personal: Thank you for all your prayers! - 09/11/12 12:08 AM
To all our subscribers and activerain members:
Thank you for all your prayers! We certainly believe in the power of prayer. We had a rough few weeks from the flood from Hurricane Isaac to being notified that Abuelo was rushed to the hospital and put in ICU.
Abuelo went through surgery finally and is now in his room in the hospital recovering. Your prayers were felt during this time. He was able to see his grandson and we think that is what helped him get through this.
This is the first time I have been in an ICU unit in the … (9 comments)

personal: Sometimes Life Happens... - 06/15/12 05:45 AM
Transparency is one of the greatest ways for a writer to engage with others especially in the online world. People want to know what is going on with you and your family. They want to know if you need prayers or help with something. You know I am one of the biggest fans of transparency yet in this case- it has actually been the hardest step for me to take.
But also writing can be very healing. It can also help others who may be going through the same thing. So here goes...
Many of my AR friends and subscribers have … (33 comments)

personal: Unplugged- It Worked:) - 11/30/11 04:03 PM
Unplugged- wow, I did not even know if I could go through with it but I did. It was a success. I wrote my Thanksgiving post challenging all my subscribers to unplug at least for Thursday Thanksgiving day. Then I thought, well, it would not be right for everyone to take me up on a challenge that I was not willing to do myself.
So Wednesday at about 1 a.m. I published my last post for the week and unplugged. I did not go back online until Monday morning. WOW- I have not done that since before 2006.

personal: Facebook Is So Much Fun When It Is Your Birthday! - 06/11/11 03:40 PM
Today is my birthday. I spent the day at the baseball fields watching our little guy play on the All Star Team going all the way to the district championships which also started today! So he is on a roll winning all but one game and really winning. Like most games his team is winning by the 10 point rule. Our son is the one on the right with the ball in his glove.
Now, if you follow me on Facebook than you know that Baseball is not my favorite thing to watch or to do or to be a part … (32 comments)

personal: Questions for my Active Rain Friends- - 01/15/11 07:16 AM
OK, so our little guy, 8 yrs old and I are going to see our new grand child, a gorgeous baby girl who was born on October 1st and our eldest son is the father. We are going to a very cold part of Canada in Regina.
Our little guy is the only one in our family who has never seen or lived in snow. I just found out the it is 30 degrees BELOW ZERO!!!!!!! Where we are going!!!!!!
My son just told our little one how they don't even allow their children to go play in the snow when … (24 comments)

personal: When Time Flies By and Other Things.... - 11/12/10 12:56 PM
WOW, it seems like each year the time goes by faster and faster. I was just sitting here realizing that Thanksgiving is just around the corner and then Christmas. Where did the year go?
I also have been absent from blogging this past week or so because well, time is just flying by and there are some things I had to attend to that were more important than even blogging!  WHAT???? Did I just write that? And it certainly is not for a lack of what to write- I never run out of things to write about:)  Our last one … (16 comments)

personal: Reaching Beyond The Borders For News and Current Events- Disturbing Trends - 10/02/10 05:49 PM
One of the many things my mother taught me was to do research on topics, politics and issues. She told me many years ago, way before the internet and before cell phones and way before computers were available to regular households- to get a variety or sources, examine all of them, establish the facts and then form my opinions.  Since my mother went to Stanford University and was a Phi Beta Kapa along with receiving her PHD there I had an entire campus at my disposal. The Hoover Tower at Stanford was full of great information from many different sources. Back … (25 comments)

personal: Tear Down That Wall- A Day Imprinted In My Mind Forever - 11/10/09 09:32 AM
The day the wall came down in Berlin was a day that I will never forget. My brother was in Germany for the historic event and as the wall starting being torn apart piece by piece he was on the phone with me. This was before youtube, before Iphones and Ipods, before the typical cell phones we have today. But he had access to a phone near the wall and I was able to be there in spirit and an earshot to this event. Why would this event be so important to us? Memories flood my mind as I think back … (67 comments)

personal: Family Times- Sharing Time! - 11/08/09 11:34 AM

I wrote this post announcing our Trunk or Treat that we hold annually in our church parking lot. We had a great turn out! Each year we have such fun and now that our son and our grand children are getting just a tad bit older it is becoming even more fun.
We must have had at least 300 children show up for the Trunk or Treat and they all got to go around the cars trick or treating at least 3 times. That really got their buckets and bags filled up with all that candy.
We also … (19 comments)

personal: Just A Note About What Is Up With Us... - 11/02/09 01:48 AM
I only posted 2 posts to our blog last week. I have not gone anywhere and am working to get back into the swing of my routine. Both Nestor and I got sick about 3 weeks ago. We are still quite under the weather. I usually blog very late at night and over the past few weeks I have been falling asleep as I was blogging... not good!
At the same time as us getting sick which BTW- this is the first time we have been sick in several years- we started getting more calls than usual from our expired … (17 comments)

