Businessweek and Bloomberg Rankings teamed up to find the best cities in America to raise children. Mandeville, a cozy lakeside town just north of New Orleans, beat out all other Louisiana cities for that title. In the study, public schools and safety were most heavily weighted followed by median family income and the parish unemployment rate.
Mandeville's public school ranking is a 9 out of 10, according to GreatSchools.org, the source used in the study. The median family income was $86,731, with housing costs at 19% of income, and the parish unemployment rate at 5%.
