The topic of discussion was green ideas to save energy while reducing our impact on the atmosphere

Concord, NH - Several experts in various industries came together to speak at a workshop where participants exchanged green ideas to help the planet and reduce energy consumption.

Webb Dickson, owner of Dryer Vent Wizard, spoke about clothes dryers. "Of course the greenest of clothes dryers is the clothesline; however, this is not considered an option for people today. There are several things you can do to keep your clothes dryer operating efficiently. At the same time, you will be preventing a dryer fire."

Webb discussed proper dryer exhaust maintenance; "The number one green idea for clothes dryers is to clean dryer vents. Dryer vent cleaning removes lint build-up to allow proper airflow; this is the most important thing you can do to make your dryer operate efficiently."

A lot of green ideas were exchanged and all participants left with pages of notes and ideas for them to implement in their lives. To read more green ideas for the laundry room, visit http://dryerventcleaningconcordnh.blogspot.com/

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission reported over 15,000 fires annually, resulting in deaths, injuries and expense. Fires can occur when lint builds up in the dryer or in the exhaust duct, blocking the flow of air and causing excessive heat build-up, eventually causing fires. Dryer Vent Wizard provides services to ensure your clothes dryer is operating safely and efficiently. Visit http://www.nhdryervent.com to learn more.

Webb Dickson receives letters of appreciation from his customers as he takes the time to explain proper dryer vent maintenance to prevent dryer fires

Dryer Vent Cleaning and Maintenance Tips from the Concord, MA Wizard

Being a homeowner is a lot of responsibility; there is always something that needs attention, including yard maintenance, appliance maintenance, plumbing, electrical and much more! It all can be very overwhelming; some important things are often forgotten.

Homeowners often neglect to properly maintain their clothes dryer vent. We throw in a load of wet laundry, set the dial and take it for granted as it usually gives us the result we are looking for; dry clothes. Annual dryer vent cleaning is necessary to promote maximum air flow for the dryer to operate efficiently.

Unless you're one of the unfortunate people who have experienced a dryer fire you probably don't give it much thought. Do you know that over 15,000 dryer fires are reported every year? Most of these fires are caused by failure to clean dryer vents.

Your dryer vent system removes the moisture, heat and lint from your laundry as it dries. If you have a gas dryer, it also removes gas by-products, including carbon monoxide that you don't want leaking into your home.

The lint screen only traps about 60% of the lint removed from tumbling laundry. The other 40% escapes into your dryer vent system where it builds up and restricts air flow. As the lint builds up, heat and moisture cannot escape and clothes take longer to dry.

Sticky, moist lint attracts more lint as it builds up in the dryer vent system. Lint is flammable; a dryer fire will spread very quickly. A professional dryer vent cleaning specialist can inspect your system to be sure it meets today's safety codes. Not only is dryer vent cleaning essential; proper installation using the right type of venting material is important to ensure safety.

Webb Dickson owns Dryer Vent Wizard in New Hampshire. He provides dryer vent cleaning, dryer vent repair and dryer vent installation for homes and businesses while educating his customers on the importance of proper maintenance to prevent fires and save energy while prolonging the life of their appliance.

Clean Clothes Dryer Vents Reduce Damage to Environment Says the Wizard of New Hampshire

Of course the greenest of clothes dryers is the clothesline; however, this is not considered an option for most people today. So the thing to do is be conservative with the clothes dryer to reduce harmful impact to our environment while reducing energy cost.

Clean Clogged Dryer Vents

When you clean the lint filter after each load, notice how much lint is on it; realize that this is only about 60% of the lint that was removed from laundry; the other 40% escaped into the back of the dryer and the dryer ducts. Dryer vent cleaning is recommended annually to prevent excessive lint build-up.

Clogged dryer vents reduce air flow, causing your dryer to work harder and run longer to dry a load of laundry. This is a waste of energy. Clogged dryer vents cause your dryer to cost an additional $300 per year to operate.

Failure to clean dryer vents is the number one cause of dryer fires; over 15,000 occur each year. Take steps to reduce lint build up and have professional dryer vent cleaning performed annually to keep your dryer operating safely and efficiently.

Don't Over-load the Dryer

Over-loading the dryer causes wear on the appliance due to the weight being more than the dryer was designed to handle. It reduces the efficiency of the dryer because air needs to circulate between the clothes for them to dry.

