If you went almost to the end of Birch Bay Lynden Road, right before you get to the Birch Bay Water Slides, you will turn left and drive to the entrance of the Sea Links Gated Community - Birch Bay Washington.

Okay, So What Is Blaine, WA All About

I get asked the question all time: what's so great about Whatcom County and Blaine, in particular. Okay, that's a fair question, considering we only have one stop light, you can walk in to almost any of the County and or City offices and talk to a person that you may actually know. As you look at the Blaine Marina picture, you can see the Peace Arch Border Crossing and the trees off in the distance ia where White Rock, Canada is located.

Blaine is a lovely, quiet town and so far, since moving here, there have been no drive by shootings. Don't really know about the rest of the stuff that Denver, Phoenix, LA, or the Detroit news stations report on for their evening news every night.

However, you never know when the big city is going to catch up with you.

Small Town Atmosphere, Big Town Cuisine

We are able to buy some of the freshest fish and seafood available-you can purchase right from the Blaine Marina or travel a short distance to Barleans Sea Food and purchase some of the best that is currently in season-and they actually ask you how you are doing, thank you for your business, and even share recipes .

Two weeks ago, we left Bellingham Bay on a friend's boat, caught about 20 crabs, cooked them on board the boat and had an evening dinner while floating on the Pacific. In total, about a five hour evening. Try and do that in Phoenix. You might be able to, if the dust storm has died down a little.

International Scene

When you want the international scene, drive across the border to White Rock, Canada, Vancouver, Surrey, BC. Richmond offers authentic Chinese restaurants, while Surrey has Middle Eastern restaurants that make you glad you live in the great northwest.

Want to head to the south to Bellingham, home of Western Washington University? Take the day and check out Bellingham, Whatcom Falls, Lake Whatcom and Boulevard Park. Boulevard Park has a great boardwalk and one of the best cups of coffee at 'Woods Coffee'. Get a cup and grab a seat outside and watch the sun set on Bellingham Bay. A remarkable experience, with great coffee.

What's In Blaine?

For a small town Blaine, WA is pretty important. We have two, yes, that is two major border crossings in our town. Blaine has what is named the Peace Arch Crossing and the Blaine Truck Crossing Some great restaurants like Paso Del Norte, Chada Thai, Big Al's, The Black Forest, owned by Jack Neiman, of Jack Neiman fame, and a couple of quaint pastry & sandwich shops...The Little Red Caboose and The Blackberry House. We have the regualr franchises like Subway, Burger King and Little Caesars Pizza. Okay, you probably get the idea.

We're a regular type town...like no other.

The Best Of Blaine

I was walking out of an office and saw these boys on their way to go fishing. Don't know who the boys are, and haven't seen them since. I had to pull over to the side of the road and pull out my video cam. They looked excited to be on their way for a good day of fishing!

That was a lot of chat, and here is what I wanted to show about Blaine, WA. I think this video shows the relaxed atmosphere of Blaine. This video was taken on the Blaine Marina road leading to down tot he dock that you see pictured above. Wouldn't you like to be doing the same thing-ridding a bike, going fishing!

Friday Evening, Sundown On the West Side Of Semiahmoo, WA

On September 7^th, (Friday evening) we decided to go down to the water and watch the sun go down over Semiahmoo Bay, Drayton Harbor and I snapped a few pictures and took a fast video.

Where we placed our chairs, on the west side of the Semiahmoo Spit, about a half mile from the Semiahmoo Resort.

This location is where the spit begins and actually narrows to about thirty to forty yards wide until you get to the Semiahmoo Resort. On the west side you have the open water and the San Juan Islands, on the east side you have Drayton Harbor.

The picture is looking down the beach to the south. If you were to continue down and around the beach, you would be at Birch Bay.

Never heard of Semiahmoo, WA

Semiahmoo is one of the secrets of the northwest coast as a seaside resort community. Located on the northern Puget Sound shoreline in Blaine WA overlooking Semiahmoo Bay and Drayton Harbor.

Vancouver, BC is less than an hour's drive away - Seattle is a two hour drive from Semiahmoo. The community was designed and built by the same group that developed renowned communities such as Kiawah Island, Snowmass, Sea Pines Plantation, Callawassie Island and others.

Video Watching The Sundown Over Semiahmoo Bay And The San Juan Islands

I tried to hold the video camera as still as I could. Considering where I was standing, it isn’t too bad. The video starts off looking at the beach to the south. No, I didn’t chat it up, just the sounds of the waves hitting the beach.

If you continued hiking down the beach, you would end up at Birch Bay.

The video then pans to the west looking at the San Juan’s, sorry about the shot of bright eye from the setting sun. I continued to the north where you can see White Rock, Canada.

Kind of amazing when you think about how many people are on the beach at White Rock and how few are on the this beach. No, I didn’t ask the people to move out of the path of the video. If you continued on the water to the east, you would enter Drayton Harbor, the Blaine Marina and the Semiahmoo Marina.

Video then moves back to catch the last glimpses of the sun setting over the San Juan’s. Couldn’t have asked for more beautiful evening, temperature was about 77 degrees. It was incredible how fast the sun actually vanished beyond the horizon and the bright orange glow that cotinued for about forty-minutes.

Hope you enjoyed viewing the pictures and watching the video as much as we did. The evening was a coolish warm, just the perfect temperature to have on a hoodie. Oh, by the way, you can actually have your own fire on the beach.

Smores and hot dogs roasted over a beach fire (in a fire ring, of course) just naturally taste better:)
