Today Is The Most Important Day in
the 30 Day Challenge

If you have not gotten the opportunity to see the most recent contests, check it out here. It is always a good idea to check out what is going on just before the start of the month because that's usually when the contest starts.
This month there is a 30 day Challenge that is very important today. Why? Well if you don't get your first post in today you can not successfully complete the challenge. If you have never attempted one of these Challenges, consider this … (18 comments)

Looks Like The Oscar Buzz Has Begun!

Ever since the announcement of the Big Movie Contest, it seems that all of ActiveRain is getting ready for the event. Some will be watching with popcorn and snacks, others returning for nominations, and the always welcomed newcomer.
Looking forward to seeing all the entries this year, I hope that you are considering joining the fun. Roger D. Mucci has put this event together and based on his track record, it will be a much talked about social extravaganza.

Don’t miss out, come join the fun!

challenge: Love Comes In All Shapes and Sizes - 02/13/14 04:24 PM
Love Comes In All Shapes and Sizes

When I think of all the projects that I loved being a part of over my career, I think of many. All the special people who I have been able to help in some way to brighten their home, help financially, or even a trouble-free transaction. Many of these include those that are elderly, there is much to be said about caring for that group. This post is not about those projects.
There is also the other end of the spectrum, the kids that are effected by the work that I have done. … (13 comments)

challenge: This Hidden Gem Was Truly Hidden - 02/12/14 04:49 PM
This Hidden Gem Was Truly Hidden

I love my home, it sits in a wonderful horse property community called Greenstone Country and is very peaceful. It is not that we are 100 miles from civilization but sometimes it seems that we. We live on a quiet road, a couple hundred feet from the end so there is no through traffic and only one neighbor on that side of our property.
At night you can hear crickets, occasionally the coyote, and if the wind picks up you can hear it moving closer as it makes its way through the trees … (14 comments)

challenge: I have read the Community Guidelines a few times now, have you? - 01/20/14 03:36 PM

I have read the Community Guidelines a few times now, have you?

When I first got to ActiveRain, I did read the Guidelines but it wasn’t until I re-read them after being here a while that I could see the value of having them. I read them a second time a while back because it was a part of a Challenge just like this one. I got a better appreciation for the importance them.

Here are a few that I’d like to consider now.
Do not send unsolicited emails or faxes, or make unsolicited phone calls to another … (15 comments)

challenge: Why In The World Are You Bringing The Buyers Here Now? - 01/17/14 10:49 PM

Why In The World Are You Bringing The Buyers Here Now?

There is a lot that goes on during the preparation of bringing a home to sale. I’m no agent but I have seen all the work that goes into getting the details done. The signing of the agreement, the photos taken, the research, prepping the home to show well, and the things that make for a smooth and quick sale can all be for not if the communication is not clear.
My experience with the homes that are listed or pending is one of repair. I get called … (54 comments)

Stretching Our Limits – A Really Big Deal

This A Really Big Deal or No Big Deal- An ActiveRain Challenge has allowed me to think back over all the great learning experiences that I have had. We all have them; we learn our greatest lessons through experience. I one that I’d like to focus on here is a Really Big Deal.
Before getting my contractor’s license I was a handyman doing smaller jobs for a few years. After getting my license, I was able to reach out to do larger projects. I got comfortable doing this work. But the … (39 comments)

challenge: More People of ActiveRain That I Would Like to Meet - 10/31/13 04:21 PM

There are so many more people that I would just love to meet in person. I can’t possibly list or meet them all. I do want to list a few more in this final contest post though. So, for a lack of a better reason, these members round out my list tonight.

Lenn Harley – You can’t argue with success. When I look at the leaderboard, she is right there at the top. It is more than just the points, she has a wonderful ability to produce posts that bring in business! To be honest, many of her posts … (15 comments)

challenge: I Wanna Meet This Guy Live And In Person – Craig Rutman - 10/28/13 03:15 PM

I Wanna Meet This Guy Live And In Person –
Craig Rutman

One of the things that caught my attention when I first came to ActiveRain was this guy who posted so many interesting Photoshop images that were very entertaining. His posts were always directed back to his local market – Craig Rutman is a Realtor in the Raleigh, Cary, Apex area. I had subscribed to his posts long ago and still read his posts regularly.
Being a fan of Photoshop myself, I have been intrigued by the things he is able to do. I would try … (15 comments)

challenge: Who would I Like to Meet Live and In Person? Where Do I Start? - 10/27/13 04:34 PM

Who would I Like to Meet Live and In Person?
Where Do I Start?

