There is a well known court case. Are you allowed to take videos from a video site such as YouTube and place them on your website? There are two parts to the answer of this question. One is that YouTube has specific terms of service and use that cover state that by uploading a public video you are giving permission for others to embed that video on their websites. Google Inc has settled the class-action lawsuit with the Association of American Publishers and the Authors Guild who represent about 8,000 writers. The class- action law suit claimed that Google violated copyright law by scanning books without the permission of the authors. Google will pay $125 Million dollars as part of the settlement of this lawsuit. The groups have given permission to Google to scan and post out of print books and in print books into the Google Book Search system.