Dry heavier items separate from light weight clothes and do back to back, full loads of laundry. Don't allow the dryer to cool down between loads; take advantage of the pre-heated dryer to start the next load.

When the time comes to purchase a new dryer, choose one with a cool-down cycle and automatic dry cycle. New dryers have moisture sensors that automatically stop your dryer when clothes are dry. This reduces drying time, saves energy and prolongs the life of your clothing as it prevents over-drying.

Proper use of the dryer and cleaning dryer vents will reduce wear on the appliance, prevent premature repairs, save energy and prevent a dryer fire. That's a huge savings compared to the cost of professional dryer vent cleaning. Dryer manufacturers recommend dryer vents be cleaned annually to keep your dryer operating safely and efficiently.

Webb Dickson owns Dryer Vent Wizard, your single source for all your dryer vent needs; DVW provides dryer vent cleaning, dryer vent repair, and dryer vent installation for homes and businesses in New Hampshire and Middlesex and Essex County, Massachusetts. Visit http://www.nhdryervent.com

Dryer Vent Cleaning is Key to Preventing Dryer Fires in Derry, New Hampshire

Dryer vent cleaning is often overlooked by homeowners when performing regular appliance maintenance. Failure to clean dryer vents is the leading cause of over 15,000 dryer fires reported annually causing injury, death and nearly $100 million in property damages. Considering these staggering numbers, the fee for dryer vent cleaning is little compared to the loss experienced after a dryer fire.

Other causes of dryer fires include storing combustible material near the dryer, mechanical and electrical problems and the use of vinyl, plastic or flexible foil for dryer vents. This used to be acceptable; however, UL safety standards have changed. Dryer vents should be made of rigid or semi-rigid metal.

Here are some tips for consumers to prevent dryer fires and to protect themselves in the event of a fire:

Keep a working fire extinguisher designed for use in the laundry area

Test smoke alarms and replace batteries periodically

Clean the lint screen after each load of laundry

Wash the lint screen every few months with soap and water to remove residue build-up from dryer sheets

Line dry rags soaked in combustible chemicals; even if they have been washed some residue can remain

Store flammable materials away from the clothes dryer

Annual dryer vent cleaning and professional maintenance is recommended

Have the dryer vent system inspected to be sure it is up to current safety codes

Use only semi-rigid or solid metal material for dryer ducts

Be sure the dryer vent system is properly installed; it should be as short as possible with few turns

Check the vent outside for signs of blockage, freezing or damage

Develop and practice a fire escape plan with family members in the event of a house fire

Clothes dryers are the most likely appliance to cause a fire if not properly maintained. The best person to perform dryer vent cleaning and maintenance is one who specializes in dryer vent systems. It is not recommended that you use a furnace duct cleaning company to do the job. A dryer vent professional will also clean inside the clothes dryer and be sure that it is working safely and efficiently, preventing fires and saving energy.

Webb Dickson is the owner of Dryer Vent Wizard of New Hampshire. He specializes in all dryer exhaust issues. Read more about dryer fire prevention and energy savings at http://dryerventcleaningmanchesternh.blogspot.com/

Dryer Vent Cleaning Specialist Appreciated by Manchester, NH Consumers

Webb Dickson provides more than just good service; he educates his customers on proper dryer vent and exhaust maintenance to prevent fires and save money on utility bills

Manchester, NH--Clothes dryers are a wonderful convenience, but they do require maintenance to assure safety in homes. The National Fire Prevention Administration reports over 15,000 fires annually, costing millions of dollars, many injuries and loss of lives. Consumers in New Hampshire appreciate Webb Dickson, owner of Dryer Vent Wizard serving Hampshire and Massachusetts.

In addition to dryer vent cleaning and dryer exhaust service, Dryer Vent Wizard technicians explain proper maintenance and installation to their customers. They recommend dryer vents to be as short as possible and contain few bends and turn which can inhibit venting and cause lint to build up and clog the vent. Dryer Vent Wizard does not use sheet metal screws to join sections of dryer exhaust ducts together. They use foil tape instead to eliminate protuberances that catch and trap lint.

