marketing: Cashing In On The Neighbors - A Print Campaign - 05/21/13 01:16 PM

When I first saw this contest I wondered how I could effectively use $300 a month in a print campaign. I haven’t had much experience in printed material, haven’t really had the need to try. I do mail out postcards to clients from time to time just to stay in contact; and often send a thank you to selected customers. So how could I use printed materials to help my business?
The bulk of our work is on apartment community buildings but there is an interesting phenomenon that happens when we do work in some residential areas. We see … (3 comments)

marketing: Time Is Too Short, I Read It At McDonald’s - 03/14/13 05:16 PM

Time Is Too Short, I Read It At McDonald’s

I will admit from the start of this post that this may a little distasteful.

I see things during the day that just catch my eye for one reason or another; I think this one is just one of those things that others just did not notice – even the McDonald’s Corporation.

I stepped into McDonald’s to get a quick bite for breakfast. I ordered my food and stepped over to the soda machine to wait for my number to be called. As I turned … (16 comments)

marketing: An Organized and Coordinated Effort Using Postcards - 01/05/13 04:26 PM

An Organized and Coordinated Effort Using Postcards

I have to admit, the idea of “an organized and coordinated method” has eluded me and my marketing efforts. This is not to say that I have not made efforts to “drum up business”, or do some cold calling , or a long list of actions that have worked over the years. The vast majority have been one time efforts that worked well enough to make it worthwhile, or get just the rush of business needed to get me through the slow season.
The only real system that I have used on … (25 comments)

marketing: Did you really use a photograph of the mailboxes in your marketing? - 11/26/12 12:07 PM

Did you really use a photograph of the mailboxes in your marketing?

I was called out to a property to do some repairs in an apartment community yesterday. I had been there before but didn’t have the street address to give to my employee. I searched online for the property address, and saw that there were photos of the property. I was curious as to what the photos included.

Being on ActiveRain, looking at the photos is fun because I’ve learned from the group what should not be put into the MLS photos. I had to laugh when … (22 comments)

Is Your Marketing Material Effective?

While driving through the parking lot of the local home improvement store, I noticed a contractor’s truck that had a magnetic sign on the side of the truck. While it may have had some humorous meaning to the owner, I couldn’t help think “What does Johnny do?”
It would seem to me that if you are going to put something on the side of your truck, market your company. Even something as simple as the company name can help someone who may see it.
I am in need of a drywall … (10 comments)

marketing: Is this something that you would scan? I was curious. - 04/17/12 11:13 PM

Is this something that you would scan?

We are in the middle of tearing out a couple of lightweight concrete decks at an apartment community in Sacramento. This required making a couple of trips to the county landfill, to dispose of the construction debris. While there, a truck pulled up next to me that had no identification but a QR Code.
We have had numerous posts about the QR Codes here on ActiveRain. I have posted several times myself on the topic. You have probably seen these codes in a growing number of places. They are simple to create … (12 comments)

marketing: Best Business Practices - General Contractor Uses Videos To Get Apartment Complex Jobs - 09/15/11 02:29 AM

General Contractor Uses Videos To Get Apartment Complex Jobs

I kind of stumbled into this technique about two years ago, but the results have been worthy of mentioning here. While it is something that has worked for me as a contractor, maybe you can come up with something that better fits into your profession.

I had finally made the decision to start video recording in an attempt to get familiar with recording, editing, and posting for the sake of marketing. I knew that the growth of video marketing was quickly approaching and wanted to be a part of … (14 comments)

marketing: A New Medium For QR Code - Not A Good One! - 07/12/11 07:30 PM

Since first learning about QR Codes here on ActiveRain, I have noticed the codes in more and more places. There has been numerous posts here on QR Codes: how-to, marketing with, inclusion in the blog, contests and more. But have we seen then being used in the "real world"?
Where have I seen them lately? Well, I first noticed one on an advertisement in the local newspaper. After that I saw a few in a glossy real estate publication, then on a postcard sent to my house. A few days ago I saw one on a newspaper stand, but tonight … (17 comments)

marketing: It Just Got A Whole Lot Easier To Repost On Craigslist. - 07/04/11 07:41 PM
I post a bunch of ads for apartment communities and contractors in my area (for fun and for free).
Since I post on a regular basis, I check in as the post expires and repost by clicking through, rarely changing the original ads. This can take some time and often having to wait for Craigslist to process the posts. It tells me I'm posting too quickly, try again later.
If I edited the original post, the expiration date remained the same, so there was no reason not to let it expire.
But apparently that has changed. And for what I am … (58 comments)

Check out she has amassed 100,000 points in a short period of time. Certainly someone to keep an eye on here.

marketing: Whipping Up A QR Code Off The Wall Video! - 06/22/11 07:53 PM

Okay, I have been wondering about this QR Code stuff that I've been reading about here on ActiveRain. I learned about "the idea" of the code. I just learned today that QR stands for Quick Response and it has been around since 1994. Wow its been around for a while and I haven't really seen it being used. That's not to say that it won't catch on, I just haven't noticed it being used in my field of work.

