This year the Lackawaxen River was voted the river of the year. There will be various activities scheduled thoughout the year but the one that caught my interest first is the Lackawaxen River Sojourn June 12th-14th. It's Springtime now and a great time to start getting your bike ready; perhaps you need a tune-up and/or you need to make sure your tires have the correct air pressure in them. It's wise to carry a small pump and tube with you; have everything necessary in case of a flat tire. Local bike shops will usually offer advice on what to do in case of a flat tire or clinics are sometimes held at bike shops.

Spring is here officially! Some spring symbols are eggs, chickens, green and flowers.
Spring Vernal Equinox is one of two days where the sunlight and darkness are exactly equal.
It's time to start thinking about what flowers to plant. Here in Northeast Pennsylvania we have a lot of hungry deer and it is good to be aware of the deer resistant plants and flowers. Fishing at Hemlock Farms
In February, members of the Fishing and Boating Club of the Hemlock Farms Community of Lords Valley, built structures to be placed in Hemlock Lake to create fish habitats. Pallets were placed together so that evergreen trees could be placed inside of them. The structures are on the ice but as the ice melts, they will sink to the bottom of the lake. I had the privilege of spending all of my summers since I was a child at our lakefront cabin on Sunny Point which is a community on Lake Wallenpaupack. We have had four generations of families enjoying the many activities there such as swimming, sailing, hiking and cross country skiing being the most recent one! One of my fondest memories was kayaking from Sunny Point to Ehrhardt's restaurant which is on the other side of the lake. On the way we may see an eagle or osprey flying overhead. The black bear is awake in Pike Co, Pa - 03/16/10 01:04 PM
It is time to watch your garbage again, the hungury black bear is back, awake and looking for food. You ask, how does she know this, very simple, my 2 labs treed a bear the other afternoon. Lucky for the dogs, this bear was not very aggresive. I am sorry that I didn't have my camara handy, because that would have been a great picture. Have a great day on this sunny afternoon.

If it looks and feels like Spring, then Spring must be just around the corner. Remember, this weekend is time to turn the clock ahead. If you can't remember which way the clock goes, it is spring ahead and fall behind. This is a cute saying to remember.
Even with this lovely weather, the ski hills are still open for skiing. The last snow we got two weeks ago added to help the slopes. There are still some nice homes for sale in Masthope Mountain, and remember to all those skiers, free skiing when you own a home in Masthope.

Winter in the community of Hemlock Farms, in Pike County, is a wonderful place to be. Besides taking in the frosted snow covered grounds, there are plenty of winter sports such as sledding, ice skating and cross country skiing which is my favorite. There is a 3 mile loop to ski or hike and Hemlock Farms offers discount ski tickets at the office.
