Want to Really Save Money? Invest in a Laser Printer - 06/30/08 06:51 PM
We were like many agents starting out using our cheap ink jet printer.  Worked fine, quality was ok, and the ink cartridges seemed cheap enough.  We took the empties to Staples to recycle and got $3 each for them to be spent at Staples.
That was all well and good until we started doing more frequent and larger mailings in color.  Wow were we going through a LOT of ink cartridgs.  So I started doing searches for laser printers.  Looked into those massive ones that will do thousands upon thousands of copies and those were overkill.
We ended up coming across … (2 comments)

What the Heck is up with the Market? Anne Arundel County Home Sales - 06/15/08 06:40 PM
Anne Arundel County pretty much mirrors what is happening throughout Maryland and is actually one of the better performing areas. It may appear that homes are not selling, but they are, just fewer of them. A big problem is the high number of "short sales" and foreclosures is affecting what we call inventory level, or the number of houses that are available for sale. This graph that I got from Kirk Groves shows what has happened recently:

As you can see, homes are still selling, the savvy buyers are out now snapping up homes at bargain prices, but the inventory … (0 comments)

Summertime warning - watch your dog around ant traps! - 06/11/08 09:16 PM
This isn't really real estate related, well, it is in a way.
When summertime comes, so do ANTS!  This year they seem especially bad, in my house and many others that I have talked with.  Every day my kids eat popsicles and freezie pops and inevitably those little top plastic pieces cut off the freezie pops or the popsicle sticks will miss the trashcan and end up behind or next to it.  Then come the ants.
So today I bought 4 little ant traps - RAID ant bait.  Thought this would be a great idea to get rid of these … (4 comments)

Homes under contract in Bowie, Maryland - 06/08/08 07:13 PM
I was pulling statistics for a seller here in Prince George's County Maryland, specifically in Bowie, zipcode 20715.  We have this gorgeous home on the market for almost a month, originally listed at $499,900 and now down to $429,900.  Only 2 people have seen it since dropping down to $429,900 in the past week.  As I was wondering where the buyers are, I decided to break it down by price.

Most of the buyers are in the $275,000-$349,000 price range - first time buyers!  When you look at all the homes that are in "active" status, yours really needs … (0 comments)

Buyer's Agency - What you need to know - 06/07/08 09:25 AM
If you're a buyer in today's market, you are going to want representation.  Representation means that you have your own agent, working for you.  Everyone can get information about homes on the internet, that part of the business is transparent.  What you need is to have someone who sells homes and represents buyers on a daily basis to "have your back".
Here's a link to another blog about agency that I found interesting:

It's interesting that only 4% of buyers are looking for an agent when they are on the internet, but that is actually an important part of the process.  … (0 comments)

Multiple Offers in this Market? YES! - 06/01/08 03:55 PM
I know the market is supposed to be bad but there are actually still multiple offers coming in on well-priced homes.  We were showing a family a beautiful home over in the Manors Of Crofton neighborhood in Crofton last week.  It had been listed at $569,000 and they decided it was time to sell so they made a dramatic price drop to $499,900.  This was during a weekend when they held an open house and they had a ton of interest, several disclosure requests, and 2 written offers with ESCALATION CLAUSES.  Our clients decided to move on to another home as … (4 comments)
