Active Rain routine.

First stop on my daily Active Rain tour is usually Q&A.

tony and suzanne marriott: Talk To Me! - 02/17/17 06:08 AM
If you are planning on obtaining your FAA Part 107 Remote UAS license, and planning to fly a drone for commercial purposes (for example - aerial real estate photography), sooner or later you will encounter a location you want to "shoot" that falls within airspace requiring a waiver or "COA" from the FAA - and - once that has been received - you will need to notify Air Traffic Control (ATC) prior to and at the completion of your flight.

Rather than searching for a phone number for the control tower, and calling them by phone, IMHO you would be far better … (12 comments)

tony and suzanne marriott: The Importance Of Prioritization - 02/17/17 03:44 AM

All of us find many different items on our "to do" list.

Some sequential - one item must be completed before another item can be completed.

Some can occur simultaneously - particularly those which involve providing information to a 3rd party provider who takes that information and produces the "result" we are seeking while we tackle other items on the list.

Some are conflicting - totally separate items competing for immediate attention.

That's where prioritization comes in.

How do we determine which of the competing items has priority?

Prioritization Matrices (plural of Matrix) abound on the web - Six Sigma makes wide use of them.

But it … (14 comments)

tony and suzanne marriott: Two Of Our Favorites! - 02/12/17 10:00 AM
This is our entry for the February Active Rain Contest "What Tools or Systems Do You Love - An ActiveRain Contest" sponsored by ACTIVERAIN CONTESTS.

Suzanne is the "editor in chief" of our aerial photography and videos, and in order to accomplish that relies heavily on two of her favorites:

Adobe Creative Cloud

  and

Lynda.com

First, Adobe Creative Cloud.  That's the workhorse for the editing.  The specific programs used include:

Adobe Premiere Pro
"Make visually stunning videos virtually anywhere."
"With the industry-leading video editing software, you can edit virtually any type of media in its native format and create professional productions with brilliant color for film, TV, and web."

tony and suzanne marriott: Some Thoughts On Expired Listings... - 02/12/17 06:34 AM
Typically (but not always) Expired Listings expire due to the market rejecting the list price.

When inviting the owner(s) of an Expired Listing to use your services as their Listing Broker, once you have ruled out any other reason (except price) the Expired Listing did not sell the last time around, it's time to determine how serious they are about Selling their home.  Period.

Question for the Owner(s):
How did you determine the previous list price?
Typical answers:
Our agent suggested it
I/We decided that was the right price
It reflects how much we paid for it
It reflects how much we have put into it
It reflects what we … (38 comments)

tony and suzanne marriott: Establishing An Ancillary Business - Sunlit Drones, LLC - 02/12/17 05:40 AM
Ancillary Business.

Definition:

Definition of ancillary activity: Business or non-trade activity that is not associated with the core activities of a firm.

In this case, aerial photography, primarily to take aerial photography and videography of our own single family residential real estate listings, but with the potential to assist other associates at our brokerage, and possibly other real estate agents outside of our brokerage.

It also has the potential to operate in other vertical markets where aerial imaging is very useful, such as golf course maintenance, and other "inspection" type activities.

The decision was made in the first week of December to move forward.

tony and suzanne marriott: Introducing The DJI Osmo+ - 02/12/17 05:23 AM

I asked a question in the 'Rain yesterday, as I often do, this time asking if any fellow member had experience with the DJI Osmo+.

I was surprised to see that very few had encountered this camera so far - but then again - before December 1, 2016 - I had not either!

The main features highlighted on the DJI site include:
22-77mm zoom lens, 3.5× optical and 2× digital lossless zoom.
4K video, 12 megapixel photos, silent recording.
Professional 3-axis stabilization.
Support for motion timelapse, panorama, long exposure and more.
Timelapse is an interesting aspect that can be integrated into twilight exterior shots of residential real … (12 comments)
