el dorado county: New Laminate Counters In Cameron Park Apartment - 10/21/15 11:08 PM
New Laminate Counters In
Cameron Park Apartment

Installing new laminate counters in Sacramento and El Dorado County is not a new service for Tromler Construction, we install these counters in apartments and homes regularly. When working with an apartment community, at some point management may decide to change styles of materials being used. This change can have an impact on the look of the unit.
This week, one of the apartment communities that I work with made a minor change in the color and texture of their kitchen counters. They switched from an plain almond laminate to a darker granite-like laminate. … (7 comments)

I'm Sure It Will Go Unnoticed By Most Buyers

Okay, so you are looking at building or repairing that deck of yours and want to get some ideas to make those deck improvements. You head over to your local Big Box Hardware store to look at some displays, check the prices, and collect some design ideas for your own home project. I do the same thing sometimes.
While at a local store I came across this display pamphlet showing some design options. Included in the photos was a shot of a gate. Gates are important to have but they do need to be … (16 comments)

el dorado county: "We Had Another Contractor Do The Work” - 07/17/15 11:28 PM

"We Had Another Contractor Do The Work”

As a contractor in El Dorado County, I get an opportunity to look at and bid on many jobs but I do not get them all. The reason vary as to why I lose some of the projects but it is a competitive market. Good, healthy competition is good for everyone.
I bid on a deck project in an apartment community that needed several wood decks repaired or replaced. I hadn't heard from the manager but was looking at another job in the neighborhood. I took the liberty of driving through to see if the work … (7 comments)

el dorado county: I Stripped It Off, Now What? - 07/15/15 10:50 PM

I Stripped It Off, Now What?

It took some time but I was able to strip the fencing of all the stain and sealers that accumulated of the years. With this bare surface, it is now time to get it covered in a consistent stain and protected from the elements. That will be a decision made by someone else. I was asked to put up three sample colors so that they could get a better idea of what it will look like.

That Wood Is So Rotted,
I Can Put My Thumb Through It.

There are times when we have a feeling that the wood siding is just not right, it looks funny. The siding that is damaged will look warped or swollen and may be discolored. Sometimes we can get a good idea by just putting a little pressure on the surface in the area.

Cracked Curb Crisis

Okay, maybe it isn't a crisis but there are some areas where a concrete curb gets pretty broken up. This is due primarily from large trucks cutting corners and crushing the curb. We have a plan to increase the strength of this section to help increase the life of the curbing here.

I'm Sure You Can Fix That Door,
But Why Would You?

There is always pressure to save money with investment property. The less you spend, the greater your return on investment. Squeezing expenses can look good on paper, but there are some other things to consider.
If you are putting in a lot of your time fixing something, there is a cost involved in that time spent. You may not pay for it in cash but it have value. Sometimes it just makes sense to replace rather than repair an item.
There is also a hidden cost … (10 comments)

Had To Get A Burn Pile Done In El Dorado County Before The Rains Today

Sure we are in a drought in El Dorado County, so outdoor burns can get a bit scarce in some years. Because of the slight rains of late and the storms that are on the way, I think the burn day schedule opened up. But who wants to burn during the rain?

Burn piles can be a both dangerous and messy if done during the rains. I went out of my way to get this burn going so … (12 comments)

I’m Not Sure How This Cracked Tub Was Missed,But the Move-In Is Tomorrow

“Do you replace bathtubs?”
That was the call I received yesterday afternoon. I do all sorts of construction repairs, including tub and shower replacements. I got over to the job site to see what was involved. Apparently no one saw that the tub had a large crack in it until right before the scheduled move-in – Today!
I had to inform them that it would not be done today, but that I would get on it right away. So I called in for … (20 comments)

King Fire Roars On

The forest fire which started in Pollock Pines of El Dorado County has roared to 28,000 acres. It is moving in a north eastern direction through the think forest of the Sierras.
It is only 5% contained.
The first photo was taken from a location down in Sacramento, the second shot was on my way home toward the fire.

