Residential distribution customers with active accounts on February 1, 2010 will receive a one-time bill credit of $100 on their February 2010 BGE bill.
In October 2009, the Maryland Public Service Commission approved EDF's acquisition of a 49.99% interest in Constellation Energy's existing nuclear facilities subject to certain conditions. One of the conditions requires Constellation Energy to fund a one-time per customer distribution rate credit for BGE's residential customers before the end of March 2010, totaling $110.5 million, which would provide each residential customer with a rate credit of approximately $100. Each residential customer with an active account on February 1, 2010 will automatically receive a one-time $100 credit on their account.
Customers do not have to take any action. Residential customers receiving both gas and electric service from BGE under a single account number will only get a single $100 rate credit. The credit will appear on BGE residential customer bills issued after February 1, 2010. We anticipate that the majority of customers will receive the $100 credit on their BGE bill by the end of February 2010. The credit will be applied to the entire bill and will apply to the various charges in the same way as any other payment. Any remaining credit amounts will be applied to future bills until the full $100 has been applied.
Frequently Asked Questions:
1. Who is eligible to receive the credit?
Customers who have active residential distribution accounts on 2/1/10 will receive the credit.
2. What if I move within BGE's service area?
If you move out of BGE's service area or no longer have a BGE distribution account on 2/1/10, you will not receive the credit. Only those residential distribution customers with an active account on 2/1/10 will receive the credit.
3. What if I move out of BGE's service area prior to 2/1/10?
If you move out of BGE's service area or no longer have a BGE distribution account on 2/1/10, you will not receive the credit. Only those residential distribution customers with an active account on 2/1/10 will receive the credit.
4. Do I have to purchase my supply from BGE to receive the credit?
No. BGE is your distribution company. As long as you are a residential customer with an active account on 2/1/10, you can choose any licensed, qualified energy supplier to supply your electricity or gas and still get the credit.
5. How much is the credit?
$100
6. Can I ask for a refund check instead of a bill credit?
No, the credit will apply to your February bill and reduce your balance until used up.
7. How will the credit impact my bill?
The credit will reduce your bill as if it were a regular payment. If there is any credit remaining, it will reduce future bills until used up.
8. If my bill is less than $100, will the credit carry over to the next month?
Yes. The credit will carry over to the next bill as if it were a payment.
9. How will the credit impact my budget billing?
The credit will just reduce the amount you have to pay on your February bill as if it were a regular payment. If there is any credit remaining, it will continue to apply to future bills as if payments were made until the credit is used up. The credit will not change your monthly Budget Billing amount.
10. Will a customer whose start date is the day after 2/1/10 still receive the credit?
No. The credit will only be applied to residential distribution customer accounts that are active on 2/1/10.
11. What if I don't get a bill in February? When will I get the credit?
The credit will appear on the first bill that you receive on or after February 1st, whenever that is.
12. Will customers get a credit for gas and a credit for electric?
No. Residential customers receiving both gas and electric service from BGE under a single account number will only get a single $100 rate credit.
