new agents: She's Got Bats in Her Belfry...and Her REALTOR Will Pay!!! - 04/10/07 12:42 AM
So I was poking around the local news this morning because, unlike all of my friends,  I watch the news relentlessly.  Apparently, I can't get tear myself away from the suffering that goes on around the world.
But, just when you think bad things only happen in other countries you read something interesting.  A woman in a neighboring town recently bought a home, a fixer-upper.  Her REALTOR told her it was sold as is and she SHOULD NOT have an inspection.  WHAT????  WHAT????
Anywho, the woman had the home looked at and, sure enough, there are 3000ish bats live in her home.  … (10 comments)

new agents: Going into Real Estate - Is it for you? - 03/18/07 03:40 AM
I had my son's basketball team over for lunch yesterday.  We grilled out in the backyard and it was wonderful.  The boys were outside playing basketball and football around the yard.  We adults were on the deck in the backyard or inside watching whatever March Madness was on at the time.  Lord love Carolina!!  We better step up our game in the next few rounds!!
I  had promised my children, NO real estate on Saturday.  No voice mail, no email, nothing.  They were thrilled!  Then the coach's wife mentions that she is finishing up her real estate class.  She looked at me … (9 comments)

new agents: Who says openhouses are not productive! - 01/30/07 01:23 AM
When I was new in the real estate world I joined a company that advocated getting your face out there.  Well, when you are new you have to be creative without getting discouraged when sometimes it seems like no one wants to see your face "out there."

I held open one of her listings in a popular neighborhood in Harrisburg hoping for ANY traffic.  Our open houses are not the "multiple-offer-at-the- end-of-the-day" type open houses.  We really want the nosy neighbors or ANYONE to show up … (17 comments)

new agents: What is the REAL MEAT of our job? - 01/25/07 02:14 AM
I have read several posts lately about our jobs, right out of the gate, being mostly lead generation, prospecting, finding folks to buy homes, and helping them to find us with as little money spent as possible.  One comment to a post said, "lead generation, that is the real meat of our jobs."
One of my CRS instructors last fall said that "we are prospectors.  That is what we do."
I agree, if the business isn't there then we don't have a business so I give that to you, however, the meat of our jobs is so much more than that. I firmly … (1 comments)

new agents: What successful agents do - 01/08/07 11:46 PM
I had an instructor along the way who said, "Successful agents do what unsuccessful agents feel is a waste of time."  Successful gents do what unsuccessful agents feel is a waste of time.  Hmmmm.
You know it is the truth.  What do we hate to do?  Preview, make phone calls, write personal notes, etc.  What do successful agents do?  Preview, make phone calls, write personal notes, etc.
BASICS!!!!  So don't forget:
Preview Homes - because when someone calls you and asks about a home that is entirely overpriced or in a rough neighborhood or in poor condition you can say, "That is a lovely … (6 comments)
