Real Estate is Local, but How Local? - 06/27/09 01:05 AM
We have all heard or used the phrase, "Real Estate is Local".  I am in 100% agreement on that.  After reading a recent article on companies that still manufacture goods in the US and also export to other countries it got me thinking.  How local is local when you are talking about the entire world?
Easy answer, local is the USA.  What if, we as agents made a commitment to only buy USA made products whenever possible.  It may be more local than you think.  If every agent participated, think of how much that would stimulate the economy. You may be buying a … (4 comments)

Buying a home in a heat wave - 06/25/09 03:26 PM
Just a quick note to all the agents with listings (hopefully everyone).  Here in the South is has been unseasonably warm.  A quick start to the summer.  What does this have to do with real estate and listings?  If you list a home and the owners no longer live there, it is best they leave the utilities on.  Of course this does not apply to foreclosures.
The amount of energy a home uses while vacant is very minimal if you set the thermostat correctly and turn off the lights.  I showed three homes today and two of the homes had the utilities … (4 comments)

What is Hiding in the Bushes? - 06/23/09 11:14 PM
Okay people, snakes don't bother me but this one would make me scream like a little girl.  A friend of mine sent me the photo that was taken last week on a golf course in Greer, S.C. .  All I know is it is an Eastern Diamond Back Rattle Snake.

Update:  The picture is starting to circulate around the web and I have learned the snake weighs 97 lbs and is the largest Eastern Rattle Snake ever discovered!

More to Life than Real Estate - 06/23/09 10:55 PM
Okay, I am usually ranting and raving about something in real estate but tonight is different.  As most of you know real estate agents don't truly get to make their own schedules and therefore I do not watch a lot of television.  I am a sucker for the talent programs however.  You can set your DVR and watch it when you want and not have to follow a story line.  I watched America's Got Talent tonight.  I haven't watched it before but I think all of the publicity surrounding Susan Boyle on the British version made me tune in.
If you … (3 comments)

Professional or Not - 06/22/09 01:17 PM
I wrote a blog many moons ago about real estate agent photos.  The photos I am referring to are the ones that agents put on their businees cards or mailers. (not photos such as you find on social sites like this one).
I recently saw a photo of an agent that I knew and I called her to tell her there were flyers with her name but someone else's picture.  She told me it was her high school photo.  This is a woman in her late 40's.  I ask her why she did that and she said she thought it would … (9 comments)

Good and Bad at the same time - 06/22/09 12:56 PM
I am assuming that everybody else is like me in that your clients are probably calling like crazy every time they announce a new federal program to help people purchase homes.  Tax credit, tax credit as down payment, first time home buyer program, tax credit for any home buyer, etc.
The more information they release they less we know.  I have to tell clients that I know as little as they do.  The press releases need to be held back until they have a program in place and ready to launch.  All of the rumors are doing more harm than good.  … (0 comments)

Here's your one chance Fancy....... - 06/02/09 12:00 AM
I will keep this quick and simple.  Here is your chance to provide input (that will actually get consideration) on what you would like to see from a real estate company as an agent.  I own my own company and I am always looking at ways to make it better for my agents.  I wish you all could come work for me but as we know that is not possible your input could be beneficial to other agents that do work for me.  Post your thoughts (serious ones) and thank you for participating.

General Warranty, NOT! - 06/01/09 11:40 PM
I recently read a very good article detailing the differences between a general warranty deed and a special warranty deed.  The article was written by a real estate attorney.  After describing the two he went on to give his opinion.  His opinion was that agents are not necessarily helping their client by accepting a special warranty deed when negotiating a foreclosure.
While in theory this may be correct but in the real world, do we have a choice?  If you say yes, then I have to ask, Have you tried it?  I have.  The result?  My client ended up with a … (0 comments)
