Do-It-Yourself Projects Surge in Sacramento, Ca
 
Judging by the big surge in sales at the local warehouse stores, there is a huge rush in the do-it-yourself projects. As luck would have it, I needed to be at several different building material retail outlets this past weekend and there was an overwhelming number of homeowners working on getting their projects done themselves. This swarm of retail buyers continued through closing time on both Saturday and Sunday.

This trend is probably sparked by several different factors.

There has been a trend in property improvements in Sacramento early in the month of January. In talking to contractors, suppliers, and phone queries to our office, there is a surge in demand for construction trade work to investment properties throughout the Sacramento area. This trend seems to be one that will continue into the New Year.

The growing trend in Sacramento apartment communities is multi-color exterior paint. I’m not talking about the basic body color with a trim color to compliment the body. We are seeing strong contrasting colors that make the buildings stand out.

It sure seems that I lot of us got caught up in the Halloween topics, pictures, costumes and trick-or-treating. That may have been due in part to the Inspiration Station currently in its third week of inspiring thoughts for topics to post about, based on recent trends.

Tracking home improvement spending is not an easy task. There is not much available at the local level. We can look at trends at the national level and make some assumptions about our local regions. This can be done for the Sacramento area.
 
In looking at the chart from the Harvard Joint Center for Housing Studies, we can see that the home improvement dollars has increase in the first quarter and project continued growth for the second quarter. This seems to be true for the Sacramento area.