According to Dryer Vent Wizard, in addition to being a fire hazard, clogged dryer vents cost consumers and additional $18 - $24 per month in energy bills. It is not normal for a dryer to take several cycles to properly dry clothes. When drying time is longer than normal, this may be a sign that the lint screen or the exhaust duct is blocked. Webb Dickson provides tips and information for consumers at http://dryerventcleaningnashuanh.blogspot.com/

Dryer Vent Cleaning Cures Most Dryer Ailments, according to Webb Dickson of Newburyport, MA

Recent customer is both surprised and relieved when she learns that there is nothing wrong with her clothes dryer; it's the dryer duct and vent assembly

Newburyport, MA - Webb Dickson, owner of Dryer Vent Wizard was recently acknowledged by a happy customer who called him to fix her clothes dryer. She was unaware that she had called a dryer vent cleaning company; not an appliance repair service. As it turned out, dryer vent cleaning was exactly what she needed to have done; there was nothing wrong with the clothes dryer.

At a recent interview, Webb said, "My customer thought she needed a new dryer because hers was taking longer to dry clothes and it seemed to be running much hotter. There was no doubt in my mind that the dryer ducts were obstructed and the dryer was not venting properly."

Webb was pleased to see that the existing dryer duct was short and almost straight; only one slight bend, and it was metal; not plastic or vinyl. "When I took it apart, I did find lint build-up and I was disappointed to see that the parts were joined with screws that protruded to the inside of the duct, easily catching lint. The inside of the duct should be smooth; parts should not be joined with screws."

Webb talked about how he explains to all of his customers how the dryer duct and vent system works and why air-flow is necessary to keep it working safely and efficiently. "My service is not complete until my customer understands the importance of proper maintenance between my annual visits," said Webb. "Not only was my customer happy to learn that she did not need an expensive repair job on her dryer; she was also thankful that we corrected the problem before she had a fire."

As the interview concluded, Webb said, "There are several things that can cause a dryer vent system to be inefficient. We do a complete inspection and make the necessary corrections to be sure the dryer gets the maximum air-flow it needs to function properly."

Don't be so Quick to Replace your Clothes Dryer - Dryer Vent Cleaning fixes Most Problems says the Newburyport Wizard

Are you considering purchasing a new clothes dryer just because the one you have seems to be working less efficiently? Did you recently notice that it takes more than one cycle to dry a load? Do clothes feel hot when you remove them or do they have a moldy smell?

All these are signs that point to an air-flow and venting problem, not the clothes dryer. There isn't a lot that can go wrong with a dryer as long as it has a proper dryer duct and vent system, free from lint build-up. Venting and air-flow are the most essential items needed for a dryer to perform efficiently.

Proper venting prevents overheating as the heat escapes to the vent outdoors. Dryer lint is the culprit when air-flow is restricted. When the dryer ducts become clogged with lint, heat and moisture have no where to go; therefore, cannot escape the dryer drum which is full of your wet laundry.

Before replacing the clothes dryer, check your dryer vent system. It probably needs a good cleaning. Chances are, it will need to be replaced if it is not one that meets today's safety standards. Manufacturers recommend semi-rigid metal instead of the vinyl and plastic type that was used in the past.

Another commonly made mistake is joining different sections of venting with screws that protrude to the inside, catching lint. The inside of the dryer vent system should be very smooth, to help prevent lint from sticking. Of course, all dryer vents require cleaning at least once a year to remove lint before it builds up.

When the dryer ducts are clogged with lint, the system over heats, the dryer labors and eventually, you could have a fire. The lint adds fuel to a rapidly spreading fire.

Dryer vent cleaning and proper installation of the dryer duct and exhaust system will ensure optimum air-flow for your clothes dryer to operate safely and efficiently. A properly vented dryer will not strain and over-work to do its job; therefore, saving energy and preventing a dryer fire.

This article was written by Webb Dickson, owner of Dryer Vent Wizard. Webb professionally inspects and cleans dryer vents for homeowners and in commercially-owned buildings. Poorly maintained dryer vents are fire hazards and cause clothes dryers to cost substantially more to operate. Learn more at http://www.massdryervent.com/

Consumers in Essex County, Thank Dryer Vent Cleaning Company for Home and Money Saving Tips

Clothes dryers with venting problems are a leading cause of house fires costing millions of dollars annually

Gloucester, MA--Clothes dryers are a wonderful invention, but they do require maintenance to assure safety in homes. The National Fire Prevention Administration reports over 15,000 fires annually, costing millions of dollars, many injuries and loss of lives. Consumers in Essex County have been emailing DVW to thank them for their advice and safety tips offered on their website.

