Being an old town, trees are a huge part of the landscape of New Port Richey, Florida. Some are old and majestic, some have been bent by the winds of time; but they are all lovely and add to the beauty of the area. Being trees, they shade us, are magnificent and give birds a place to hang out (this is important as you will see when you get to the end). Trees add character to a home and make it more attractive. Here are a few seen around town: Some are so stately and southern looking.
What a Difference 40 Days Can Make - 05/30/11 06:52 PM
Mryl Jeffcoat's family rescued this egg that became a duckling and then a full-fledged duck. Anyone who knows me knows I'm all for rescuing animals and wildlife of all kinds so I thought this was a great rescue story to share with you. The duck is spending some quality time with Nana this weekend. How sweet. Via Myrl Jeffcoat (Real Living Great West Real Estate): What a difference 40 days can make. The Bankerment is chasing its tail - 05/30/11 06:44 PM
Mike makes a great point: why are we not hearing from the lenders with solutions to this mess. Home prices are being undercut by short-sales and foreclosures. Short-sales are not the solution to this ever-increasing problem. Via E.J. "Mike" Carlier ABR CRS GRI (MarketLink Realty Apple Valley MN): The housing market doesn't seem any better today than it was a couple years ago. As a matter of fact, I think things are getting worse. There have always been, and there will continue to be families who have unexpected hardships. Whether medical, business, or domestic, things tend to happen. In the good old days, (0 comments)
Ford of Port Richey held an event last Saturday to benefit the SPCA Suncoast. The car show and adoption event also had lots of vendors, lots of food, and 5 puppies were adopted. The entrance fee for registering in the car show was a bag of dog or cat food-15lbs minimum. This is what we ended up with. All five of our puppies were adopted. Ford of Port Richey paid for 3 adoptions-they are so nice to work with. and set all of this up for us. The car show was great and lots of trophies were given out. (11 comments)
The Amazing and Beautiful Blood Lily - 05/29/11 07:56 AM
We were shopping for Caladium bulbs about 12 years ago and I came across this small bag of bulbs-there were only 3 bulbs in it and it cost 3 times the amount the Caladium package with 30 bulbs in it cost; but the picture on the package was so intriguing that--being the flower fool I am- I bought it. I’m so glad I did. Every year in late May or early June, I’m the recipient of these beautiful, very striking blossoms. I think they look like firecrackers but they are actually called Blood Lily and come from India or Africa (20 comments)

Does She Have a Goat of a Chance? Don’t you love fairs and festivals? We were wandering through one in downtown New Port Richey recently and ran across Molly (well, not literally-thank goodness) and she told me that there was a Beautiful Goat contest going on and wondered if we could help decide which picture from her portfolio she should use. Maybe you can all weigh in and help me out here. Too much mystery? Full body shot?
Too much nose? Is this my best side?
Molly has really long eyelashes--that should count for something. Please (38 comments)

Memorial Day used to be called Decoration Day; it didn’t become the official holiday known as Memorial Day until 1971. It first began as a day to honor Union soldiers after the Civil War. After World War 1, it became the day to honor all soldiers who had given their lives in battle.I remember the parades in the main part of our town every year. We would all wave flags and cheer the oldest veterans. Then we would take off for barbeque's and beaches. As children, we didn’t give it much thought except for the knowledge that the weekend was (17 comments)
