Aiming to clamp down on benami transactions, the government is set to give more teeth to the Benami Transactions (Prohibition) Act, 1988. The proposed amendments to the Act, which are being given finishing touches, seek to redefine a benami property as one belonging to a non-existent person without known sources of income.
A confiscating authority will be set up as per the provisions of the Act. The authority will be empowered to deem (or, hold) a property benami and confiscate it if the owner does not have a proven source of earning.
In order to contain the opposition from farmers in aggregating lands to launch a Special Economic Zone, Gurgaon based-Raheja Developers Ltd has adopted an unique method. The company gave the farmers, whose land it is acquiring, an option to own around 15240 sq ft built up area for every acre of land given to the project.

On Wednesday, Delhi Development Authority (DDA) will start accepting applications for the 5010 flats it has put up for allotment through a random draw of lots. Expecting a massive turnout, DDA has printed five lakh brochures which will be sold for Rs 100. In 2006, DDA received nearly 1.90 lakh applications for the 3000 flats up for allotment.
Under the DDA Housing Scheme-2008, 5010 flats are being put up for allotment through a computerised process wherein every application after scrutiny will be allotted a random number to prevent irregularities and keep the process foolproof. The data will be (1 comments)
It has been a month since the under-construction apartments at the Commonwealth Games Village were thrown open for sale, without any announcement or advertising. The response from the buyers has, nevertheless, been enthusiastic with almost 80 per cent of the 300-odd apartments on sale already booked, according to industry officials.
Costing Rs.2 crore for the smallest (two-bedroom) ones to Rs.5 crore for the largest (five bedroom) ones, the apartments are being built by Emaar-MGF under licence from the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) and are being sold at a base price of Rs.12,500-12,750 per sq ft.