I've heard that the purpose is to allow someone to scan the Code with a "Smart Phone" and be … (19 comments)

marketing: Lose The Ugly URL On Your Facebook Page - Get A Username! - 03/26/11 09:05 PM
Okay so you have a Facebook Page and you have some fans of that page. I believe the current minimum is 25 fansbefore you are eligible for a username. So when you first sign up for your Facebook page the url will look something like this one.
https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100001371703680

This is not the most attractive looking URL to have, looking at it you have no idea who it belongs to. The short URL would be more appropriate for business cards, stationary, web site links, etc. This business appears to be qualified, and if so, the new URL could look like this … (5 comments)

marketing: Working with Sony Pro 9 - Apartment Promo Video - 03/24/11 07:53 PM
I've been putting together some videos for some of my regular clients. Below is the early stages of part of the latest video. I needed to use Adobe Photoshop to alter the end of the video. The video was shot with a Sony HD camera and edited with Sony Pro 9 editing software. I'm just beginning to learn how powerful these programs are, many more features than I will ever need.
The Apartment Community is Cameron Oaks in Cameron Park, Ca. The completed video will be approximately 1 minute in length. Most of the video marketing for these apartment communities get posted to … (2 comments)

marketing: Adding Video To Your Craigslist Ads - 03/19/11 09:33 PM
I've been procrastinating on a post that I believe is useful to those who use Craigslist and enjoy video. I'm posting this so that I will commit to getting it done in a timely fashion. It will need to be in at least two parts but I think that it may help people like me who just need to see how something can be done.

To you this may seem like a wasted post, to me it is a personal challenge. I have chosen to limit where this will be seen. The two part series will be posted … (5 comments)

marketing: The Perfect Time To Market Your Business! - 03/12/11 08:06 PM
When is the best time to market your business? What I have seen others do, and my own experience in marketing - Now is the best time. Right now in the middle of summer after working in the blazing heat. Right now when I get home from driving in the stormy weather. Right now after signing a big contract that will take three months to complete. The best time to market your business is RIGHT NOW!

Always marketing is the correct answer. This is true in all it's forms; social media, business cards, postcards, telephone cold calling, networking at … (6 comments)

marketing: Repeat Customers, That's Where It's At! - 03/09/11 06:36 PM
There is a lot of talk about the value of the referrals in providing a service. Getting others to talk about you to their friends, relatives, and neighbors can be a great value to selling homes. But I think the most valuable customer is the repeat customer.

Give me a hand full of repeat customers any day. Those that will call whenever your services are needed. Think of all your past sales, wouldn't it be nice if all of them called you the next time they needed to buy or sell there home? The it is probably best to keep an eye on … (11 comments)

marketing: Marketing Takes Time, But Nothing Happens Until Something Happens - 03/06/11 09:37 AM

The need to be online and marketing yourself is very important today. The reasons are many: people are doing more online searches than ever, finding someone locally, and referred by a friend to name a few. The challenge is where do I want to be in the social media mix. That answer probably depends on who you are marketing to.
Your need to be on MySpace is not great if your target market are senior citizens. Where does your target audience go online? Getting on Facebook is probably a good start. It's easy to get started, and you will quickly … (2 comments)

marketing: When A 5 Star Rating Is Not Good Enough, My Yelp Experience. - 02/26/11 07:44 AM

I first heard about Yelp a while back. I check out the web site and thought I'd give the free site a whirl. I approach many such sites the same way; sign up, kick the tires, and see how it can work for my business.
I was getting some random hits in the first few months, but I wasn't actively pushing anything. The site does not want its members to ask there client for reviews. They feel that the client who logs in on there own, or who is directed to the site can make their own decisions about whether … (2 comments)

marketing: Anybody Using Yelp? - 02/24/11 01:06 AM

I am curious to hear if anyone is using Yelp as a marketing tool. My experience has been that property owners and managers have found me on Yelp - more than I expected. I have curtailed my efforts in using Yelp for a couple of reasons that I will discuss in a future post.
Not familiar with Yelp? This short video explains how the site works. It's a little different than others.

marketing: Are You Writing And Submitting Articles Too? - 02/23/11 02:51 PM
I'm not much on writing articles or blogs, but it seems I'm doing a lot of it.
There are many sites to post articles that you have written. I have posted to EzineArticles.com a few times and have gotten some views from people that I would not have reached before. Check it out, especially if you enjoy writing articles. I post about marketing, video producing, social media; lots of different stuff.
I also use the site to post to Twitter. I have found that my Twitter followers tend to funnel down to my target market when I do. Just some ideas.
