Showing Great-Grandpa How We Do Summer In Texas - 06/30/12 07:18 PM
It's been a special weekend here!
The last time my grandfather made the trip to Dallas, I was 27 years old and about to get married.  A lot has changed since 2002.  I'm now 36 years old, a real estate agent in Highland Village, TX, wife, and mother to three beautiful and uniquely different children.
And here he is enjoying time with the younger generations of a legacy he has helped create.

It seemed only fitting that my youngest took one of his first true steps toward his great-grandpa while we were enjoying swimming at the Castlewood community pool. … (2 comments)

4th Of July Parade In Castlewood - 06/29/12 09:51 PM
The 4th of July.  Independence.  Freedom.  Spitting watermelon seeds.
Maybe only in Castlewood in Highland Village, TX does that make sense.

Last year, my daughter pictured here in mid-spit, was the winner of the watermelon seed spitting contest.  I am one proud mama!
The annual 4th of July parade is quickly approaching!  Bring down your trikes, bikes, wagons, scooters or another preferred mode of transportation at 9 am on Wednesday, July 4th to the Castlewood clubhouse to decorate your wheels in red, white and blue.  There's breakfast for everyone and plenty of flags, streamers, temporary tattoos and fun … (6 comments)

A Blog About A Wedding At Diamond Oaks Country Club - 06/29/12 09:02 PM
My husband and I had the pleasure of attending a Thursday night wedding at the beautiful Diamond Oaks Country Club in Fort Worth Texas.
You know you're getting used to the Texas summer when it's 98 in the shade and you think it's not too bad!  The setting at Diamond Oaks Country Club is gorgeous.  Majestic oaks, lush greens and fairways and a beautiful bride to set the tone.  And the tone of the wedding was vintage Southern charm meets church worship service.  It was so simple but so detail-specific. The bride even had satin buttons from her mother and … (0 comments)

The Flour Shop, Highland Village TX - 06/27/12 09:13 PM
As with so many great small-business success stories in America, the idea of The Flour Shop was made from scratch many years ago.
I love to support local businesses and am embarrassed to say that I've never visited The Flour Shop at The Shops of Highland Village.  Maybe it's because I've worked so hard the last six months to drop that baby weight.  Or, more likely, I don't need another sweet treat to make my mouth water at the thought of the deliciousness!

Unless you've been living under a rock the past few years, you'd know that cupcakes … (0 comments)

When Life Gives You Lemons In Castlewood... - 06/26/12 08:50 PM
Make Lemonade of course!

I asked one of my dear friends if she and her kids wanted to meet us at the pool but she told me that they were out on Castlewood Blvd. selling lemonade.  If there's one thing that Castlewood has in it, it's budding entrepreneurs.  Especially during the summer, lemonade stands can be seen on many a street corners.  In fact, my own daughter sold two paintings for $3 to our neighbors :)
These cuties aren't just pocketing the money they make.  Instead, they were selling lemonade as part of a fundraising effort for a local vacation … (7 comments)

The Nosey Dog, Flower Mound TX - 06/26/12 07:10 AM
Did you know that in 2011, American households spent almost $51 BILLION in the pet-related industry which would include food, collars, toys, grooming and specialty items?
One of my clients told me about her part-time job at this local dog boutique called The Nosey Dog.  I haven't had the pleasure of visiting The Nosey Dog in Flower Mound, TX yet but I figured, a day without my kids was a perfect time to visit.

I walked in and didn't expect to see Barb (the lovely lady on the left) but the friendly face was there to greet me!

Highland Village Police Rescued My 2-Year-Old! - 06/25/12 09:01 PM
Officer Pittinger with the butter knife in the bathroom.  That's ultimately what was used to pry open the bathroom door that my naked two year old son locked while I was trying to get him to go potty.

I'm a little embarrassed that this is the second post about my naked son in the past few days but hey, it's summer and he's a sweaty beast!  We had just gotten back from the Castlewood pool in Highland Village, TX and it was shower time but the little man needed to use the potty.  He needed some privacy and then locked … (9 comments)

Castlewood Pool - 06/24/12 09:00 PM
It's the time of year when the 100 degree days are starting to sneak into our lives and the only way to stay cool is either inside or at the local pool.
We don't have a pool at our home...too much work...so we take advantage of the pool at in Castlewood in Highland Village.  You need your pool card if you are a resident to enter in through the security gate.  The hours of operation are 10 am-10 pm and there's even free WiFi to take advantage of.
The best part, in my opinion, is the covered wading pool for the … (0 comments)

CAUTION...NUDE PHOTOS! - 06/23/12 08:48 PM
Isn't this what summer is all about?!

