The construction of the new Ross Dress for Less Store in Placerville, CA has taken great strides the last few months. The construction project is part of the revamping of the Prospector’s Plaza Shopping Center. The new Ross store will be 25,000 square feet and will require the demolition of 9,500 square feet of existing shop space. Prospector’s Plaza is located near Missouri Flat Road and Highway 50 and is anchored by K-mart, CVS and Save Mart Supermarket.
Have you ever worked with a contractor where the job just seems to drag on and on? Wouldn’t it be great to have a sign that could be posted, declaring the area a “Slow Construction Zone”?
This sign made me laugh a bit today. Anybody else see the humor in this?
The sun was pretty brutal today for those working on construction projects outside. It was good to see that the sun finally began to retreat over the horizon. Of course, we get to do this again tomorrow. We are anticipating temperatures to reach 106 in Sacramento. This is going to be good. (9 comments)
Yes, we are insured and can prove it. Certificates of Insurance are available upon request.
Whenever you are considering entering into a contract for work on your property, verifying that the contractor has insurance is very important. Verify that the contractor is covered by two kinds of insurance.
General Liability Insurance and Workers’ Compensation Insurance Protects You!
General Liability Insurance covers damage the contractor may cause to your property. Workers Compensation Insurance covers the contractor’s employee injuries while working at your property. Without either of these insurance coverages, you may be financially responsible for any accidents (14 comments)
In a country where cash and check writing is getting to be less and less, I have to ask myself if I want to start accepting debit and credit cards. It doesn’t happen that often but I did get asked this week. It wasn’t a deal breaker; many clients would just find it easier to do. I know of many in the trade that find this to be very convenient.
Are you losing business because you do not take credit cards? Can you justify the fees to provide the service? Are (12 comments)
I was driving down the road in the rain and looked over to see this truck next to mine. I saw the Irish Construction logo and knew that I get a photo of this for a St. Patrick’s Day post. Hope that your day is enjoyable, whether you are Irish or not. Happy St. Patrick’s Day! (6 comments)
Check the landfills for the answers! Gabrielle, from Tucson Arizona, found the answers to these questions on a trip to the landfill. Maybe you can find the same answer in your town. Check out her post and leave a comment there. She’d love to hear feedback. So I started remodeling a rental home last month - and with remodeling comes trips to the local Tucson landfills. I usually take my trailer-load way out west to a landfill that takes anything (2 comments)
We have been very fortunate with the weather here in the Sacramento area, with temperatures in the low 60’s and clear skis, it’s hard to believe that it is late December. It has allowed me and the guys to continue working both inside and outside as if it were October. I am grateful for that!
I have several projects that are hard to schedule, we don’t know how long things will take until we open stuff up and find the problem and the (16 comments)
construction: They cut it twice and it's still too short - Photo Fun

They cut it twice and it's still too short - Photo Fun The cutting of studs for a wall is pretty simple; you measure and then you cut the board. Judging by the markings on the stud, the length was measured. Apparently the length or the cut was done wrong though. I’d like to say that this was the only stud like this in this wall, but all of them were adjusted in a similar fashion.
This isn’t the reason why there is a problem with the wall (a car ran into it), but you have to wonder what (24 comments)
The road project to improve the Green Valley Road and South Shingle Springs Road intersection is underway. For those familiar with this section of road, there will be delays periodically during the day. Heavy equipment, grading, tree removal and drainage have already been a part of this project. Once it is completed the sharp turn, narrow bridge, and awkward stop sign will be changed. Looking forward to that day.
