Judging by the big surge in sales at the local warehouse stores, there is a huge rush in the do-it-yourself projects. As luck would have it, I needed to be at several different building material retail outlets this past weekend and there was an overwhelming number of homeowners working on getting their projects done themselves. This swarm of retail buyers continued through closing time on both Saturday and Sunday.
This trend is probably sparked by several different factors. Homes sold As-Is – Homes purchased as-is require many of the small projects that (4 comments)
There has been a trend in property improvements in Sacramento early in the month of January. In talking to contractors, suppliers, and phone queries to our office, there is a surge in demand for construction trade work to investment properties throughout the Sacramento area. This trend seems to be one that will continue into the New Year.
The trend in property repairs and improvements to investments properties seems to match the sales of lower priced homes. Many of the calls that we have gotten, were the result of property bought (10 comments)
Market Report - Home Office Shift in Sacramento There has been a growing need for home office space in the Sacramento Area. This growth in home office space has been spawned by a couple of factors today. Many companies have offered, or encouraged their employees to work from home; this is to reduce the need for corporate office space. Others have created a home office to start a business of their own, hoping to make things work on their own. Still others chose to make office space after the kids have moved out. All of these reasons have led to (4 comments)
Sacramento Construction and Repair Trends in December – There is Still Work Out There! As the year comes to an end, the Sacramento construction trend seems to be funneling toward necessity. Budgeted money has been dried up, the weather is shifting to much cooler temperatures, and the holidays are upon us. For some, this is a slow time. With these conditions in place, what's a contractor to do? Recognize that this is a normal trend and target accordingly! Not one of these conditions can be blamed on the economy, take a look. Budgeted money always runs out by year's end, (6 comments)
The growing trend in Sacramento apartment communities is multi-color exterior paint. I’m not talking about the basic body color with a trim color to compliment the body. We are seeing strong contrasting colors that make the buildings stand out. If you are familiar with the San Francisco area where homes with zero lot lines each painted a different color, this is the kind of look that we are seeing. Sometimes the colors will be broken up between the first and second stories, other times the body colors will be broken up vertically. (5 comments)
It sure seems that I lot of us got caught up in the Halloween topics, pictures, costumes and trick-or-treating. That may have been due in part to the Inspiration Station currently in its third week of inspiring thoughts for topics to post about, based on recent trends.
So the question that comes to mind, now that Halloween trend will be ending soon is
What will the next trend be?
I hope that there will be something significant before the Thanksgiving trend. If Thanksgiving is (4 comments)
Market Report - Home Improvement Spending in Sacramento
Tracking home improvement spending is not an easy task. There is not much available at the local level. We can look at trends at the national level and make some assumptions about our local regions. This can be done for the Sacramento area.
In looking at the chart from the Harvard Joint Center for Housing Studies, we can see that the home improvement dollars has increase in the first quarter and project continued growth for the second quarter. This seems to be true for the Sacramento area.
Market Report - Bathroom Remodel Trends in Sacramento 2011
If you plan to design your perfect bathroom, or remodel your existing bathroom you may want to check out what the current trends are in your market first. There is no reason the remodel your bathroom and have it outdated from the very start. Here are some current trends in bathroom remodeling in the Sacramento, Ca area.
Big bathrooms are better. Tearing out walls to make more space is important. People don’t want to feel crowded in the bathroom. This includes larger showers and tubs, more floor space, (12 comments)
This report covers the interior wall surfaces in homes in the Sacramento Region. The topic will be the interior wall textures in new and remodeled homes based on our knowledge of the area, contractor communications, and published trends.
When we talk about the interior wall surfaces, we are discussing drywall surfaces. Many of the older homes in the region have plaster walls, as a general rule, those remodels either remove the plaster throughout the project or patch to match the existing. These homes are not addressed in the current trends.
As apartment communities get older and outdated many owners have found that it is time to make some changes to the old styles. Some owners do this to attract renters who have the option of move to a nearby community that is new with all the latest trends. Other owners hope to rehab the community prior to putting it on the market to sell at a maximum price. Still others plan on keeping the apartment community, but see that it is time to update the existing property to last another 20 (7 comments)