Dryer Vent Wizard advises proper maintenance and installation; dryer vents should be as short as possible and contain few bends and turn which can inhibit venting and cause lint to build up and clog the vent. Dryer Vent Wizard does not advise use of sheet metal screws when attaching multiple sections of vent pipe together. They use foil tape instead to eliminate protuberances that cause obstructions where lint can accumulate, eventually leading to a restriction which hampers dryer vent cleaning and allows lint to build up.

According to Dryer Vent Wizard, in addition to being a fire hazard, clogged dryer vents cost consumers an additional $200 - 300 per year in energy costs. It is not normal for a dryer to take several cycles to properly dry clothes. When drying time is longer than normal, this may be a sign that the lint screen or the exhaust duct is blocked, causing your dryer to work harder. Dryer Vent Wizard advises consumers to try removing the dryer vent tubing while drying one or two loads of laundry to see if drying time improves, to test for a venting problem being the likely cause.

Dryer Vent Wizard professionally inspects and cleans clothing dryers for homeowners and in commercially-owned buildings Middlesex and Essex County, Ma and all of New Hampshire. Poorly maintained dryer vents are fire hazards and cause clothes dryers to cost substantially more to operate. Visit http://dryerventcleaningessexcounty.blogspot.com/ to learn more.

Dryer Vent Cleaning Expert, Webb Dickson, Concord, Massachusetts Urges Annual Dryer Vent Cleaning

Webb is still emotional over the tragic death of a local mother of four which was caused by a poorly maintained clothes dryer vent

Webb Dickson interviewed last summer; he responded to a news report of a recent dryer fire that took the life of a mother of four. The courageous woman died after saving her daughters while her two boys were able to climb out a window and have neighbors call 911. Unfortunately, the woman was unable to escape before firefighters could respond. "Dryer vent lint is very combustible and a fire will burn hot and spread quickly," Webb explained. "I was very saddened by this news; this tragedy could have easily been prevented. Most people are not aware that their clothes dryer is more likely to cause a fire than their furnace or stove."

Webb Dickson is the owner of Dryer Vent Wizard, a company who specializes in dryer vent cleaning and repair. DVW is the nation's top dryer vent cleaning company with over 50 franchises across the United States. The company has made it mandatory that all service technicians educate their customers on dryer fire prevention while providing excellent service.

Webb Dickson said, "My job is not complete until my customer understands how their dryer vent system works and how they can help to maintain it between my annual visits. Our primary goal is safety so when we arrive at the customer's home, we will perform a 10 point inspection, including air flow and temperature measurements, to assess the current situation. We write up our findings and review them in depth with the customer to ensure that they understand what we found and what we propose be done," Webb explained.

Webb concluded the interview by offering tips to prevent dryer fires and warning signs to look for. "The obvious maintenance tip is keeping the lint screen clean between loads of laundry," said Dickson. "It's also very important to be sure the material used for the dryer vent system meets local codes and UL safety standards. If your clothes dryer is taking more than one cycle to dry a load of laundry, this is a serious warning sign. Most people think this is normal for older clothes dryers, but it is rarely a sign of a mechanical problem. Lint build-up causes reduced air flow, therefore, the heat and moisture is unable to escape to the vent outdoors, so the hot moist air remains in the dryer drum, causing the dryer to work harder and eventually overheat and cause a fire."

Dryer Vent Wizard, Dry Clothes, Safe Homes, is an accredited member of the BBB and they support the National Fire Prevention Association. Each technician comes fully trained, and each van is stocked with the proper tools to solve any dryer vent problem from simple cleaning to installation of a complete new system. Visit http://www.massdryervent.com/ for more information and to order service.

Dryer fires cause over 15,000 dryer fires annually. Webb Dickson, owner of Dryer Vent Wizard of Massachusetts was recently interviewed. "Failure to clean dryer vents is a major contributor to clothes dryer fires," said Dickson. "Lint clogged dryer vent systems not only cause fires; they make the dryer to work harder, use more energy, and cost more to operate."

Dryer Vent Wizard provides advice to consumers to minimize the risk of dryer fires. They advise consumers to be sure the dryer vent systems are up to code with the city, state and manufacturer by replacing any plastic or foil vent systems with semi-rigid or solid metal venting. "I make sure my customers understand how their dryer vent system works and that they are aware of warning signs of trouble," said Dickson. "My job is not complete my customer knows how to maintain the vent system between annual visits."

