NexStore: Coming to a Corner Near You (South Florida) - 04/29/07 11:04 PM
In December of 2004, Bill Knight of Highland Beach, FL introduced his latest vision of combining gas stations with other markets.  Being no stranger to the these types of ventures, Mr. Knight developed the first combination gas station and convenience store in Florida in 1969.  The NexStore MarketPlace takes this idea to a whole new level.

Part gas station, part convenience store, part gourmet chef restaurant, part deli, part bakery, etc... the NexStore MarketPlace brings fine dining cuisine to the fast paced, always on the go residents of South Florida (South Palm Beach County and Northern Broward County).  These healthy meals-to-go … (4 comments)

The Leesburg Bikefest Going on Now!!! - 04/28/07 04:48 PM
I am not a biker, but I could not help to post this event...  probably because there have already been over 100 bikes going right down SR19 and past my house to get to Leesburg.

Some of the locals claim it to be better than Daytona's Bike Week (probably because it is not as commercialized).  There are concerts, bike build-offs, a beauty contest, and much more.  Anyone that goes is sure to have a good time.
For more information on the events and for pictures of current and previous Bike Fests, visit www.leesburgbikefest.com
PS. I will try to make it over to the … (1 comments)

The Picture On My Desk Keeps Me Sane! - 04/24/07 11:50 AM
  VS
That's right... I went there.  Gretchen, Madison.  Madison, Gretchen.  Return to your desks and come out swinging the sanity.
In an attempt to start a new AR blogging phenomenon, Chris Griffith and Sarah Cooper threw down their gauntlets to challenge AR members to write something about an item on our desks and why it keeps us sane... Is it really an attempt to draw out our creativity or a way for them to snoop and canvas our desks for something worth taking?  Well, I will opt for the former (but if I find something missing off my desk, I am going after … (17 comments)

Florida Tax Issue Conspiracy Theory - 04/19/07 11:02 AM
With all the talk of state sales tax versus property tax, has anyone given any consideration as to why this proposal even came about?
Everyone agrees that something needs to be done about the property taxes, from the lower income residents to the higher income residents to the out-of-state property owners to the commercial property owners.  Something has got to give and soon.
But why an increase in sales tax and not one of the other proposals that would lower a property owner's tax bill?  Why is this one getting all the hype when there are some very strong cons to it?
Could it … (4 comments)

When Is MI Better Than a 2nd? - 04/17/07 11:37 AM
I have seen many posts talking about MI being tax deductable this year, and just as many say that a 2nd mortgage is still the way to go.  But, I have not seen too many that say MI is better than a 2nd mortgage.
So, when is MI better than a 2nd mortgage?  Is there such a case?
Well, I propose this scenario to you.  First time home buyers is looking for as little down as possible (100% is preferred).  They have a really agressive realtor that finds them a home that is about to be foreclosed on.  The sellers are desperate to … (1 comments)

1st Annual Active Rain Golf Tournament - 04/13/07 01:42 PM
Everybody these days seems to be having Golf Tournaments.  So shouldn't the members of Active Rain have their own tournament, too?
If one was to be put together, would you attend?  Would you want the proceeds that are raised to go to Active Rain to improve the site or go to a charity?  If the latter, what charity or should we create our own charity fund?
I am curious to these answers... if there is enough response and interest in creating a tournament for Active Rain members to come together and meet in one place and to raise money for a cause, I would be … (14 comments)

How You Can Potentially Lower Your Tax Bill In Florida - 04/13/07 12:58 PM
I heard a very interesting rumor the other day.  And I just called the Lake County property appraiser's office to confirm.
Are you ready?...
Did you or someone that you know buy a home in Florida during the big real estate boom the last couple of years?  Is their property now worth less than what they paid for it?  If the answer is yes to both of these, there is hope in lowering your annual property tax bill.
Chances are a lot of people qualify for this opportunity as property prices across Florida have dropped over the past couple months, even though there are some … (14 comments)
