When it turned Midnight the firworks started going off everywhere.  I'm outside of Tulsa, and the sky is beautiful with stars and the first "Blue Moon" of the year.  I don't get to see the stars or the moon living so close to the city lights of Houston.  The ground is still covered with ice and snow, and it's in the teens, but a great way to start the New Year, with a roaring fireplace and family, some late night snacks and a great movie!  Nothing wrong with that!
Fairly rare, the last one was in 1990.

Houston's Uptown Holiday Lighting will take place Thursday evening on Thanksgiving, November 26.  Presented by TXU Energy, Post Oak Blvd. will be lit up with one half a million lights, music, fireworks and Santa.  This event will be benefiting Sheltering Arms Senior Services and Be An Angel, which helps with various types of services associated with Seniors.  www.shelteringarms.org.

2009: South Shore Harbour Country Club Nutcracker Market - League City, TX - 11/07/09 11:13 AM

Tick Tock, Tick Tock it's time to change your clocks at 2:00a.m. on November 1st, 2009.   It will be time to turn your clocks back 1 hour.  Fall back into Daylight Savings Time. 
If you're in the United States, it applies to you unless you're in Hawaii and some parts of Arizona. Those are the only two states that don't observe Dayllight Savings Time.
Officially, it's all part of a system to reduce electricity usage by extending daylight hours.

The 8th Annual south Shore Dockside Food & Wine Festival with guest Kinky Friedman on October 17th, 2009.
Kinky will be signing autographs and smoking his famous cigars.  He has been featured numerous media outlets.  Friedman ran for Governor of Texas in 2006 and is considering running again in 2010.

If you like boats, and who doesn't in this area, you'll want to make the Boat Show in League City, TX on September 24, 2009.
The show will have on exhibit more than 400 boats, with demonstrations.  Also on exhibit will be exotic cars, truck, luxury RVs, fishing and boating gear, a fashion show, entertainment and food. 
The event will be at the South Shore Harbour Marina off of South Shore Blvd.

Italian Expo is America's largest "Made in Italy" expo that is an event that will be held at the George R. Brown Convention Center in Houston, September 25-27, 2009.  This is an everything Italian exhibit for the public to experiece apparel, wine, luxury cars, products, art and entertainment.   
You don't have to Italy for gelato, it's suppose to be at the expo, we'll see if its as good...I hope so!

2009: Galveston Historic Homes Tour - 05/07/09 03:48 PM
                                                                       

This year the Galveston Historic tour of homes will be on the weekends of May 2nd and 3rd and May 9th and 10th from 10am until 6pm.  There will be 10 homes dating from 1816 to 1904 on the tour, most of the homes have damage of some sort for various reasons.  some are survivors of the Great Storm of 1900, others of Hurricane Ike.  Some have survived fire, collapsing foundations and tornadoes.  Galveston is undergoing a change due to the damage from Ike, and this is "Celebrating Galveston's Rebirth".

Here is a list of the National Kitchen and Bath Association's Top 10 Trends for 2009.

1) Steel counters for kitchen counters.  For a very sleek and contemporary look.
2) Glass Elements.  Used for backsplashes, counters and even floors and showers.
3) Stone Hearths.  Used around the stove as a design element to give some texture
to a room.
4) Black and White Kitchens.  Using white marble and black cabinets for an ethereal feel.
5) Chrome is Back.  Using chrome in bathroom fixtures and hardware is becoming popular again.

The yearly Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo will be starting March 3 and go through the 22nd at Reliant Park.  This is one of Houston's biggest events and there are a ton of things to do, and see.  There will be children's activities, dining, shopping and carnival rides, concerts and more entertainment than you can imagine.  Not to mention the actual rodeo!
