Quote of the Day - Saturday - 03/28/09 09:24 PM
Let others lead small lives, but not you. Let others argue over small things, but not you. Let others cry over small hurts, but not you. Let others leave their future in someone else's hands, but not you.
-Jim Rohn
This is one of the most powerful  quotes that I've read in a long time.  What will you do this week to live a large live?  What will you do to take charge of your own future?

A Sneak Peak at Obama's Toxic Asset Plan - 03/21/09 11:54 PM
Obama's Toxic Asset Plan will be revealed early next week.  Details are beginning to leak and it looks like it has potential to benefit the very people that put us into this mess to begin with.  Obviously it's too early to know as complete details haven't been released.  Here are the details being "leaked":
The Plan is designed to buy as much as One Trillion in Troubled Security Backed Assets for the purpose of getting money flowing through our economy again.  It's a three pronged plan as follows:
The FDIC will create special-purpose investment partnerships.  The FDIC will lend approximately 85 percent of … (4 comments)

The Real Reason Loan Mods and Short Sales Take So Long.... - 03/21/09 03:25 AM
As I delve deeper and deeper into the world of Loan Modifications I'm uncovering answers to many commonly asked questions here on Active Rain.
I've written and read many blog posts that express confusion over the inconsistent manner in which loan modifications and short sales get approved.  What is simple common sense to you and I takes on a whole new light once we get behind the scenes of loan servicing.
Common questions include:
Why don't banks just modify loans across the board? Why does it take so long to get answers? Why does one homeowner get an easy loan modification while … (18 comments)

Two Redding Eagles have Hatched This Week - One To Go - 03/20/09 02:37 AM
Reddings resident Eagles have hatched two of the three eggs that were laid this winter.  Our eagles, Patiot and Liberty, became celebrities when CalTrans tried to move their nest in 2007 by putting a giant cone over it.
Public outcry saved the nest and we now have our Live Eagle Cam to watch during Daylight hours.
Eagle One, which was laid on February 6th, hatched on March 17th
Eagle Two, which was laid on February 9th, hatched today March 19th.
The third egg was laid on February 13th is still being incubated by the eagles.  Watch when mom and dad take off out of the … (6 comments)

Spring Break will be upon us before we know it.  Here in Redding, most schools take Spring Break from April 13th to the 17th.
I thought I'd take some time to find out activities for the kids during break.  Here goes:
Redding Parks and Recreation:
Spring Break Activities include a 5 day camp for 6 - 12 year olds at the Enterprise Community Room.  There is also a Little Bunnies Workshop and plenty of sports activities planned for the kids.
Whiskey Town Enviornmental Camp (AKA WES Camp) is offering a Spring Break in the Wild Camp.  Four and Five day camps … (0 comments)

Are the AIG Bonus Payments Just A Smoke Screen? - 03/18/09 01:29 AM
The media has Americans all worked up over Bonus Payments AIG recently made to it's executives.  It seems odd to me that information on these bonus payments was released a few days before AIG released a more important report....a report that showed where the $90 billion bailout given to AIG went.
On Sunday, a slow news day, AIG released a report telling us that nearly $30 Billion dollars of AIG bailout money went to European Banks.  $30 BILLION DOLLARS of our taxpayer money did not get put back into our economy.
Granted $165 Million dollars in bonuses is a travesty.  Isn't it funny … (8 comments)

Failing to Plan means Planning To Fail - 03/16/09 01:19 AM
It's Sunday night and I've decided to start planning my week on a regular basis.  I used to do this religiously but fell off the wagon.
I pulled up this wonderful little tool that I used to use.  It's called Simpleology and was created by Mark Joyner.  It's one of those tools that, when used, really help you get your life focused.  The best part is that it's totally free.
I've set my short term, medium term and long term goals and have my action items for the week all planned.
Given all the negative stuff going on around us, I … (5 comments)

The High Risk of Government Loans - 03/13/09 02:46 AM
There are some that believe that the future of mortgages will be government funded loans modeled after student loans. The majority of student loans issued today are Federally funded loans underwritten or administered by private sector financial institutions.
I don't think that most people are aware of the high personal risk involved in taking out a government funded loan.
Except in very rare instances, Student Loans are nearly impossible to discharge in bankruptcy and if you suffer a financial hardship, you can't negotiate or settle the debt for less than is owed.  They stay with you forever.
This week alone, I have had two different … (2 comments)

What if Real Estate Doesn't Come Back? - 03/07/09 11:59 PM

Have you ever wondered what would happen if Real Estate doesn't come back?  What if housing stays upside down for a prolonged period of time?

Depending on which report that you read, it's estimated that anywhere fom 1 in 5 to 1 in 8 homeowners have mortgages larger than the the value of the home.    All of us know that someday Real Estte will rise from the ashes like a Phoenix.  Buyers will move back into the market, foreclosures will mostly be a thing of the past, lending will stabilize and the market will normalize.
It is entirely feasible that millions … (5 comments)

Is it Financial Hardship or a Cash Flow Problem?? - 03/05/09 07:46 PM
The current economy has thrown millions of Americans into a cash flow nightmare.  As credit card bills pile up and mortgages fall behind, each day more and more Americans are faced with choosing between putting food on the table or pay the mortgage or credit card bills.
One of the criteria for getting relief is having a valid financial hardship SO -
What constitutes a financial hardship?
Simply put, a financial hardship is a life event that significantly lowers income OR increases expenses to the point that minimum payments cannot be maintained.
Examples of Reduced Income Hardship include:
due to change of employment … (2 comments)
