castlewood highland village: Annual Easter Egg Hunt in Castlewood - 04/10/14 08:22 AM
My kids make me laugh with some of the things that come out of their mouths.  So when my four year old says that Easter is about candy, I quickly remind him that it's about Jesus.  "And candy".
Fair enough.  The annual Easter Egg Hunt in Castlewood of Highland Village, Texas is just one of the great events put on by our HOA.  Not only are there eggs to be collected, but crafts, pictures with E.B., snacks and the Boogie Woogie Choo-Choo.
If you plan to attend, please bring a dozen filled eggs per child participating to the Clubhouse by … (1 comments)

castlewood highland village: Why Community Is Important - 03/03/14 10:00 PM
Notice that the title of this blog post is not "Why Is Community Important?"
To me, the idea of community is not something we question as important.  Having community, and not just being part of a community, IS important.  My husband and I are hurdling towards a decade in our house in Castlewood in Highland Village, TX, which I just can't believe.

We moved here when we were fresh-faced newlyweds with dreams of life in a new place.  Raising kids, teaching them to ride bikes and schleping those same kids to soccer games, were visions in my head as … (3 comments)

castlewood highland village: Blind Wine Tasting This Friday in Castlewood Highland Village - 02/26/14 07:11 AM
Babysitter?  Check.  Husband?  Check.  Wine?  Check and double check.
This Friday, February 28th at 7:00 pm, the residents of Castlewood in Highland Village will stroll on over to the annual blind wine tasting put on by the homeowner's association in the Clubhouse.  With various meats, cheeses, specialty treats prepared by fabulous residents and desserts for all to share, this event is always a good time.
Bring a bottle of red or white wine to "donate" to the group.  Each bottle will be wrapped up in a paper bag and placed on a table for each person to try.  Did you taste … (1 comments)

castlewood highland village: Back To School Party in Castlewood Highland Village, TX - 08/23/13 02:32 AM
As a resident of Castlewood in Highland Village, TX, your annual HOA dues go for more than just "management fees".
Castlewood is, in my humble opinion, the best neighborhood in Highland Village.  This quaint community is vibrant, active and has an outstanding board of directors and volunteers that put on fun and exciting activities for its residents.
The Back to School party is a way to bid farewell to summer (at least by the school year starting, not the temperatures!) with friends and fun.  Hang out at the pool under the fancy shmancy new pavillion, eat pizza and snow cones, and … (0 comments)

castlewood highland village: Mosquito Spraying in Castlewood, Highland Village, TX - 08/16/13 06:13 AM
As I was driving through the streets of my neighborhood, Castlewood, in Highland Village, TX this afternoon, I noticed these signs all over the place.

A few weeks ago, I did notice a sign like this in a small section of Castlewood but it was just one and that was the location of the trap to capture those nasty creatures.  So, of course I had to call and find out what the story was about mosquito spraying in Highland Village.
I spoke with Angela who was very nice and quite helpful.  Turns out that there WAS a positive test for … (0 comments)

castlewood highland village: Annual Easter Egg Hunt at Castlewood - 03/19/13 03:41 PM
There are so many great events in my neighborhood, Castlewood, in Highland Village, Texas.  I'm not sure if it's the first sign of spring or the smile on my kid's faces sprinting to get those eggs but the annual Easter egg hunt is my favorite.
This Saturday, March 23 at 1:30 pm at the Castlewood Clubhouse is this year's Easter egg hunt.  With fun activities, crafts and maybe even a visit from EB himself, it's certainly an event you shouldn't miss.  See you Saturday!

castlewood highland village: Fun For Everyone At the Castlewood Parade! - 07/04/12 07:34 AM
Fun was had by young and old and everyone in between at this year's Castlewood 4th of July parade in Highland Village, Texas.
The morning started with donuts and bananas topped with sprinkles inside the cool, air conditioned Clubhouse.  After your fill of sugar, it was time to head outside and decorate bikes, trikes and wagons in traditional patriotic flair.  Participants were able to choose from bunting, streamers, flags and buttons.

When everyone was ready to go, Officer Peterson from the Highland Village Police Department led everyone through the streets of Castlewood while onlookers cheered.

After the parade, … (4 comments)

castlewood highland village: Showing Great-Grandpa How We Do Summer In Texas - 06/30/12 12:18 PM
It's been a special weekend here!
The last time my grandfather made the trip to Dallas, I was 27 years old and about to get married.  A lot has changed since 2002.  I'm now 36 years old, a real estate agent in Highland Village, TX, wife, and mother to three beautiful and uniquely different children.
And here he is enjoying time with the younger generations of a legacy he has helped create.

It seemed only fitting that my youngest took one of his first true steps toward his great-grandpa while we were enjoying swimming at the Castlewood community pool. … (2 comments)

castlewood highland village: 4th Of July Parade In Castlewood - 06/29/12 02:51 PM
The 4th of July.  Independence.  Freedom.  Spitting watermelon seeds.
Maybe only in Castlewood in Highland Village, TX does that make sense.

Last year, my daughter pictured here in mid-spit, was the winner of the watermelon seed spitting contest.  I am one proud mama!
The annual 4th of July parade is quickly approaching!  Bring down your trikes, bikes, wagons, scooters or another preferred mode of transportation at 9 am on Wednesday, July 4th to the Castlewood clubhouse to decorate your wheels in red, white and blue.  There's breakfast for everyone and plenty of flags, streamers, temporary tattoos and fun … (6 comments)

castlewood highland village: When Life Gives You Lemons In Castlewood... - 06/26/12 01:50 PM
Make Lemonade of course!

I asked one of my dear friends if she and her kids wanted to meet us at the pool but she told me that they were out on Castlewood Blvd. selling lemonade.  If there's one thing that Castlewood has in it, it's budding entrepreneurs.  Especially during the summer, lemonade stands can be seen on many a street corners.  In fact, my own daughter sold two paintings for $3 to our neighbors :)
These cuties aren't just pocketing the money they make.  Instead, they were selling lemonade as part of a fundraising effort for a local vacation … (7 comments)

castlewood highland village: Castlewood Pool - 06/24/12 02:00 PM
It's the time of year when the 100 degree days are starting to sneak into our lives and the only way to stay cool is either inside or at the local pool.
We don't have a pool at our home...too much work...so we take advantage of the pool at in Castlewood in Highland Village.  You need your pool card if you are a resident to enter in through the security gate.  The hours of operation are 10 am-10 pm and there's even free WiFi to take advantage of.
The best part, in my opinion, is the covered wading pool for the … (0 comments)