Image was blurred to protect the innocent.
Our sprinklers in Castlewood Highland Village, TX are always on when we return from church Saturday nights.  The perfect time to disrobe and run around the same way he entered the world!

Lone Star Quarters Auction - 06/22/12 09:00 PM
A few weeks ago I got an invitation to the Lone Star Quarters Auction by by networking partners Penny Mather and Jamie Moore for a quarter auction.  They said it's the opportunity for participants to walk away with products and fun items with high retail value for one to six quarters.

Wait, what?!  Oh yeah this is my kind of party!
Lone Star Quarters Auction is a fantastic group of entrepreneurs and business women who want to bring the power of networking, community and charity together all rolled into one fabulous event. It's a combination of bingo, a silent … (0 comments)

Castlewood Playground - 06/20/12 08:36 PM
How do you take on long summer days with kids?
You take them to your community playground!

Last year, the Castlewood playground in Highland Village, TX had a makeover which resulted in new goodies to climb up, on and around.  These molded "tires" are a favorite of my son Beckett and he's an unspecting victim of a photo hijack by me!
The Castlewood playground really is a great place to spend afternoons or evenings.  The playground is completely tree covered which means protection from that hot summer sun.  Two bucket swings for the babies are a good add making this … (0 comments)

You Can Grow Fruit In Texas! - 06/18/12 08:46 PM
And my son is holding the living proof!

My husband has been cultivating our garden at our home in Highland Village, TX for a few years now and it's not only been a labor of love but it's been fruitful...ha ha ha.
We started with a dwarf orange tree and got a few oranges the first year and then last year, it was pretty much destroyed from our horrendous summer.  Our garden has been a favorite spot for local squirrels and bunnies which is why we have trained our dogs to run out when they hear the code word "McGregor" … (7 comments)

Business Spotlight: Donut Palace - 06/17/12 08:21 PM
Business Spotlight: Donut Palace Flower Mound

Who doesn't love donuts?  We usually get donuts on special occasions, like say, Father's Day!  I loaded my three children into the car this morning while my husband slept and made our way to Donut Palace in Flower Mound, TX.
It doesn't matter what day of the week you walk into Donut Palace, you are warmly greeted with a smile and a friendly hello.  Then there's that familiar smell.  I don't know if it's the glaze or the sugar or the oil or maybe it's a combination of all three but that smell is so recognizable and … (3 comments)

I'm Tired Of Celebrating Holidays - 06/15/12 02:32 PM
I need to brush up on my lesser-known holidays like Flag Day.  It was yesterday.  I will proudly display my flag and am so happy to have the opportunity to do so.  But, at this time in my life, I think I will start celebrating those poor days throughout the year that are neglected and play second fiddle to the biggies like Easter and Thanksgiving.

Won't you join me in taking part in some of these spectacular reason to pause and give thanks or take action?  Hey, maybe a postcard to your sphere is in order!  Enjoy a new holiday … (2 comments)

Before You Trim Your Trees... - 06/14/12 08:57 PM
There are certain things I won't trim myself.  My hair is one of them and my trees are another.  My husband on the other hand, is bald, and shaves his own head and he's also not afraid to take a saw to our gorgeous trees.  I actually think I hear the trees scream when he comes out to "take a little off the top".

OK, maybe that last part was a little exaggerated but if you don't know what you're doing, you can do a lot of damage.  This is our prized "Blackjack Oak"  in the front yard of … (6 comments)

Are You In A Networking Group? - 06/11/12 02:33 PM
About two and a half years ago, I was invited by two different people to join an industry-exclusive networking group.  I would be the only real estate agent in the group which sounded like a good place for me to meet like-minded business professionals who truly take pride in helping others succeed.
Premier Network Group is a tight-knit mix of small business owners and entrepreneurs that live and serve clients and customers throughout Denton County.  With 35 members and growing, this is a bunch of people that I really like seeing.  This is a very visible and active membership.  We have … (4 comments)

Why Buy Local-Gary Charlton Motors - 06/08/12 08:52 PM
It's unfortunate that real estate agents are often times referred to as "used car salesman".  I certainly don't appreciate that reference but imagine how a salesman of pre-owned cars feels!  This is what my mind tells me a used car salesman looks like...if you can name the movie you get a cookie!

I happen to know one and can tell you from first-hand experience that there's no one I would trust more to handle my car needs than Gary Charlton and the staff at Gary Charlton Motors.  Heeeeere's Gary!