The warning signs Webb mentioned are clothes taking more than one cycle to dry, especially jeans and towels, no visible lint on the lint screen, dryer repeatedly stops during a cycle, clothing having a moldy smell after a dry cycle, and clothing being very hot after a dry cycle. Webb explained that all of these are warnings of a fire hazard.

Dryer Vent Cleaning: Consumers in Manchester, New Hampshire Appreciate Dryer Vent Wizard for Dryer Vent Cleaning Service and Tips on Dryer Fire Prevention

Clothes dryers with venting problems are a leading cause of house fires

Manchester, NH--Clothes dryers are a wonderful invention, but they do require maintenance to assure safety in homes. The National Fire Prevention Administration reports over 15,000 fires annually, costing millions of dollars, many injuries and loss of lives. Webb Dickson, owner of Dryer Vent Wizard receives letters and emails from customers thanking him for taking the time to share tips on dryer fire prevention.

Webb Dickson advises all his customers that proper maintenance and installation of dryer vent systems is important. Webb explains, "dryer vents should be as short as possible and contain few bends and turns which can inhibit venting and cause lint to build up and clog the vent." Dryer Vent Wizard does not advise use of sheet metal screws when attaching multiple sections of vent pipe together. They use foil tape instead to eliminate protuberances that cause obstructions where lint can accumulate, eventually leading to a restriction which hampers dryer vent cleaning and allows lint to build up.

Webb also tells his customers that in addition to being a fire hazard, clogged dryer vents cost an additional $18 - $24 per month in energy usage. When drying time is longer than normal, this may be a sign that the lint screen or the exhaust duct is blocked.

Dryer Vent Wizard professionally inspects and cleans clothing dryers for homeowners and in commercially-owned buildings. Poorly maintained dryer vents are fire hazards and cause clothes dryers to cost substantially more to operate. Check http://www.nhdryervent.com for more information or to schedule service.

Webb Dickson, Billerica, Massachusetts Speaks about Dryer Vent Cleaning and Fire Prevention

Webb was very upset when local news reported a mother of four dying as a result of a clothes dryer fire

Webb Dickson was recently interviewed where he responded to a news report of a recent dryer fire that took the life of a mother of four. The woman died after saving her two daughters. Her two boys were able to climb out a window and have neighbors call 911.

Webb Dickson is the owner of Dryer Vent Wizard, a national dryer vent cleaning and repair company with over 50 franchises across the United States. They specialize in dryer vent cleaning, repairs, alterations and installations while educating consumers on dryer vent maintenance and fire prevention.

Gena R. Brown, a Lexington woman known for her devotion to her children and for enjoying rides on a motorcycle, died Saturday Sept. 13 after saving her two daughters from a dryer fire that ignited their home.

Brown, 48, yelled for her daughters to get out, as the fire tore through the house on Paul Revere Road in the early hours of the morning. Jordan and Kendal Brown, ages 10 and 12, climbed out a second floor window and warned neighbors to call 911. Brown was unable to escape before firefighters arrived at 5 a.m. The fire is believed to be the result of lint buildup in a clothes dryer.

A mother of three, Brown was active and involved, taking her children to hockey, cheerleading and dance. She was also known to surprise her children, making spontaneous travel plans to go Martha's Vineyard or Nantucket for the weekend.

"Her children were her life," said longtime friend Dawn MacKerron of Belmont.

Brown's close-knit group of friends, whom she called the "Friday Night Girls," describe her as an outgoing, vivacious, and energetic personality. She rode a Harley Davidson motorcycle and played softball with the Moms on the Mound in Lexington. Brown loved to cook and throw dinner parties, said friend MacKerron. Her favorite dish was an Armenian dessert called "kadayif."

An avid golfer and gardener, Brown was a "friend who would give any part of herself to those she loved," said Jeanne E. Borelli. "In this tragic case, she gave herself to her children like the great mother she always was."

Brown had worked as a sonographer, or ultrasound technician, at Newton-Wellesley Hospital since January, where co-workers described her as a team player who cared deeply for her patients.

