sponge docks: Cows On Bikes In Tarpon Springs - 09/12/15 11:35 PM
Cows On Bikes

I love Art and Craft Festivals, I always come away with something cute that delights me (photo-wise).
Our most recent excusion was to the Sponge Docks in Tarpon Springs: always a place we enjoy going to even when there isn't an Arts and Crafts Festival. But last weekend there was one. Parking is always a challenge but we found a great spot and only two blocks from the action.

The very first place we stopped and visited was a landscape stall with all kinds of kitschy things for your yard.  But the thing that got my attention was the cow on … (12 comments)

Sponge Docks of Tarpon Springs, FL

You all know that we love to visit the Sponge Docks of Tarpon Springs, FL and today was a great day to go.

It was Art and Crafts Day on the Sponge Docks, and there were lots of great things to look at as we strolled the main road, Dodecanese Blvd. It was 80 degrees with a fantastic breeze that almost blew the vendors wares off their tables. It was also cloudy (dark, heavy clouds) but that helped to keep us from getting crispy. No rain ever showed it's face.

These are the sponges

sponge docks: Window On Tarpon Springs FL - 11/27/14 07:22 PM
Window On Tarpon Springs, FL.  We strolled the main avenue in Tarpon Springs last week. It’s such a lovely walk especially when the weather is gorgeous, and we indulged ourselves with viewing the window displays in the variety of stores. I noticed this window treatment at one of the offices.

Downtown Tarpon Springs  is always a great place to spend a day with lots of antique stores, clothing, and other enticing goodies like food–great restaurants (Greek and otherwise). Have a relaxing lunch with friends and stroll the streets. And there are always festivals and  events going on during weekends-lots … (12 comments)

Lunch With An Egret At The Sponge Docks in Tarpon Springs, FL

I love going to the Sponge Docks in Tarpon Springs, FL. You just never know who you will run into. This visit got us a visit from an egret sitting on our window of Rusty Bellies Restaurant. (One of our favorite restaurants).
He seems to be contemplating something; maybe it was whether or not he could grab some of my lunch.

He stayed to visit for quite a while, was very polite and did not at any time try to grab a french fry.
If you would like to be able to lunch … (19 comments)

The Aegean Isles - A 42 Foot Sponge Diving Boat in Tarpon Springs, FL

According  to the sign, the Aegean Isles (original name Apalachicola) was built in 1935 of cypress and pine by George Castrinos of Apalachacola, FL and was used for sponge diving until 1943 when it became an air and sea rescue boat in the Gulf of Mexico.

Winging In and Sleeping In - The Sponge Docks in Tarpon Springs

A seagull wings his way to find some food. (Did you ever know a seagull that didn’t look for food).  Look closely at the top of the pole, see anything?

This seagull is sleeping in on the pole. Hoping someone at the restaurant below will drop something.

Does this underscore the different methods of obtaining what you desire?

Walking through an art and craft show on the Sponge Docks in Tarpon Springs-Florida recently, we came across these guys. The parrots seem to be bewildered by the bears. It Is Time to Leave The Nest-Really! Tarpon Springs-The Sponge Docks Part 4 We were at the Sponge Docks in Tarpon Springs one day (it’s such a great place to hang out) and were privileged to see this very big event (to the Osprey family) taking place.   A baby Osprey is resisting Mom and Dad’s urging to take his first flight. First Mom tries- even showing him how it's done; but no, it’s not going to happen.
Then Dad tries but he has no more success.
So then they try the time-tested “we’re leaving now and you better … (31 comments)

sponge docks: Beckett Bridge in Tarpon Springs-Florida is a Unique Drawbridge - 02/10/11 11:49 PM
Beckett Bridge in Tarpon Springs-Florida is one of several drawbridges in Pinellas County; but Beckett is unique in that it does not have a full-time bridge tender on duty. Tall boats have to provide notice to Pinellas County 2 hours prior to requesting a bridge opening!
Stretching over Whitcomb and Minetta Bayous, Beckett Bridge was originally constructed in 1924 and re-constructed as it is today in 1956. It is a concrete, low-level drawbridge. And, it features a single-leaf span rather than the double-leaf spans found in all the other Pinellas County drawbridges.
Becket Bridge is named after a Pinellas County … (25 comments)
