An Inconvenient Truth About Real Estate Licensees - 06/28/10 09:05 AM
Far too many real estate licensees unapologetically inflate their level of licensing. (If your real estate license actually reads "Agent" then good for you. The public is not being misled when you advertise yourself as an Agent.) Real estate licensees often mislead the public about the type of license they hold. Not content to advertise themselves as "salesperson" or "sales associate" or the term on their government issued license, they arbitrarily advertise themselves as "agents". The legislation governing real estate licensing in most jurisdictions uses Agent, Agency, Broker or Brokerage to signify the top level of licensing. The average consumer equates "agent" with agency, which implies representation. But a salesperson is not the agency nor the brokerage. (8 comments)

As a New Brunswick real estate professional over the years I've advised executors and executrices. Now for the first time in my life it became my duty to administer an estate. Specifically in this case as an "estate trustee" under Ontario law. The major part of the estate was a principal residence in Port Hope, Northumberland County, Ontario. My top criteria for selecting a real estate representative to market the real property was that I wanted no part of dual agency. I wanted a guarantee of single agency representation. I know that would pretty much rule out any large agency/brokerage. I looked first on ActiveRain and found (4 comments)
