You see them from time-to-time.  The 'Welcome to (insert state). Now Go Home' bumper stickers.  I just saw one on a shiny, brand-spanking new pick-up truck at the local market.  The driver had on the latest snowboarder outfit (for lack of a better term), and I bet if I peeked in the back of the truck I would have seen the newest riding gear, too. Probably all paid for with wages earned catering to the vacationers and visitors who flock to the Granite State's ski resorts.  Ski resorts that couldn't afford to stay open if weren't for the tourists.

No rain here...snow falling at Waterville Valley - 03/14/10 08:01 AM
It may be raining where you are, but not at Waterville Valley ski resort!   The snow starts as you drive up the access road to the ski area. One inch has fallen so far on the mountain, and more is forecasted!  48 trails plus all 5 glades, terrain parks and Exhibition's Superpipe are open.  
Today is the last event of the Junior Freestyle Olympics at Waterville Valley - the dual moguls.  This is a great day to head to the slopes AND to watch some amazing freestyle athletes - and future Olympians?! - in person.

If you watched the Vancouver Winter Olympics (and who didn't?!), you may have noticed that a freestyle skier with signature pigtails popping out of her helmet - Hannah Kearney - won the first gold medal for the United States.  New Englanders, and New Hampshirites in particular, are beyond excited because Hannah's a hometown girl.  She is a member of the Waterville Valley Black and Blue Trail Smashers ski club, better known as BBTS, and has been coached by legendary freestyle coach, Nick Preston, of Waterville Valley, NH.  Learn more about the history of freestyle skiing - and its birth right here … (0 comments)