Brown was born on Oct. 19, 1959, in Dayton, Ohio to Gerald Newkirk and the late Peggy Newkirk. She grew up Schererville, Indiana where she attended Lake Central High School. She graduated from Indiana University in 1981 with a degree in marketing.

After college, Brown moved to California where she worked as a sales person for Pitney-Bowes and later as a loan originator. She moved to Massachusetts in the late 1980s and married Jim Brown of Belmont, in the early 90s. After their divorce, she went back to school at Middlesex Community College and in 2005 she earned her license as a diagnostic medical sonographer.

She moved to Lexington with her two girls in 2001. Her 15-year-old son Jake lives with his father Jim, in Belmont.

Brown is survived by her three children, Jake, Kendal, and Jordan, her father, Gerald Newkirk, her stepsister, Dede Lush, ex-husband Jim Brown, nieces and nephews, and many loving friends.

A memorial service in Gena's honor will be held Friday, Sept. 19, at 11 a.m. at Grace Chapel, 59 Worthen Rd., Lexington, with arrangements by Bedrosian Funeral Home.

Donations in Brown's memory may be made to the Gena R. Brown Children's Education Fund, c/o Belmont Savings Bank, 2 Leonard St., Belmont, MA 02478. Proceeds will go toward financing the education of her three children.

Advice from “Dryer Vent Repair” Company – Claremont, NH – “Dryer Vent Cleaning” to Keep Critters out

If you have mice in your house, you have probably called exterminators or tried your own critter traps to get rid of the pests. But this is just a temporary solution until more critters come in. The only effective way to get rid of them for good is to stop them from getting into your home in the first place. The one major path of entry that mice have into your home is the dryer vent.

Go outside and check the dryer vent cover to be sure it is securely attached. There should be a mesh material or screen to keep small animals from getting into the dryer duct. Mice love to chew through things to see what is on the other side. Chipmunks and other small critters have also been known for their curiosity or they're drawn to the warmth of your dryer vent. Once they chew through to make a way in, others will follow.

Not only do the critters have a way into your home, but they also have a warm, cozy place to build a nest. Birds have also been known to build a nest in a dryer vent. The nest is in the path of air-flow and lint traveling out of the dryer. When air-flow is limited, lint builds up and accumulates to the point of complete obstruction, leading to the system overheating and causing a fire. Lint is very combustible; it doesn't take much for it to ignite.

Some dryer vent systems have very long dryer ducts leading out of the house because of the location of the laundry room. Maybe it isn't on an outside wall, or you may have second floor laundry. These systems may be difficult for the average homeowner to access all the duct work for a complete cleaning. It may be necessary to have a professional dryer vent cleaning service give your system a complete inspection and cleaning. Call a professional who specializes in dryer vent repair and cleaning. They have special tools to do an effective dryer vent cleaning, easily and if anything isn't up to code, the can fix it while they are there.

Franklin, NH--According to the US Fire Administration, dryer fires account for an average of $15,000 dryer fires annually. Webb Dickson, owner of Dryer Vent Wizard of New Hampshire said, "Failure to properly maintain dryer vents is a major contributor to clothes dryer fires." Dickson is franchise owner/operator of Dryer Vent Wizard (DVW), Dry Clothes, Safe Homes, a home service franchise serving all of New Hampshire and Middlesex and Essex Counties in Massachusetts.

Webb Dickson enters “Dryer Vent Repair” Business; Now he Educates Consumers in New Hampshire and Massachusetts on “Dryer Vent Cleaning” to Prevent Dryer Fires

Webb Dickson provides "dryer vent cleaning" and "dryer vent repair" services while educating his customers on fire safety and "dryer vent maintenance"

Concord, MA -. Webb Dickson traded in his career for a logo-ed uniform to own and operate a Dryer Vent Wizard, Safe Homes, Dry Clothes (DVW) franchise servicing New Hampshire and Middlesex and Essex Counties in Massachusetts.

DVW services prevent dryer fires, keep dryers functioning properly and provide energy savings through dryer and dryer vent cleaning, maintenance, repair, replacement and alterations.

When Dickson decided he didn't want to remain in his present career and he was not ready to retire, he looked into franchising. He researched several concepts and found Dryer Vent Wizard Dry Clothes, Safe Homes to be his career of choice. Webb found the concept intriguing and the career to be rewarding.

