WORK - As Viewed By God - 02/29/08 08:05 AM
Our men's prayer group that meets for breakfast two Saturdays a month have been studying a book by R. Kent Hughes titled "Disciplines of a Godly Man" and it has been a wonderful encouragement for me. The chapter we're discussing for March is on the "Discipline of Work" and after reading and re-reading it I have realized how important our work is to God. There are three passages in the Bible that we all need to read and ponder each day: 1 Cor. 10:31 So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of

Outside Blogs Anyone - 02/29/08 05:57 AM
I've been hearing a lot lately about outside blogs. My first question, being a newbie to the blog scene, is what is an outside blog? I'm guessing this means a blog outside of Activerain but not sure. My second question is if you have an outside blog where do you go to get one and do you post the same content on both (I guess that's two questions rolled into one)? A third question is how do you drive traffic to either blog? Questions, questions,..... I am just starting and would like advice from anyone willing to help. Real estate is

First Time Homebuyer Clinic? - 02/28/08 04:03 PM
A blog with a question for consumers. A thought crossed my mind the other day after writing a blog article for first time home-buyers, would it be beneficial to offer a clinic or classes to people seeking more information on buying a home for the first time? The clinic would feature: 1. Loan Officer To explain the many different types of financing available, process for preapproval, steps to secure a mortgage, etc. 2. Real Estate Agent To help them understand the search process, making offers, negotiating, relationships, contracts, and a host of other things we do. 3. Home Inspector Give information on what they cover in a

When To Buy Your First Home? - 02/27/08 04:28 AM
I meet many people who have been renting and are wondering when is the best time to start their search for a new home. Here are some guidelines and things to think about before you begin. 1. Down Payment - Some lenders don't require one but it is advisable to save up at least 20% of the purchase price so you aren't required to carry PMI (Purchase Mortgage Insurance) which only adds to to your monthly payment. There are programs where you can get financing for this through other sources. 2 . Pre-Approval - This I strongly recommend before beginning any

First Time Homebuyer - Typical Expenses - 02/26/08 04:45 PM
Purchasing a home for the first time can be an anxious time for most people. A home typically will be the single most expensive purchase anyone will make in their lifetime. Besides the obvious house payment, including taxes and interest, many don't factor in any other costs associated with home ownership. In the rest of this post I will try to outline the ones that usually come when writing an offer and going to contract. 1. Earnest Money - Although this sometimes is not required, it is a good idea to submit an offer that includes earnest money. Why you may

Any Good Books Lately? - 02/20/08 09:44 AM
I made it a goal of mine about three years ago to read at least 24 books a year with at least four of them being real estate related. So far I've been right on track. This year I should soon finish "The Champion Real Estate Agent" by Dirk Zeller and "Real Estate Rainmaker, Guide to Online Marketing" by Dan Gooder Richard. Both have been excellent books with lots of great content. The real question after reading these is will I put them into practice or just sit there and say "Hey I read a great book.". I've already started putting

Home Buyers Clinic? - 02/20/08 08:49 AM
I am considering doing a First Time Home-buyers Clinic and am wondering if any of you have done anything like this? I would love to hear your comments, suggestions, content, etc.... I am very interested in helping people find their first home and feel I have a wealth of information to help them find that right place. I am considering having other people there too, like, a loan officer, home inspector, title company, and insurance agent. I value experiences first. What do you think? Thanks

Do Not Love the World... - 02/20/08 08:04 AM
I've been told in 1 John 2:15-17 not to love the world or anything in the world and if I do, the love of the Father is not in me. Worldliness begins in my heart and is visible in what occupies my time, energy, and possessions. If I'm in this business simply to afford a larger house, the latest and greatest toys, or to show people how powerful and important I am, then I'm of the world. I really like the last verse and should read it everyday or at least when I feel the urge to become more "worldly":

What's Really Important? - 02/10/08 07:32 PM
I've been reminded lately what is really important in my life here on this earth. Everyday I'm pounded by the world's view of success; money, fame, possessions. All of these are great if you're goal in life is to "die with the most toys". My time on earth will be short so the things that really matter are the relationships I build and the love I show to others. Money cannot buy love, fame cannot win love, and the things I possess cannot bring me lasting happiness. My prayer this year is that I can use my God-given abilities to show
