One thing about working in real estate that I absolutely love, is finding the best things to say about local communities. Where people live is a part of their identity. When I talk about how wonderful my community is people think I'm just saying that because I'm a realtor and I'm trying to convince them to move. That is why it is so nice when national, unbiased studies, praise your as well market.

There were recently three national reports praising Utah. The first is a recent Gallup poll that says Utah is poised to be be the best state in the U.S. to live in. The second national report came from the Wall Street Journal and pointed to Utah's economic resilience compared to other national trends. Finally, a list compiled by CNN Money included 4 Utah cities on their list of top 100 cities in the United States.

The Gallup Poll said that Utah is 'poised' to be the best state to live in. Of course that's looking into the future, but they awarded us this prestigious rank based on 13 current areas. These included standard of living, economic confidence index, job creation, how easy it is to find clean/safe water, smoking rate, and supervisors who treat employees like a partner not a boss. Together these 13 qualities painted a bright future for life in Utah.

The story from the Wall Street Journal indicated that many states across the nation are slashing money for services. However, Utah is 'bucking this national trend'. They refer to Utah's solid workforce and below-average unemployment rate as contributing factors that have helped Utah stay strong. Another factor that has helped Utah's economic health is a rise in the average personal income. Which is always nice to hear after pushing through this hard market.

The CNN list ranked cities across the United States based on economic strength, quality of health care, crime rate, quality of schools, and available activities. It was exciting to see 4 of Utah's cities on the top 100 list. It was especially nice to see South Jordan, my own city, in the top 20.

South Jordan
CNNMoney point to fast growth, the Daybreak community, low crime rate, healthy job market, a wealth of outdoor activities, and the lowest divorce rate (4.6%) of any other city on the list, as reasons that South Jordan is a great city to live in. Again I tout these wonderful features dailey to prospective buyers, and it sure is nice to have these outside sources confirming what I've been saying.
  • Median family income (per year): $86,004
  • Annual cost of living: $101,377
  • Job growth (2000-2011) 95.16%
  • Median home price: $255,982 (current homes for sale)
  • Median age: 29.1
