Realtor Board Is A Great Way To Market - 01/21/11 05:38 PM
I've been a member of LIBOR for just about a year now and while annual dues are a bit expensive its a great way to mix and mingle with your potential clients. As a home stager I find it's important to focus my marketing efforts towards Realtors, they are repeat clients and really it's a win win for all parties involved.  I know many of my colleagues are resistant to try and get business from Realtors or they just give up too soon!
If your going to become an affaliate membor of an association like the Long Island Board of Realtors, you need … (5 comments)

When redesigning or staging a home adding tons of different fabrics is an easy way to add richness to a space. Check out Kimo's blog to get some tips on what type of fabric you like to use.
Via Kimo Stowell - Real Estate Merchandiser (JDS Consulting: Hawaii Home Staging and Decor Design):

Light Your Way to SOLD - 01/18/11 10:39 PM
Lighting is so important as Janice mentions in her blog below. I recently staged a home that had half of their vanity bulbs in the bathroom out. It was an easy fix to shed some light in that room, but definately take a que from Janice blog to learn how to light other spaces around your home.
Via Janice Ankrett ASP (Janice Ankrett Home Staging):
We are all influenced by the amount of light in a room, especially on a dreary day.
We feel so much better with lots of natural light flooding in.

Driving with Style to Washington, DC! - 01/18/11 10:34 PM
I came across this post, which looks all too familiar! This is what home stagers sacrifice their vehicles time and time again as we deliver and pick up staging belongings. Mannie is lucky she has an SUV, but I have a Mazda 3 and am thinking about investing in another vehicle.
I had the thought of upgrading to a Mazda CX9, but I'm wondering if buying a van would be worth it? Do any of you use a "work van" to travel back and forth to clients. I was also thinking about wrapping my car with my logo and other information, … (0 comments)

Liven Up A Boring Space - 01/17/11 10:45 PM
The holiday decorations are all put away and if you find yourself looking at the same 4-boring walls day in and day out, saying how can I update my space to get me inspired again, well then these tips will motivate you!

Not every home has those positive features like grand fireplaces, built-in shelves, or great fixtures many come as boxy rooms with no personality. You can easily make them over with do it yourself projects by adding paneling, crown molding or even using pre-made shelving or bookcases to make one wall your organizational center. For a dramatic change cut foam board to size … (3 comments)

Out With Old - 01/17/11 10:40 PM
Putting everything in its place can be a daunting task for many. When visiting client's homes during home staging/redesign consultations I usually find their belonging thrown haphazardly around their space, creating a cluttered mess.
Decluttering a home is part of the home staging/redesign process, and we can all benefit from taking on a few organizational tasks to make our home and work space feel functional and less-stressed.
These are the tips I share with clients to cut clutter and get them on the right track to organizational bliss:
When trying to decide on whether an item stays or goes ask yourself: Do I use it? … (2 comments)

Home improvement: Handyman or tradesman? - 01/13/11 11:18 PM
As I try and build my preferred vendor list on my website, as well as building a team for home staging projects this year. This is a good start to show the difference between professions.
Do you work with a team of people? Who are they and how have you incorporated them into your business?
Via Gabe Sanders, Stuart Florida Real Estate (Premier Realty Group):
To keep home improvement costs at a reasonable level, you have decisions to make.

Voicemail Etiquette - 01/13/11 10:11 PM
My answering machine on my business phone stopped working the other day, so I had to buy a new one and that got me thinking about the voicemail message I leave. For the past year, I wasn't exactly truth on the message I directed callers to my website where they could find more information and pricing, but my pricing isn't listed on my website www.stylishstagers.com .
I came across this blog and took some pointers before re-voicing my message. If your voicemail doesn't follow these pointers than it's time to hit the delete button and start all over.

Feature This... STAGING TIP No. 26,731 - SMART ART! - 01/10/11 01:30 PM
I'm loving creating my own artwork for spaces, but sometimes it can be hard trying to come up with what to paint. I cam across this blog post from Feature This and using exsiting photos can be a great way to decorate your walls and is a simple solution to having what I like to call "painter's block."

Orange you Glad to have Active Rain? Making a Realtor Presentation Relevant - 01/10/11 01:14 PM
I'm updating my Realtor Presentation and came across this blog post from Leslie Olsen, she really prepares you and thinks of everything when getting ready to present.

Special thank-you tulips for the AR community!
As a relative newcomer to Northern California, it's important for me to present my staging business, Leslie Olson Interiors, to Realtors face-to-face. Green I can AFFORD!!! - 01/06/11 04:58 PM
With NYC's latest snow and garbage removal crisis, I noticed just how much garbage my street collects in just 2 weeks, my home especially. While we try and recycle, I saw many people in my area who just don't. Cardboard boxes in with food grinds, milk jugs and other canned goods in with a watery substance stuffed in bags, not sorted. Where do these people think this stuff goes?
Then I came across this blog from Jennifer Marks and she is right, green living isn't the cheapest thing to afford, but we can all do our part to live a little greener with … (1 comments)

2011 Housing Market Outlook via Barbara Corcoran - 01/06/11 04:41 PM
See it's not just home stagers trying to sell you our services, what comes out of most of our mouths are pure facts.
When selling your home, presentation which means staging your home is just as important as price and marketing. I can't wait for the day when home staging in the public eye becomes as crucial as getting a home inspection or appraisal.
I would take Barbara Corcoran's advice in Kathy's blog and say, if you are selling a home in 2011, Stage It First!

Cool Calorie Tool - 01/06/11 04:02 PM
Alright, counting calories can drive anyone nuts. Hmm, maybe I want nuts now! I'm one to write what I eat down daily in a food journal but measuring and counting calories just isn't my thing, until I started using this cool tool on my phone.
The Calorie Counter is the essential BlackBerry application for people who want to keep track of their food, exercise and weight and be able to sync and access all their information online at FatSecret.com.
It's great because you don't have to remember the calories it's in there for you and adds up your total calories everyday along with … (2 comments)

Revamp Your Pillow Inventory for ZERO Dollars!!! - 01/04/11 10:43 PM
I'm excited to say that **reusing**  will be a project on my to do list this year! I came across Connie Tebyani's post a few months back and while I thought this way a great idea and easy solution to update your pillow inventory, I didn't quite have the capability of making new pillow cases.
So, in the meantime, I was trying to purchase already made pillow cases at IKEA, Target and other places to change up my themes. Which can get costly...

Better Than a New Box of Crayons! Sherwin-Williams 2011 Color Forecast - 01/03/11 10:04 PM
Home staging isn't just about using tan & white to lighten and brighten a space. Buyers are onto the old home staging tricks and are looking for something more to entice them to open up their wallets.
Now, I'm not saying go out and paint each room a different bold color. But using this Sherwin-Williams 2011 Color Forecast originally posted by Kathy Streib has alot of diversity to choose from.
Use these palettes not only on your wallets (in moderation) but add these colors with pillows, throws, artwork and other accessories to attract the buyer's eye.