"I like that DVW provides much needed solutions to consumers' dryer and dryer vent problems which ultimately prevents dryer fires," says Dickson. "I make sure all my customers understand their dryer vent system and the importance of proper maintenance, before my job is complete. My customers appreciate my concern for their safety."

In an effort to make consumers more aware, Webb Dickson shares these maintenance "tips" to prevent dryer fires and keep dryers running efficiently. He urges consumers to be sure their dryer vent systems are up to code with the city, state and manufacturer, to replace any plastic or foil vents with semi-rigid or solid metal venting material, to keep lint trays clean and free of lint between loads, wash lint screens every few months to remove residue build-up from fabric softeners, and to have the dryer vent system professionally cleaned and inspected at least once a year. Webb also makes sure all his customers know not to leave the house or go to sleep with the dryer running.

Webb advises his customers to watch for certain warning signs of potential fire hazards, like clothes taking more than one cycle to dry, no visible lint on the screen between loads, dryer repeatedly stopping during a cycle and clothes having a moldy smell after drying.

“Dryer Vent Cleaning” and “Dryer Vent Repair” Company Offers Safety Tips to Consumers in Portsmouth, New Hampshire

Dryer fires account for over $9,000 in damage to residential buildings annually. For every 1,000 residential dryer fires, there are an average of 33 injuries and 1.2 deaths. Dryer fires peak during the winter months of November through March and occur most commonly between the hours of noon and nine in the evening. Failure to properly maintain dryer vents is the leading cause of dryer fires.

Other causes of dryer fires include improper venting material, storage of combustible material near the dryer and mechanical or electrical problems.

To ensure safety in the home and to prevent clothes dryer fires, consumers should take the following actions:

•· Keep a working fire extinguisher, designed for use in the laundry area

•· Test smoke detectors periodically, replacing batteries as needed

•· Clean lint screens before and after each load of laundry

•· Wash lint screens monthly with soap and water to remove residue buildup from dryer sheets

•· Use care with rags soaked with combustible chemicals; wash twice before drying, or line dry only

•· Keep flammable items stored away from the clothes dryer

•· Have your dryer vent system professionally inspected and cleaned annually

•· Make sure the dryer vent system is up to code according to city, state, and manufacturer requirements

•· Replace plastic or vinyl vents with semi-rigid or solid metal material

•· Be sure vent systems are as straight and short as possible to prevent buildup at elbows

•· Check the vent cover, outside, for signs of blockage, freezing, or damage

•· Develop a fire safety/emergency plan for the household, and rehearse it often

This article was written by Webb Dickson, owner of Dryer Vent Wizard, servicing the entire state of New Hampshire, Claremont, Lebanon, Nashua, Portsmouth, and Rochester-Dover and Middlesex and Essex Counties in Massachusetts, Amesbury, Bedford, Carlisle, Dunstable, Essex, Groveland, Hamilton, Littleton, Marblehead, Middleton, Natick, Reading, Shirley, Wayland and neighboring cities and communities. http://www.dryerventwizard.com provides dryer vent inspection, cleaning, repair and installation. Dryer vent service is all they do, so they are the experts!

"Dryer Vent Cleaning" Advice from Webb: Hidden Danger: Do you know What’s in Your Dryer Vent?

Have you ever thought of where all the lint and hot air from your clothes dryer goes as it works to dry your laundry? You probably think about the lint trap, that part that you can pull out to remove the lint after each load is completed. Sure, some of it goes there, but that is not a one-stop catch all for all the lint that comes off of your clothes. You need to get closer acquainted with your dryer duct and vent pipe.

The duct and vent on your dryer are the things that take all that hot air, and some lint and dust from your dryer, through your laundry room and then vent it outside.

Depending on where the dryer is in your home, the path your vent pipe and ductwork have to take could be a long one. If you have a home where the laundry room is near an interior bathroom, there is a vent pipe from that point to the edge of your house, sometimes 20-30 feet away.

Stuck Dust and Lint

Consider what happens to the dust that is getting pushed through the dryer vent system. While some of it will make it all the way outside, not all of it will be this lucky. Some of it will start to stick to the walls of the dryer vent. A little of this is not a problem, but it seems lint likes company and more and more will continue to grab on to the first pieces and make a larger clog.

Solid Lint

If you are in a humid area or there are major temperature changes, moisture can start to seep into the dryer vent and mix with the lint. This is a lethal combination. Once dust and lint get wet and dry they become something similar to dried mud on the inside of your dryer vent. While dry lint can be brushed away, once it's wet and solidifies, it's a harder job.