My husband and I have bought and sold two cars … (0 comments)

Chicks Dig It... - 06/07/12 08:28 PM
And Guys Do Too!
That's the tag line for a fun, ecclectic and unique boutique in Highland Village, TX.  I went into this store a few years ago and enjoyed what they had back then.  A friend of mine gave me a gift certificate to Chicks Dig It for my birthday and since I'm participating in the 30 blogs in 30 days contest, I thought what a great excuse to make a return visit.
Before you even walk into the store, you can tell it's going to be special.  I think it may only apply to Texans because, who outside of … (3 comments)

Your Local Wine Shop in Bartonville, TX - 06/06/12 08:58 PM
Jesus turned water into wine and therefore, we enjoy the fruits of His labor. As we say in the South, Yes and Amen!
We came across Grapes to Wine a year ago when our dear friends introduced us to the great, local wine shop so close to home.  Dan and Hazel Adams are the owners of Grapes to Wine in Bartonville, TX and we couldn't be happier with such a quality local wine shop with a great selection of wines from regions around the world.

Dan recently retired from a career in the golf industry to take a love of … (2 comments)

Burgers & Brats-A Place For Outstanding Grub! - 06/05/12 08:52 PM
We aren't a family that eats out a lot but we definitely have the places we frequent.  As a parent of three children, you look for restaurants that offer kid-friendly options at a good price, fast service and a place that won't be bothered by a few extra crumbs on the ground.
I have driven past Burgers & Brats for years.  I have to be honest that places in that location hadn't done well in the past so I figured it wouldn't be around long.  We decided to give it a try after a friend recommended them and said that their … (2 comments)

Cotton Patch Cafe in Flower Mound, TX - 06/04/12 08:33 PM
While we were building our house in Highland Village, TX during 2004, there weren't many restaurants to choose from close by.  We enjoyed the service and of course, the food.
Last Christmas, I received an email from the mom of a classmate of my daughter's asking for any and all hands on deck to help support a cause that was near and dear to her heart.  Pathways is a Texas-based non-profit social services organization dedicated to creating environments where children and families thrive. They provide a wide array of social services including adoption, foster care, counseling, therapy and other in-home services.

This Is Where I Spend Saturday Nights - 06/03/12 02:22 PM
When we moved from one suburb of Dallas to Highland Village in the fall of 2004, our little town was just that.  We had only a handful of restaurants to choose from and the Super Target shopping center was the place to be.  We still had quite a few roots planted in Carrollton but wanted to embrace our new community.

We were still traveling 40 minutes to our church across town but that quickly changed when our first child was born.  Our former Sunday School teacher recommended we try The Village Church in Flower Mound, TX to hear this young, … (2 comments)

An All-Inclusive Farmer's Market in Lewisville, TX - 06/02/12 08:35 PM
You know summer has started when you see Farmer's Markets popping up all across town.
This Farmer's Market is a little different as it operates for the community all year long!  Garden Ridge Farmer's Market in Lewisville, Texas is not your average Farmer's Market.  Of course you get the local produce like peaches from East Texas and farm-fresh zucchini, but how about fresh made salsa, local Texas honey and vanilla and grass-fed beef?

They have a wide variety of shrubs, plants and hanging baskets, pottery, organic and gluten-free selections and German-inspired deli meats.  But Tricia, you say, it's summer and … (3 comments)

I'm Sick of These Scams!!! Renters Beware!! - 06/01/12 09:59 PM

I am always amazed at the gall of some people.  This isn't the first time that one of my rental listings has been hacked and placed on a third-party site in an effort to rip others off.
I have a townhome for lease in Plano, TX for $1350 a month.  The owners just happened to go to the house yesterday and found a woman walking around the outside looking in the windows.  She explained to them that she was looking to rent the house for $500 a month and a $400 deposit.  Then she showed them this email correspondence:

Meet Miss Stacy, Our Favorite Bus Driver! - 06/01/12 03:39 PM
I consider us extremely lucky for many reasons.  But how about this...every morning at 7:02 am, Miss Stacy driving the "turtle" bus makes a stop right here in front of our house.  I get the traditional morning wave from the mother of five (crazy that she still wants to drive a bus!) with her hat on and precise and cautious way down Buckingham Lane in Highland Village, TX.
This is a picture from my daughter's first day of kindergarten two years ago.  Red lights flashing, stop sign out, the doors open.  Miss Stacy welcomes the riders by name which is amazing … (2 comments)