personal: No- I Did Not Quit Blogging! - 10/05/09 03:39 PM
No, I did not quit blogging when I reached my 600,000 point post!
This is the first time I have ever since joining Active Rain been away this long and not blogged or made comments! No matter how busy we get in negotiating short sales, taking listings or building the business I make time to blog because it is a part, a big part, of our business plan. ( I had a clip art piece for right here- but I am getting the error message when adding an image here.)
We took a little detour! A renewing, exciting detour that came … (48 comments)

personal: 600000 Points- Next Stop- 1 Million Point Goal! - 09/30/09 03:43 PM
600000 Points- Next Stop- 1 Million Point Goal! When I went to sleep the other night I had 599,700 or so points. When I woke up the next morning I had an email from Jon Zolsky congratulating me on my 600,000 points. How exciting is that! Very exciting! Can you tell I love points? My favorite saying is;
Points are the Genius of Active Rain! And to think that Jonathan Washburn woke up in the middle of the night calling Bob Stewart with his brilliant idea he had just dreamed up- POINTS for the gas to ramp of the engine … (53 comments)

personal: Leaving A Legacy- Honoring My Grandfather- George Edward Mullen - 09/29/09 01:03 PM
Leaving A Legacy- Honoring My Grandfather-George Edward Mullen.
My grandfather George Edward Mullen was born in Reno Nevada on December 24-1913 and passed away on July 23-2009. He was 95 1/2 years old. He was the oldest of 14 children, 8 of his sisters and one brother are still living. He has 6 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. Family reunions were quite the event in our family on the Mullen side.
His life was so remarkable and he was my best role model that the least he deserves from me is a tribute post.

He was married to my … (23 comments)

personal: When Technology is NOT ALL THAT! - 07/28/09 09:29 AM
OK, so we have been through the mill these last few days! And techonology was the root to all our ills and frustrations! This was one of those days when you yearn for simpler days. The days of no fax machines, no cell phones, no internet. Of course most of you are too young to remember those days and the average college student does not even know what a music album or an 8 track is.
We woke up to NO internet!  I am not the morning person so Nestor softly and gently woke me up to tell me that we … (23 comments)

personal: Your Journey Depends On You. - 05/14/09 03:09 PM
It took a long time for me to stop playing the role of victim. It takes a lot to do that when you are stuck in all that 'stuff'. It is always easier to have someone to blame for our perceived misery and circumstance in life. Staying in that role was what I had learned and it was safe no matter how dangerous it really was. It was like a crutch so I did not have to face the person in the mirror.
One day when I started to forgive myself and made a promise to move out of that … (27 comments)

personal: Look Who Came To Visit! - 05/07/09 05:11 AM
Knock, Knock! Who is there? Ah, just one of your friendly neighborhood residents seeing if you have anything good to eat! Here in Wellington Florida we get a lot of visitors:)
Our son calls me to the front door, "Mommy, we have a visitor!"
Such simple things in life yet so intricate in nature. Evidence of God's hand in all things living on this wonderful planet we call earth.
Our son says, " Take a picture!" So I did and then we took a turn in our lessons for the day. This is a teaching moment in science, nature and … (9 comments)

personal: Belated Passover and Easter Thoughts... - 04/14/09 05:36 PM
I intended on writing about my thoughts on Passover and Easter but the thing I hate most in life; paying taxes, reared it's ugly head this week and as soon as Easter's sundown appeared I was involuntarily immersed into the bitter reality of wasting days of my life to organize all of my unorganized paperwork in order to complete the process of paying taxes. I am still working on them but I snuck away to write this post and comment on some blogs. We are going to the Tea Party so I am going to stay up until I am finished. … (15 comments)

personal: Babies Grow Up So Fast! Grandparent and Parent Update! - 03/27/09 03:18 PM
It has been a while since I posted about my son and grandchildren. The babies grow up so fast. My son is finally accepting that these babes are his niece and nephew and that he is an uncle. He had a hard time with that. He was thinking more in the lines of brother and sister because of the age, yet he knew that was not the case since the babies did not live in 'mommy's belly' but rather his sisters' bellies.
Milet's baby girl is just growing like a weed. She is starting to potty train herself at 16 months … (19 comments)

personal: The Day After Thanksgiving... - 12/16/08 02:33 PM
It has been a family tradition since coming to America to pick out our Christmas Tree the day after Thanksgiving.
Now we have a  set appointment with Home Depot each year in South Florida since 1995. As soon as November arrives I get excited about getting our tree.

I have lived in many different places and countries from Hawaii to Utah to Europe and so have experienced many different traditions of getting our Christmas Tree. When I lived in Hawaii, I would get my tree from this one grocery store each year. In Utah we would go to these Tree … (36 comments)

personal: What A Pleasant Surprise On Sunday- Meeting Mitt Romney! - 10/13/08 03:22 PM
We are sitting in church on Sunday during our Sacrament meeting and our Bishop is conducting the meeting. I am busy getting our son and his friend settled in to do their quiet activities when I hear the words, " Mitt Romney and his wife Ann are visiting with us today."
I thought about it for a moment and then said to myself, "No, he must have said something else and I misunderstood." But then later in our meeting the bishop said that Mitt Romney would come up to bear his testimony and say a few words.
It really was him! … (47 comments)