The Solution

The only solution is prevention and maintenance. You should make sure that the whole duct and vent line gets a complete check at least once a year. Maybe you can add it on to your list of spring-cleaning items.

If you have a large family and are always running clothes through the system, you may want to up that to twice a year.

Auburndale, Mass "Dryer Vent Cleaning" Company advises: Dryer Vent Lint Build-Up Causes Higer Utility Bills and Fire Hazard

Without proper maintenance, the dryer vent is a potential fire hazard for homeowners, though most are unaware the problem even exists. The result is venting systems that clog over time, with each load of laundry creating more of a hazard.

"It's hard for people to think of their clothes dryer as a fire hazard," said John Ryley, owner of the Dryer Vent Wizard (DVW), Dry Clothes, Safe Homes franchise, whose company specializes in maintaining, cleaning, repairing, replacing and altering dryer vents for residential and commercial consumers.

Clothes dryer fires account for 15,600 structure fires, 15 deaths and 400 injuries each year, with an estimated $88 million in property damage, according to the National Fire Data Center. Failure to clean lint out of the dryer vent is the leading cause.

"Most people don't realize that New York State Building Codes changed in 1999 to indicate that all dryer vent systems should be made of a rigid metal piping, because of the fire hazard," said Ryley. Even dryer manufacturers call for a rigid metal piping and an annual cleaning to prohibit the lint build-up that leads to fires, he says. Servicing the Long Island area, every day Riley sees the fire hazards with his own eyes. The systems in most homes he services use white plastic flexible hoses or silver foil, flexible hoses that are not up to code.

The lack of awareness concerning this issue is simply because dryer vent systems are often out of sight and out of mind. "Homeowners want the laundry area to be out of sight and near bedrooms and bathrooms," Ryley said. "While no one wants to drag laundry up and down the stairs, the reality is that longer venting cause dryers to work harder, take longer to dry clothes, and use more energy, creating a fire hazard."

According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), any vent over 25 feet is considered a fire hazard and installation of a booster fan is recommended. This helps dryers function safely and more efficiently and is one of the services DVW provides.

Ryley believes the solution to the problem is creating consumer awareness of the importance of maintaining dryers and dryer vents.

The most common sign of a venting problem is that clothes taking too long to dry. "If it takes more than one dryer cycle to get the towels dry, you may have a dryer vent problem," he said.

Here are some tips to help consumers prevent dryer fires
and reduce energy consumption:

Be sure that dryer vent systems are up to code with city, state and manufacturer.

Replace any plastic or foil vent with semi-rigid or solid metal venting.

Clean screen lint trays before and after drying a load.

Wash lint screens with soap and water every few months to remove residue left behind by fabric softeners.

Have dryer vents professionally cleaned and inspected annually.

Warning signs to look for:

Clothes are taking more than one cycle to dry, especially jeans and towels.

No lint is visible on the lint screen.

The dryer repeatedly stops during a cycle.

Clothes have a moldy smell after the dry cycle.

"Consumers who follow these guidelines," said Ryley, "create a safe environment in their home, prolong the life of their dryer and will lower their energy bills."

Dryer Vent Wizard, Safe Homes, Dry Clothes is the only national franchise to specialize exclusively in full service dryer venting solutions.
Consumers in New Hampshire, Thank "Dryer Vent Repair" Company for Encouraging Public Awareness in Fire Safety

Clothes dryers with venting problems are a leading cause of house fires costing millions of dollars annually

Concord, NH--Clothes dryers are a wonderful invention, but they do require maintenance to assure safety in homes. The National Fire Prevention Administration reports over 15,000 fires annually, costing millions of dollars, many injuries and loss of lives. Consumers in New Hampshire have been emailing DVW to thank them for their advice and safety tips offered on their website.

According to Dryer Vent Wizard, in addition to being a fire hazard, clogged dryer vents cost consumers $18 - $24 per month. It is not normal for a dryer to take several cycles to properly dry clothes. When drying time is longer than normal, this may be a sign that the lint screen or the exhaust duct is blocked. Dryer Vent Wizard advises consumers to try removing the dryer vent tubing while drying one or two loads of laundry to see if drying time improves, to test for a venting problem being the likely cause.