I remember a few years ago there was a Challenge similar to this one; we had to pick three “Gold Star” members. When I wrote that post I chose Craig Daniels, Tammy Emineth, and Richard Yates, each of them still rank very high and I would want to meet them.
When I wrote that post after being here for less than 60 days, I felt that I left so many members out of the list. That same feeling has come back; there are too many … (26 comments)

challenge: Are you kidding? Show California in one photo? - 10/26/13 06:20 PM

Are you kidding? Show California in one photo?

There is so much in the State of California that could be photographed and be absolutely stunning. The gorgeous coastlines, the majestic mountains, countless streams and rivers, and lakes for recreation and relaxation – all add to the scenic beauty. And that’s just the beginning; there is so much more to this state.
There is so much history in this part of the country; some of the buildings date back hundreds of years. Parts of the state still have old Spanish settler structures; the Gold Rush has left its … (24 comments)

challenge: Give up the fight – Change! - 05/26/13 12:33 AM

Give up the fight – Change!

There are so many things that we could probably change that would help in doing business better but we fight it because we do not like to change. Change requires extra effort on our part and probably costs a little bit more money. It is so much easier to just continue to do what we do and live with the results, or hope that things will get better.
There are many Challenges here on ActiveRain that have opened my eyes to new ways of doing things; things that could probably help me in … (12 comments)

challenge: How did you do in the Getting Healthy in the Rain Challenge? - 03/27/13 05:03 PM

How do you do in the Getting Healthy in the Rain Challenge?
I liked the idea of doing something to get healthier and a Challenge was probably a great idea to get that kick start that I needed. I have a problem with sleeping – I don’t do it. Not literally of
course, but I get by on some very limited number of hours.

I had high hopes of having regular sleep patterns in the short time frame of the Challenge; I would have been happy with any progress to tell you the truth. Things did get better at … (14 comments)

challenge: Going paperless in the construction industry, we can make some changes - 09/08/12 05:31 PM

Going paperless in the construction industry,
we can make some changes.

I did not participate in the original challenge back in February of 2011. I was not yet an active Rainmaker and had only a limited number of days on ActiveRain. I do remember seeing the original challenge and thought, “this doesn’t apply to my trade”. I’m a contractor, not an agent who deals with all that paperwork requiring signature and can benefit from a company like Docu-Sign.
I do remember thinking about going paperless. What would it be like to not have the contracts, estimates, scopes of … (9 comments)

challenge: Do some contractors add more value than others? - 08/12/12 07:24 PM

Do some contractors add more value than others?

Are you looking for a general contractor that will bring more than expected? If a contractor bulldozes his way through the job, you may be less than happy even if the project was completed. There are so many little things that can add value to the contractor you may be seeking.
Being a contractor in the Sacramento, CA area, we have had the opportunity to serve many different clients, homeowners, property managers, corporate businesses and government agencies to name a few. While each of these clients have different decision makers, … (26 comments)

challenge: Welcome Newcomer Mike Hendrickson from San Luis Obispo, CA - 01/18/12 07:45 PM
Welcome Newcomer Mike Hendrickson from San Luis Obispo, CA
In my search through the January Roster, I discovered, Mike Hendrickson, a newcomer that is from San Luis Obispo. I chose Mike initially because I have spent some time in his home town visiting my son at college over the last few years. So I check into what Mike has been doing since being a member.
What really caught my eye was the fact that he has already posted 18 posts since the first of the month, that’s an average of one per day. I know I didn’t start out that way. … (2 comments)

challenge: Welcome James Lyon from Roseville, Ca. - 01/11/12 07:17 PM
Welcome James Lyon from Roseville, Ca.
I’ve heard of several definitions of what a Newcomer is, like the number points, how long they have been here, and total number of posts. In looking for a newcomer for my 2012 BIG Jumpstart Blog Challenge, I chose someone that has been around for a few month, and still getting his feet wet.
James Lyon, from James Lyon Real Estate, is the Newcomer that I’d like to feature here. He currently has just less than 40,000 points, so it’s not like he is just lurking around. He is making an effort to get something … (6 comments)

challenge: A feeling of belonging to a vibrant and diverse community - 01/09/12 06:56 PM
Weltanschauung: the guiding principles and philosophy of an organization; a world view
ActiveRain welcomes the active participation of all real estate professionals, irrespective of their affiliation with industry groups or trade associations. We believe a vibrant and diverse real estate community is essential to maintaining a strong organization.

In reviewing the guiding principles and philosophy of ActiveRain, this one stuck in my head. I remember the first few days on ActiveRain, the feeling of “should I be here?” was a constant thought. So many of the members were real estate agents and broker and I was not, I felt … (16 comments)