Fire Continues To Grow in
El Dorado County

I took this shot while heading home yesterday, the smoke shifted a bit last night and was pretty heavy in Placerville. The evacuations continue as the blaze marches up the hill.
Our prayers go out to all those in the path today.

el dorado county: Time to Start Thinking About Firewood in El Dorado County? - 09/03/14 02:59 PM

Time to Start Thinking About
Firewood in El Dorado County?

I know it's still summer and the temporature here in California are touching 100 degrees, but winter is not all that far away. Maybe you don't need to have it delivered this weekend but consider doing it soon. Getting the wood delivered before the rains will allow you to store and cover the wood, protecting it from the rain and snow. It will be cold this winter, it always is.

el dorado county: Stairs and Decks Can Hide Dry Rot Damage - 09/02/14 03:42 PM

Stairs and Decks Can Hide Dry Rot Damage

Whenever anything is mounted to your home, there is a risk of moisture collecting between the two and dry rot and water damage occuring. If possible, creating an air space between the two allows circulation of air and the elimination of debris building up.
I looked at this stairway removal and could see that there were water damage that needs to be replace with good wood and siding. This spot is not too bad, things can get a lot worse.

She Won't Be Able To Fit In The Door!

When it comes to making a bathroom accessible for the handicapped, you have to start with the door opening. Typically, the door needs to be 36” wide and we have less than 28”.

No matter what gets scheduled on the inside, this doorway needs to be opened up so she can get in the room.

Wanna see what we plan on doing inside this barrier-free wheelchair accessible bathroom?

Hot Summer Days Can Come To A Great Finish

I personally enjoy the hot summer days in El Dorado County. Sure it would be nice to have some more rain in the future but I can't change that. So I will enjoy the summer days; and if I'm lucky, there will be ice cream in the freezer. That is the case tonight.

Mud Pie Ice Cream is on the agenda!

I'm Not Sure Why I Like To See This Small Barn in El Dorado County

There is something about old barns that I just like to see. Up in the foothills of the Sierras there are many that are over 100 years old. Books have been written and countless photos taken, but there is something about seeing them in person.

This small barn is close to my house and I see just about every day.

el dorado county: It must be bat season, Mr Kitty tells me so. - 05/02/14 02:00 PM

It must be bat season, Mr Kitty tells me so.

I love my cat, Mr. Kitty has a way of catching his prey that is sometimes hard to imagine. I have never known a cat to catch live bats at night, but he does. I think it must be bat season here in El Dorado County, he has been leaving me presents at the front door.

el dorado county: Do you sometimes get a feeling that you are not welcome? - 03/31/14 10:54 AM

Sometimes you roll up to the job site and just
get a feeling that you are not welcome.

This feeling doesn’t happen to often but it does from time to time, especially when working on a vacant or abandoned home. Not being familiar with the background of the property, we don’t always know who is allow to be on the premises.
While walking up to a home in El Dorado County, I noticed that there were shotgun shells randomly throughout the front of the building. Not exactly a welcome feeling to start the day. The day … (19 comments)

el dorado county: Energy and money lost in the attic, resident pays but didn't know it! - 03/04/14 02:53 PM

I opened the attic access and there was a warm air coming down.

With the cost of energy increasing during the winter months, it’s important to have a ventilation system that is functioning at its best. Any ducts that are blocked or separated can be a real cost to the owners or tenants. That’s what I came across today.
When I climbed the ladder and opened the access cover there was a warm flow of air coming right at me. This was strange considering it was winter and the unit had the heater on; I would have … (24 comments)

el dorado county: What a rainfall we had in El Dorado County last night! - 02/27/14 03:25 PM

We had some horrible bursts of rain last night, water was overflowing my gutters. Sure, I know I preach about keeping the gutters clean but I did. I just did them myself. The rain was so hard that the downspouts just couldn’t keep up with the flow of water coming down.

 The worst part?
It interfered with my satellite reception…
