Fairfax, Virginia gets its name from Thomas Fairfax, 6th Lord Fairfax of Cameron, who was given given five million acres of land by King Charles which encompasses all of Fairfax County.  The City of Fairfax (later changed to be called the Town of Fairfax) was settled in 1805.  Lord Fairfax was both in 1693 in Kent, England, and was the only actual royal landowner resident of colonial America, and made his home in present day Fort Belvoir in 1747.  His efforts were to collect ground rents and develop and sell the land to help maintain an expensive lifestyle and maintain Leeds … (2 comments)

It has just been announced by the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority that the Fairfax County Virginia Dulles metro extension the airport is going to be built underground.  The vote was 9 to 4 in favor, and the topic has been widely debated during the past year. 

Transportation officials from both Fairfax and Loudoun counties lobbied for building above ground, which reportedly would cost $300 million less than building underground. I'm dealing with this issue today with my clients (their finding and wanting to see Foreclosures that are on RealtyTrac).  But there is no history of the homes every haveing been listed.  It's a shame to waste our buyer's time this way - and the Realtors time, who then has to go and research the property status to no avail!  Thanks, Tom and Gina, for providing the answer I needed at the touch of a button - and thank you, ActiveRain!
